Resolution. I took the car into Bill Jacobs BMW (Naperville, IL) on Monday. By Friday it was finished. They replaced the head under warranty because it was a continuation of an earlier problem and it was documented with a video. My service rep is Ryan Burton. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great guy to deal with (not a BSer). The dealership has earned my respect. So far no knocking. The bill was $5,400 but when I got to the amount owed it was $0.00.
@Wildman2291 I took mine in to Bill Jacobs BMW last summer and they replaced the lifters. That did not do anything. I am hoping that this time they will replace the head. I took it in yesterday (Monday 4/18/2011) and I haven't heard anything from them yet. Since it doesn't make any noise once the car is driven for a while, the guys on the forums recommended a video. I'll keep you posted.
My dealer told me it was normal. I'm bringing it back in to them to get this fixed.

@BerylTopaz yeah, i just took it to BMW OF SEATTLE, and they took care of it pretty fast.
