They fly great, but the pilots need that wrench turner on the ground, without them the birds do not fly and do all those wonderful stunts. 18 years Army Aviation
I want to become a pilot, but it's too expensive as a civilian. How hard is it to become an army pilot. Also, what are my chances of getting shot down.
Awesome, the last seconds sum it up. I mean inverted, nosedive and airbraking it. I am an old Huey guy myself and still love to watch these babies fly.
eh where are the RAF s and the american are the best armed forces of all time all you have are spetnaz and ud have a good air force if u could afford better chopper than the shitty hind and mi's
russia is well sophisticated. hell they even shot down a F-22 in China. Plus they do have some of the best aircraft. Im not saying america sucks but russia is pretty good, i'd hate to piss off russia anyday.
...seen the Arpias performance during the last 10 years in Colombia´s internal war, made them commit into the program. Today Sikorsky is building the Arpia versión for the US Army which is operative an flies everyday in Irak and Afghanistan. The Australians too jumped in to the bandwagon and are designing their own version with the help of Sikorsky. Lastly, the Israelis decided to convert all their Black Hawk fleet into their own version of the Arpia, an Armed Black Hawk called Battlehawk (TM)
For the upcoming Arpia IV they will sport, Python V Israeli air-to-air missiles and long range Spike anti-tank missiles, also from Israel. The chopper will maintain the 20 mm nose gun, plus a phletora of electronic systems like flir, terrain following radar, laser adquisition, chaft and flares dispensers among other gadgets. All this was implemented to the simple and basic UH-60L airframe coming straight from the Sikorsky factory. The experiment was so succesful that Sikorsky jumped in...
Don´t worry... the Colombians have been strapping anything you can imagine to the Black Hawks, they called it "Arpias", now in their 3rd. versión. They carry the same 20 mm movable nose machine gun as the Apache which is aimed by the pilots mounted helmet eye visor. Also carry free rockets and two fixed gatling guns on the aircraft embrionary wings hard points. Much or less fashionable as a real attack helicopter like the famous tank busting Russian Mi-24.
WOFT is the Warrant Officer Flight Training. ROTC is for Commissioned Officers that go to college. I would suggest being a Warrant Officer because your job will be to fly helicopters, but commissioned officers lead soldiers and then also fly helicopters... meaning that once they reach the rank of captain, their flight hours get seriously diminished.
whats better? WOFT or ROTC. Im going to college next year so im trying to decide. How difficult is it to get accepted for the WOFT program? Are you a college grad yourself?
What are those Spikey projections from the little bird. (I must say, not a fan of war at all, but that's the baddest assed looking heli on this whole video)
@ThirdWorldHorn In the event the blades don't strike the cables, the cutters are there to cut them... They actually do work... Not necessarily all the time though, for obvious reasons.
no, they measure your seated height and there is no upper limit. you can be too short though. you have to be able to reach across the cockpit to the switches on the upper console.
The helicopter is definitely a lethal weapon on todays battlefield. If I was in the field I would take great comfort in knowing I had a pair of longbows backing me!
would there be any requirements before u go to training on flying AH-64 or any fighting helicopters for i wish to fly on while serving in the military =D
Four years of college, but you could possibly get in with two years and extremely good grades, to Warrant Officer Flight Training. I'm not sure how selective the board is right now.
They were taking people on the High School to Flight School program before I joined the Army back in 1984. The Marines will let a person fly Helicopters with an Associates Degree (I'm not sure about the Navy).
Think of the helicopter of a plane but looking up instead.. when you flip the chopper so the propellor is looking towards the ground it will go down quite quickly but if you do it fast enough you can get it past the breaking point where its facing slightly backwards which pulls the chopper in that direction and then from there you keep going like that and eventually it will pull out. Not sure if i explained that well or not
