  • WOOOOOOW

  • Orban György was my composition teacher. Last time I saw him we went on YouTube to look for various versions of this piece. He seemed to want to find the faster version of this- I don't think it's possible to sing it too fast.

  • @rauldougou that's an honor on my end. suppose all i did was record it, though :)

  • wow im praticing this song to try out for All-state choir in Arkansas and this is an awesome version. love it.

  • Too fast bro'.

  • Whoa, the conductor looks like he's actually performing some kind of Satanic ritual!!! :D

  • @gapoc459 if ur talking about how the music sounds dark it will probably surprise you that this song is actually about denying the devil and choosing God over everything.

  • I sang this song my senior year in high school in our Chamber Choir. I believe we sang it a lot faster than this, but the importance of good vowels and diction were strict so it sounded good. I personally think it sounds better faster, but that's just a personal opinion since I sang it that way.

  • I like it, but I lost the Sopranos at some points, the Tenors over-powered everybody, The diction was off and the dynamics just weren't all the way there. It's good but not great. 3/5 Stars.

  • personally, it loses its meaning for me. we sang it just a step slower....

  • BY FAR the best versions I've heard yet. So exciting to listen to! :D

  • dynamics for the win :D

  • this is my favorite rendition of this piece i've found by far. dynamics are incredible.

  • LOVE this song. We're learnig it in madrigals at my school right now. EPIC.

  • we just sang this tonight for district choir. They go so fast its awesome! we didnt go wuite that fast but we sped up in the end also. AAH its so cool!

  • My choir did it in 54 seconds. Just sayin'.

  • @Knightrider4611 Faster =/= better.

  • This is like the best version of the song I heard so far. Their dynamics are off the chain mann!

  • @InUyAsHaGlitchCity you sure? What the F*ck... i totally disagree with you that this is the best version! The tenors sound GAY and the diction, harmony, tempo and dynamics were a total DISASTER! I'm sorry but sometimes, the truth hurts... Anyway, if you have time, you can check Philippine Madrigal Singers' version of this song... by that, perhaps, you can change your perception that this is the BEST. Happy listening! LOL

  • @fwankleen Ew, really? Check yourself.

  • @fwankleen Ew, really? Check yourself.

  • @fwankleen ew, really? check yourself.

  • I like the part where they said Daemon.

  • And is that Mr. Cremeans conducting?

  • @DarkAngel4565 yeah thats him

  • Purple Aires performed this song at the Fall Dinner Show last night.

    It was incredible!

so was Sounds and Premiers doing Africa.

I love all of the choirs and Ben Davis. :)

  • @DarkAngel4565 i loved doing africa

  • Region 26 Texas. I'm nervous excited

  • No actually this isnt too fast this is the exact tempo that it is written to be sang as. I learned this in choir camp this year and i will be auditioning for it in district . If people in texas make it to state level you will be learning a russian piece i have all the audition music they are all beautiful pieces but most are not english and require good breath control and knowing how to count

  • @RptSwimTeamChick Have you done pre area auditions yet? im doing them next week. Im so nervous but im so ready for the Other songs. i love them!!

  • @RptSwimTeamChick thats funny!! im in texas and auditioned this for district and did it at the region 17 region concert. what a coincidence.

  • @RptSwimTeamChick no it's not... you want to hear the RIGHT rendition of this song? try to listen to the version of Philippine Madrigal Singers and you'll probably realize that this one is a piece of crap.

  • @RptSwimTeamChick No, I’m sorry, this isn’t the correct tempo. It doesn’t even sound good this fast. "the exact tempo that it is written to be sang as” The sheet music says “Allegro” not a specific tempo, so a choral director has some room to change it. Even though your director had that room, it doesn’t seem like he “hit the money"

  • @RptSwimTeamChick I was in Choir camp too and I had to learn it in a week. I also have the recording- It isn't this fast.

  • ....Im doing this song to try out for Region Choir....-gulp-

  • @AMMindfreaksisters Me, too!!

  • @bigw2012 Are you from Texas?! O.O

  • @AMMindfreaksisters I am!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bigw2012 That's awesome!!!! So am I!!!

  • Way too fast!

  • @hanfan26 sounds better

  • @hanfan26 yeah thats is a little to fast i have the same director and he never takes it that fast

  • awesome performance!!!! incredible sound, so mature! our choir has gone against you guys in the past, great job!

  • VERY VERY AMAZING.

    Best I've ever heard.

  • thats like way fast!

  • we sang this when I was in high school. this was AMAZING...

  • holy damn that was SO pro LOL

  • Normally I would absolutely HATE you guys' surprise accelerando at the end, but I liked the tempo and dynamics of what came before so much that I felt that it fit rather perfectly. Great call on your director's part. He also appeared to be having a great time conducting :) Well done, maybe the best version on YouTube.

  • That was BRILLIANT! Lovedddd it!

  • wow waaay faster than when i did it lol

  • Dude way way tooooooooo fast

  • There is no such thing as too fast with this song. It was written to be sung as a competition to see who could sing it the fastest.

  • @BassoonChoirGenius Big difference between speed and sounding like shit

  • Stupid YT wouldn't let me post all in one go, or even add the words "Lyrics:".

It's from György Orbán BTW, who has only a page on Vikipedio, someone should write an English Wikipedia page.

Nothing wrong with the speed, it's contemporary music, even if the secular text is from some Medieval Goliard à la Carl Orff (not Boris!). Compare with the speed of Carmina Burana's 'Veni, Venim, Venias' or 'Tempus Est Iocundum'.

  • Part II:

    However appealing the Flesh is,

It is still worth less than the heart of Jesus.

    Though the Universe may confer

    Thousands upon thousands of praises,

They neither fulfill nor put out the desire of the heart.

However appealing the whole Universe is,

It is still worth less than the heart of Jesus.

  • Translation part I:

    The Devil speaks expertly,

    Tempting the honorable heart;

He sets forth trickery amidst praise, song, and dance.

    However appealing the Devil is,

It is still worth less than the heart of Jesus.

    The Flesh is tempted by sensuality;

    Gluttony clings to our senses;

It overgrows, it encroaches, it stretches.

  • Daemon irrepit callidus, Allicit cor honoribus, Ponit fraudes inter laudes, cantus, saltus. Quidquid amabile Daemon dat, Cor Jesu minus aestimat. Caro venatur sensibus; Sensus adhaeret dapibus; Inescatur, impinguatur, dilatatur. Quidquid amabile Caro dat, Cor Jesu minus aestimat. Adde mundorum milia, Mille millena gaudia; Cordis aestum non explebunt, non arcebunt. Quidquid amabile Totum dat, Cor Jesu minus aestimat.
  • i like it fast hahaha

  • I have already performed this song and read the translation. And even with the translation the last second speed up does not make sense.

  • waaay tooo fucking fast!!!!!!!!!

  • What was up with the weird speed up at the last second of the song..... I don't see the point behind it.

  • @griffenmforever look up the translation and you will understand.

  • too fast...

  • @eagleclass11 LMAO!

  • thats fast we sang this song fast too

  • this is amazing! we are singing this at my school and we haven't sung it nearly that fast. but we are still doing dynamics and what not so maybe we can get it that fast, who knows...

  • Comment removed

  • " In the home country of the composer they have competitions to see who can preform it the fastest" - can you name 1 of these competitions, please? I am from the "home country", but have not heard of any...

  • Comment removed

  • the speed IS appropriate. it helps in portraying the meaning behind the text. as for the parts, well, its more of a personal thing

  • wooooaah fast. too fast

  • it's sposed to be fast, dumb face.

  • idk why the too fast comments are getting thumbs down. I mean, yeah the speed it's sang at is a matter of interpretation but my only real beef and it's not really that much of one but it's hard to hear some of the parts. Then again that could be due to the camera

  • way way too fast!

  • amazing diction and great dynamics. we're doing this right now in my chorus and im pretty pumped :) good job guys!

  • @dgirl1992 so am i! jefferson chamber choir! cant wait to perform this at competition at the end of this month!

  • Good diction for the speed. Still not the greatest.

  • i', just learning this in polyphonic mixed choir...it's insane!! I love it!

Our County all state choir sang this and they decided to experiment...they did the song in 55 seconds

  • SO GOOD. I've been looking for a god version all over youtube and this is definitely the best! consonants sound wonderful I love the Q/C words, and I love the pace!

  • okay they tore it up from 0:55 on.

did this song 2 years ago, lots of fun :D

  • my choir just did this, i loved it

  • I'm singing this in honors choir. it is hell.

  • are you in the calfornia central regional honor choir?

  • I thought it was amazingly fun... :P I'm in central...

  • Haha this is ridiculously fast!! lol they sound like robots... but amazing exicution considering how fast it is.

  • ITS FAIRLY EASY BESIDES THE OFF BEAT SHIT BUT ITS A REALLY FUN SONG I GO TO SHEPARD WERE doing this song its so much fun

  • Im singing this in my chorus and its not that fast.

  • a little too fast but......the end ahhhhhhhhhhhh

  • A little? I'm singing this is my choir. It is HELL

  • Their tempo is too fast for the song to emote what it is trying to emote. Since it is too fast they are sacrificing some quality enunciation and clarity. It should be done about 140 bpm. And why is it hell? it is not that hard to sing, and i found it to be really fun. you have to enjoy your music to sing it well. :)

  • I know what you are saying. But I think that the song is going reallly fast and it's hard to get the words.

  • You guys seems to have the same kind of "uniforms" we do. =) The Anacortes High School choir.

  • SO SO AMAZING

    i love the tempo

i hope my choir takes it this fast

  • I noticed people are putting thumbs-down on the people who are just saying that they don't like it. Just because they give a critique doesn't mean that their opinion isn't worth it!!! THIS IS NOT PERFECT. There is NO perfect performances, and this is definately not one. I think the tempo is just slightly too high, maybe about 20 BPM too much for me. Also, I agree with melanie about the "Fraudus" thing. Other than those, VERY well done, 5/5 stars DEFINATELY. AMAZING performance ^-^.

  • kick ass diction

  • AWESOME haha. Best I've heard on youtube of this song. That's how you approach this song, with intensity! Rushed the end just a liiiitle bit but hey you were amped up so I understand how that goes haha. Bueno

  • Very crisp ! great diction and you knew just where your cut offs were...in this song it is easy to have "lingerers" great job !!!

  • awesome!!

  • at first i thought it was too fast, but it was so well done! Perfect dynamics and accents. Wonderful!

  • Watch 'fraudus'. Make sure It doesn't turn into "frow-dus". Also, keep a consistent tempo; the end sped up far too fast. Watch your vowels and keep them nice and long instead of wide and bright. Other than that, well done.

  • great accidents!

  • too fast. I lost the chilling effect of the piece because it all became to similar at that tempo

  • I disagree with all the "too fast" comments. That's much closer to the speed Orban wanted, and lends a great excitement to the piece. It did seem a tad too fast for the group to be entirely comfortable with, but that would just improve with a tad bit more rehearsal, I think. My biggest critique of the piece is it was a little TOO hard, especially in the very beginning. The group accented every single note so harshly,

  • Sorry, I cut myself off by accident. I fail at life. To continue ...

... so harshly that there was no contrast.

Overall, I really liked this interpretation. One of my personal favourites.

  • good job for a very difficult piece. the notes and rythyms in this are quite odd. pretty good job; tenors were a little pitchy and it was noticeable that people were getting lost and out of place during the "mille"s throughout the end..

  • Omg, that gave me chills!

You guys are so damn good!

    Ugh.

  • Yay Cremeans!!!

I'm so happy he combined Premiers with Purple-Aires this year...

I was in love with Dies Irae and I got to sing it! Agh!

Hopefully i'll be in both for next year!

  • A bit fast, but good.

  • There is a fine line between too fast and too slow..

This is way too fast. It sounds extremely rushed and out of control..

    sounds good though.

  • why does your director think it is pretty to speed all the songs up?!?!?! gosh it kills me

  • That was wayyyyyy to fast.....

  • You guys have beautfiul diction. LOVE IT!

  • good.....but too fast

  • Wow.........wow. We're nowhere near this good yet, but we're getting there! :D

  • Our new show this year is Dies Irae, Water Night, and Elijah Rock

  • God that was so good and you could hear all the parts so clearly. Great job!!!

  • Funny you should take the Lord's name in vain, especially given what the song is about...

  • Funny that he did take the Lord's name in vain, even if he was giving some nice feedback onto a song saying that Jesus is better than a demon.

  • Yes, that's what was meant by my previous comment. I don't understand the intent of your comment though, whether you were just clarifying for people ignorant of what the song is about or whether you're attempting to patronize me. Just curious :)

  • that is in my favorites

  • WOW! This is reallllllly good! HAHAHA. Favorited. (:

  • Oh my gosh! That was so intense! I loved it. I hope the choir I'm in sounds that great when we sing it!

  • it sounds WAY BETTER fast!!!!!! yay i love this song!! :)

  • i admit the song sounds neat sped up but this is way to fast for this song

  • WOW. We've just started this song in my choir. I hope we can manage to pull something THIS GOOD off. Stunned... 5 stars, for sure.

  • YES! Finally someone who does it fast enough- almost too fast! This was an audition and concert piece for KMEA my sophomore year. It was awesome! I love that song!

  • AWESOME, the best I've seen on YouTube so far, hopefully our choir can do just as well!

  • OMGMGZMGZMGZZM. THAT was so perfect. I loved it.

  • the dynamics are out of this world!!! that was amazing. we just did this song for district chorus yesterday and it wasnt nearly this fast. it was fast but not like that. this is truly amazing. very nice work.

  • If you're talking about PMEA 10 District Chorus, then same for me, haha.

Unless everyone has DC at the same time and someone just happened to sing Daemon.

  • wow ive never heard this so fast! but i LOVE IT

  • wow wow WOW! truly demonic, and i ofcourse mean that in a good way!

way to go! that was an sung with expertise!

  • hey I see me! lol I really miss this!

  • ive listened to this like 290347 times in a row im obsessed

  • You have to have respect for the conductor who is just as into the music as the choir itself.

And alas, a choir who realizes all the quick "daemons" are quick and almost staccato-like.

    5 stars, great job.

  • This was so great. Really is the best version on Youtube.

  • Hand's Down best on Youtube, but as for the way it is to be sung, It sounds the best with a Men's Choir. Just imagine this being sung with a great Men's Choir.

  • Hands down... Best Daemon on Youtube. EXACTLY the way it should be sung.

  • Wow interesting dynamics!

  • Wow! Awesome Performance!!! I miss doing this one!

  • I love this song wit my everythin

  • AWESOME!!!! Their really good! My brother's in the high school chorus and They sang this song a couple days ago! They sounded pretty good too. I hate myself cuz I forgot my camcorder at home! I was going to post it.

  • I love it! I love the speed and then it sped up at the end? OMG! Awesome!

  • i love purple aires. =]

  • u did this song justice.

  • Well done.

  • GREAT JOB PURPLE AIRES!!!

  • It's cool. I love that you're posting all these!

  • It's Purple Aires by the way. =)

  • hahah i'm sorry. i thought i heard brian say royalaires ;)

  • R. Snider sang this last year a tad slower, but with speed came an inhibited diction.

  • DEVIL!!!
