Such propaganda! They say he hated vietnamese people, yet they forget to mention his friend, Jacque Vèrges is Vietnamese. They don't mention how many people who died from the U.S bombings, blockage of the country's import, such as FOOD!
So, many of the deaths were unintentional, caused by America's holy war.
Yes, some people were tortured, but guess what. People are being tortured on Guatanamo bay too.
No country has ever been bombed so hard as Cambodia.
Most of those mass graves are mostly corpses from the bombing and famine, caused by the war USA insisted to lead against communism. The people who fear commnunism are very rich.
So, why are you against communism when you're not rich and does not own a huge company? Just because some people pushed mass propaganda on you through television? You are too stupid to comprehend what cambodia, or what Pol Pot tried to do.
@Cybor88 ..... uhm.. actually one country has been bombed more than Cambodia. That country is Laos. But yeah, same scenario (US bombing). No thorough planning or strategy for entering and exiting the Vietnam War was established by the US Gov (just like the Iraq War), big mistake. This fact, along with Vietnam efforts to invade Cambodia both demonstrate that Pol Pot is not solely to blame for everything. There are probably a few other factors (Khmer Rouge internal politics, Palace's role, etc.)
i agree with many of the comments, and I absolutely take this seriously, but I just wanted to point out that...lol that nuon chea is wearing sunglasses?? he has to look good for his interview?!
He was a criminal and a Maoist rascist. His ''communism'' was not what Marx and Lenin wanted. He build a rascist state, only for the Khmer people. His totalitariansism was so high, that Vietnam had to end it.
But the west did not liked that. They supported Pol Pot for many years. Mrs Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, both gave support to Pol Pot against he new People's Republic of Kampuchea.
Sorry, but communism as ideology isn't entirely criminal. Unfortunately, it was massively put that way into practice - by humans. Any ideology is horrifying when it reaches extreme levels of abuse and manipulation (read: totalitarianism).
That way you put it, 'democracy' is just as equally a weakness - even worse, it is more and more irrelevant and illusive. Look at the world we live in now. Did anything change for the better? Personally, I don't blame 'communism', I blame human arrogance.
@Crijevo Look at how many nations that have tried to implement communism. The rate of failure is overwhelming. Now, that tells me there is something inherently wrong with the ideology. Like it or not, it breeds extremism and intolerance in people. I've known so many communists who frown at anyone who thinks differently from themselves.
Now, democracy isn't perfect, but at least I am allowed to criticise my country's worthless government without being put into a concentration camp for it.
You gotta love the communists. Everytime they come into power thousands if not millions of people end up murdered. But whenever I have spoken to one they ALWAYS say "We'll get it right next time". That's exactly what Pol Pot said. Communism is the most evil ideology ever invented by man.
@63gstone Exactly. How many people must die in their attempt to get their 'experiment' right? How many people must pay the price of their mad illusions? How many times must communism fail before they realise there is something inherently flawed with the ideology?
What I find truly frightening is that there are still people out there who think communism is a splendid idea. It is interesting how ideologies that want to achieve a so-called 'utopia', like fascism and communism, ultimately are the ones that lead to the most suffering.
Communism is a false promise of the future, and a perfect example of why the end does not justify the means.
'But that wasn't REAL communism' is a poor argument when millions lie dead in several countries that have adopted it.
I wonder if Pol Pot had Swiss Bank accounts. Can anyone confirm this? Did he ever live in a luxury home? For being such a powerful man he lived in a shithole.

It was funny that one man with emotion of hatred and nationalism running high could bring so much miseries and suffering to so many people. Moreover he was supported by both Communist China and the U.S. History has repeated itself in Rwanda. God must be crazy!
That is a complete lie that the US supported Pol Pot. We supported the Monarchist and Republican groups that opposed the Vietnamese invasion. These groups in turn were willing to ally with the Khmer Rouge despite their differences with him in order to expel the Vietnamese.
The Vietnamese had been the group that allied with and armed the Khmer Rounge in the first place. The Vietnamese who were in their own country just as brutal only invaded Cambodia because some Vietnamese refugees were felling across the border. As for recognizing them, they already had a seat on the UN and so we simply refused to recognize the new Vietnamese puppet dictatorship therefore the Khmer Rounge was still listed as the Government of Cambodia.
They did this because they were in conflict with the Soviet Union for control of the international Communist movement. Vietnam was an ally of Moscow and hence China felt that the Khmer Rouge would be theirs in Cambodia.
Stalin was certainly a ruthless dictator, but never commited genocide (genocide is when you kill an specific group of people for religious or political reasons)
And his supposed (or real crimes) were largely exaggerated first by Nazi propaganda (Goebbles) and after that for pro Nazi William Hearst, Conquest and Kruschev.
@rainermarius False, Mao never, ever killed 50, or 500 millions like some ignorants say. People died of starvation during Great Leap Forward complete failure (20+ millions), but not were killed, Mao never ordered PLA to go and kill some group of persons like Hitler and Suharto.

Yes. What is necessary is for normally moral people to be passive and think that it is enough to do nothing!!! It is always easy to accuse others of being immoral. It is much more difficult and actually risky to stand up for morality and DO something to implement a better and more moral society. Even though there is not much to learn from tyrans such as Pol Pot, one thing one could learn is how active they were.
Cambodians, you thave to assume the responsibility of having accepted a tyran as a leader. Why don't you discuss the issue as have Germans with their terrible deeds in WW2. They are not saying it were the Swiss who did this and that and the Austrians who did this and that... No they assumed responsibility. And maybe Cambodians can then also think about how society should evolve to prevent such an atrocity in the futuref. Should you maybe stop admiring tyrans and increase quality of education?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Did Pol Pot killed 2 millions? I doubt it, first than all Cambodia was destroyed after USA bombings and Lon Nol genocide dictatorship, starvation and epidemics were killing too much people before, during and after Kmer Rouge took power . . .
Pol Pot wanted to avoid a coup d´etat like Indonesia 1965 were more than 1 million PKI members were killed in one year, so he acted with extreme violence, but he didn´t kill 2 millions
I think that those 'big' destroyers are from God, if you can understand what I mean. As I know Hitler (as well as Pol Pot and maybe others) had a charisma that let them do those crimes against a vast number of people. It seems to me that they were born to play their role. Everyone who was near them (either Hitler or Pol Pot) considered them as gods...
You are wrong. Some people are just lunatics or completely indocrtinated by wrong ideas, coming to power due to consequences of fatal wrong turns of geopolitics.

I wish they used both so they can understand how it is to be loved even when you die!
I am happily playing with my brothers and sisters but to think that during those time, there is this girl named Kimni crying for hunger, pain, wound. Her parents both died and she doesn't have any news about her brothers and sister. She only knows one thing at the moment, "she really hate the Khemer Rouge" and she has the right to have this feelings for them because they have stolen from her the best life that she is about to experience with her family while she is growing up.
I met a Cambodian friend named Kimni. She has the same age with me. She showed me her scars, some gun shot, some by knife which according to her is done by Khemer Rouge. She is just 8 years old at the time. She said, she even tried eating a meat of death people especially their heart and lung. Her story made me cry because when I was just about the same age like her, I am happily living with my family not knowing that there are children suffering in the other side of the world.
I am from the Philippines and when I got the chance to work in Cambodia, I visit Toul Sleng Museum, and tears really fell on my face. I could not imagine the pain and sufferings of those local people especially the children, babies and the old people. Those Khemer Rouge Officials if we can call them one, really proves of having no balls under their two legs. Killing people that is not convicted of any crime is really a murderous act. They too deserve to die in pain and suffering.
Many pro-communist peace activists make dead wrong argument that millions of Vietnamese would be saved without the Vietnam war given the fact that millions of Vietnamese lost their lives in "re-education" camps and at sea on their journey for freedom after 1975; not mentioning two milliions of Cambodians executed by Khmer Rouge backed by China. In fact, Vietnam war is an ideological war between capitalism and communism like the current Afghanistan war is a war between democracy and terrorism.
There are many Cambodians around the world that consider this evil bastard a hero and go as far as denying the Khmer Rouge committed genocide, preferring to blame Viet Nam for the deaths of the victims of the Khmer Rouge Genocide. This denial is what impedes the recovery process.
Pot pot had a plan to try to make Cambodia a better place, however his tactics were completely unnecessary, inhumane, and brutal. His violent ideas were from France as their country had a violent French Revolution. He thought he was capable to redefine Cambodia by taking the best political ideas from mixture of countries and apply it to Cambodia. HE FAILED. He took lives of innocents love ones, decrease Cambodia's population and let the country having one of the HIGHEST POVERTY in the world!!
Actually he gained the the idea to kill *every* opponent from the works of Stalin and Mao. And Kropotkin's book manifested the idea that he shall press on every idea no matter what happens...
Of course this all wouldn't had happend if there hadn't been no colonialism...
If you find the root of the cause, it's China...China is the root of the cause, they supported Pol Pot for their political influence in region. China is a toxic of the world.
Vietnamese & Chinese & Indian & US & Pakistanis & Russian & Cambodian & Thai beware!.
The AnonymousViet, Vietdodo, Malaysian12346, Pakistanis1234, Indian12346, Creek12346, Vietnamese64321, Egyp12346, etc are a Khmer Rouge dog, a TRG gang member. You are such a low life scum AhmekKhmer ! Using people photo for your nick to stir up racial conflict? You should be depoted back to the killing field cemetery where you are from sir.
This just proves how stupid mankind is. How can you blame everything on one man. Can one man walk the streets and kill one million people NO, Can one man take over a country and lay down the law? If this was the case every country in the world would be taken over every day. I think the guy was a nut job but you also have to take into consideration, PEOPLE ARE FUCKING STUPID. Just look at the yanks, they voted Bush in again. People have to take responsibility as well for these morons.
I am not supporting Pol Pot but Communism has never been practiced properly.
Does Democracy and Liberalism equal killing? No? Well what about the hundreds of thousands of Cambodian PEASANTS who were slaughtered by American air strikes?
Such propaganda! They say he hated vietnamese people, yet they forget to mention his friend, Jacque Vèrges is Vietnamese. They don't mention how many people who died from the U.S bombings, blockage of the country's import, such as FOOD!

In fact, Vietnam war is an ideological war between capitalism and communism like the current Afghanistan war is a war between democracy and terrorism.

purest form of communism... ofc u can do that with 100 peoples left..

Nobody in Cambodia's gonna speak against the Khmer Rouge because today the power in Cambodia is still in hands of ex-Khmer Rouge cadres.

The people are still scared from this regime today... I hope the Cambodian people around the world recover from this.
noobartist 2 years ago

The root was Pol Pot! damn him!
However, it was good that he eliminated the pro-government Khmer Republic. I wouldnt like a country run as a puppet regime.
JZPinoyAguinaldo 2 years ago
If you find the root of the cause, it's China...China is the root of the cause, they supported Pol Pot for their political influence in region. China is a toxic of the world.

Communist idea is only good in books, the real world is unstable. Any government that have to use force to control the country wont last long.
drbun 3 years ago 2
i think practicing communism is unstable...it's not that easy to control people that's why they have to kill cons...

People have to take responsibility as well for these morons.
mozzmanau 3 years ago 2
Not really. If it weren't from the ideaology of one particular individual, a chain reaction of events wouldn't have occur. Take Hitler for example...

binouk20070334 3 years ago 6
Communism does not mean killing you idiot.
The ideology can be practiced without massacres.
I am not supporting Pol Pot but Communism has never been practiced properly.
Does Democracy and Liberalism equal killing? No? Well what about the hundreds of thousands of Cambodian PEASANTS who were slaughtered by American air strikes?
