  • spider bro?

  • watched a jumping spider recently eyeing off a daddy long legs which was in its web oscillating so the jumping spider could not get a lock on its target !

1st time I have ever seen that and now understand what they prey on to a better degree....

  • it myst be scary living with these spider around u

  • @XXXXTheNumber13XXXX actually they're not only harmless, they are excellent for insect pests, making them quite company, and are actually not that creepy looking like other spiders. they share a more "Cute" appearance, mostly because of their large eyes lol.

  • i though humans were all turning gay now its spiders turned on by there own reflection

  • I don't care what it's thinking or doing...all i know is its soooo cute!

  • HES LIKE HUG ME HUG MEM

  • I'd love to know the thoughts of all animals so that I could understand their world from their perspective.

  • @ninjatoothpaste You basically can. You just need to know their body language. For example, thats agressive posture that spider's doing, with its two front limbs in the air. It's trying to threaten whatever's in that reflection (Unlike some STUPID people commenting on here, saying it wants a hug or wants to mate.)

  • @jedihunter176 The people saying it wants to mate aren't necessarily stupid, just wrong. And the ones saying it wants a hug are more than likely saying that because they think it's cute - knowingly anthropomorphizing. What I meant though was while it is possible to analyze behavior and discover the purpose of it it can never be the same as knowing the experience from the creature's perspective - just like you can't know what it's like to be drunk without being drunk yourself :)

  • @ninjatoothpaste Well, you can always imagine. I have a pet bluebelly and it's interesting to think what a reptile is thinking...

  • @jedihunter176 That's not a threatening posture by this spider in the video. It was attempting to walk on the glass, but sometimes their feet will not stick. The threatening posture would have a quick snap in it with the spider backing up quickly a little. This is a female jumping spider just being curious. If it had been a mirror in front of the spider, she would go into a defense posture, thinking that the reflection maybe another spider wanting to eat her. I film and handle spiders myself.

  • @Torn80cj

interesting, i find them to be a curious specimen although i'd hate to be caught in their web...

  • @xtragel They actually don't build a web for catching insects. If you were tiny, you just wouldn't want to be in her sight if she was hungry. They pounce on their prey with lightning like speed.

  • hahaha, what a funny spider! I must laugh =D

    and somewhere cute

  • someone should add ninja noises to this. lol

  • @ilikewarhammer. The thing you say about spiders vision being bad is only half the truth. There are spiders who see excellent. Those spiders are more likely spiders who outrun their prey. Can't come up with any names now though :P

  • The one you see here has good vision. I had one.

  • Huntsman spiders and also the titular Jumping spiders.

  • if the world had no jumping spiders flys would croud up more there suuper eficcient hunters

  • lol fake

  • itd be funny if he lifeted all his legs and fall off the pole xD

  • Spider: Hello Handsome!

    Spider:Hello?

    Spider:Oh its a shadow.

    Spider:SHIT!

  • @AmercianGirl14000 It was probably like "Now, walk away like no one saw that..." at the end lol.

    ...

Yay i'm replying to a comment over 2 years old. :D Now I have doubt you'll ever bother to read this lol.

  • how long do jumping spider live

  • @AntiBlast this one in particular is a immature phidippus audax, he's got about 6 months left to live, in optimal circumstances they can live over a year

  • spiders cant see well at all. they wouldnt be able to see a reflection because their eyes can only sense a different spectrum of light. thats why they have loads of hair on them so that they feel around the place

  • Actually, Jumping Spiders have really good vision, but other true spiders and tarantula's do have poor vision. This little guy probably really was seeing his reflection.

  • jumping spiders vision is supurb it can see it's reflection lol

  • Wrong, jumping spiders do see unlike other spicies of spiders. Theres a video here on youtube, the spider was kept inside a glass jar and a moth outside of the jar and he keeps trying to pounce on it.

  • @Hando2: As evidenced by the very (relatively) large eyes, Jumping spiders can see extremely well. They have to, because they're diurnal active hunters.

Also worth noting is their curiosity towards everything, humans in particular, and how "laid-back" they frequently are as a spider.

  • Yup...research suggest that the jumping spider sees as well as the average human with 20/20 vision. When they look up into the night sky they see stars...fascinating how something so small has the same visual acuity of an eye several times it's size (humans).

  • @eyeofbast

Uh-oh... sounds like an idea for a real shrinking machine.

  • @Hando2 god damnit man i hate people like you who try to teach people shit assuming nobody knows anything when you yourself dont know fuck all about spiders. alot of spiders cant see good you have that part right, but this one is a phidippus audax and can probably see better than you

  • They're a strangely intelligent species.

  • most likely female because of the large opisothoma so overall females don't rely on the courtship mating dance if people thought she saw a mate. It might not of even felt threatened from the reflection and was facing your direction.

  • Mine like to do that too when the camera gets up to them. Like to use me as a jungle gym as well. <.<

  • shes dancing on her shadow because she thinks that shadow is in love with her

    soooooo romantic :)

    -_-

  • ha he kept trying to make himself bigger but the shadow followed

  • That's not mating behavior. When a spider feels threatened it raises its front legs up and out wide, to appear bigger and badder.

He was telling his reflection to split or face the consequences. Pretty mighty gesture for such a tiny thing.

    Thanks for posting this BilyJZ

  • Oh, and then was like, "WAAAAIIT! Oh! WHOOOOA, DUDE! nah! I don't swing that way!" *cuz the reflection did the guy dance too LOL!

  • LOL! What a narcissistic spider! He was trying to do the mating dance to his reflection! LOL!

  • Oh I see LOL Ur right hahaha! I was probably drunk when I posted that and had no depth perception :P

  • @Taricus na he was not mating itself those jumping spider are also called fighting spider cause te male often fight when they see another one

  • @thelordofspace wow horrible grammer buddy, and thats a phidippus audax, and i've never heard of somone calling it a "fighting spider" it "fights" because it doesn't make webs, therefore it sneaks up behind its prey and pounces on them. they dont OFTEN fight, they always do, you will never have 2 male jumpers living peacefully

  • somebody catch a jumping spider and teach it jumpstyle >:)

  • imao

  • HAHA xD: i got a good laugh out of your comment superfisto

  • lolz

  • Spider: hm? what?...damn looking good there buddy!! *stars making biceps*

  • Amazing little creature ..

Perhaps, the smartest of all spiders, in-fact, smartest of all arthropods.

  • I wonder what happens when you teach them..?

humans beware, and i agree too. ;D

  • I do the same thing every morning when i look in the mirror.

I'm like WTF?! How'd you get in here? Then I knuckle up and make threatening gestures. This usually lasts about 15 minutes until I realize that it's only me.

  • lol funny!

  • perhaps the footing was too slippery
