i didn't have the oil level tool so i just winged it.. i made sure the dapening rod was nice and smooth and it wasn't bubbling anymore, added a little more oil after it stopped bubbling added a little more oil then checked for bubbling again.. put it all together and it's working fine..
Is this video applicable for a 2007 honda cbr600rr? And what time of fork fluid do I use to fill the fork? I don't have a service manual so I would greatly appreciate any help given.
My forks make a clicking sound when I compress them with my weight on the front tire I ride a Crf 250r 2005 what could this be amd how do you know where to set the rebound?
@qwerbait5000 - it could be the springs inside (they all rattle a bit). On your 05, the rebound is on the bottom of the fork and the compression adjustment is on the top.
I have 50 mm Zokes on a new 2009 Husky WR250, I only want to clean up the internals and change out the break in oil as there is no need to replace the seals. Do I need to remove the seals to do that and if so can I reuse the seals?
Thanks for a very clear and precise explanation. It makes it all so much easier to do when you can actually see the process. My son is back on the track flat out with new fork seals. braaaaaaaat.
Great instructions! What if i reset the rebounder to zero and have no clue where i had it before? is there any standard setting/turns for that or will i be force to try my way out to get it right? Thanks!
@RockyMountainATVMC ya i see. i was gonna get them to do it cus i thought u need some specialty tools. but im gonna do it my self now. even if i had to buy some specialty tools it would be cheaper then letting them do it.
@4strokeh8er - it depends on what fork oil was stock. If your bike came with 15 weight it would speed up the valving. It wouldn't drop the front end though just sitting there. The springs hold the bike up. most modern motocross bikes take 5 weight.
This should be the same for a Suzuki SV650s 2005? and if i wanted to also lower (the right way) what would be the best way?.. i'm 5'8 and weigh 145 if that helps...
Can the fork springs be changed with the forks still on the the bike, and would this process be done by simple doing the very first part of the first video, remove cap, remove spring - replace spring -re assemble?

hello, awesome vids, im planning to do this on my 05 cbr 600rr, do i just need new forks seal and the dust seal and oil, or what other parts will i need? thank you
HI, I have a 92 Yamaha seca II, both front fork seals are leaking oil, do you suggest I buy new ones or can they be rebuild? and what type of fork seals are they? Thanks
@jonytj - You don't want to buy new forks. New seals and oil will solve the problem. We have OEM seals for your machine on our website. They are easy to change.
Thanks for this video.I just bought all 3 of them tools and seals you have there from RockyMountain. Did the seals on my Yamaha wr250..Thanks again everthing worked out just how you did it.
i like your videos very much, congratulations, you speak in a good manner and one can understand everything at once, thank you for all your knowledge.
when it says set your rebound to where it was. How do you know where this is at? I bought my 1st bike and am new to all of this so any help is major help.
@illucid1982 - before you turn them out, count the # of clicks as you turn them in. When you are done, put them back to the same place. Your owner's manual will have the stock settings (# of clicks out).
@badboy12firefighter When I replaced my yz250 seals I just used a screw driver. But be very careful you don't tear up your seal when you put pressure on it to put it in place. The seal drivers are a lot better tool to use if you have the time to get it tho.
@badboy12firefighter Hey bro. You can't use anything else or you will damage the seal!!! You can pick up a fork seal driver on ebay from 12.99 to 60 dollars mine was 29.99 for a 48 mm.Hope this helps
hey love your videos. does this apply to an 04 yz125 with factory connection forks. and also how important is it to have the tool to push up the seals, is there anything else you can use thats more common
@dirtbikeman102 - yes this applies directly to your bike. The driver is important if you want it to be easy and safe on the seals. Well worth the investment.
I have 1999 YZ250 forks. They are almost exactly like these. Mine have a rubber bumper at the top of the damping rod, right near the fork cap. When I took them apart, the rubber bumper had disintegrated. I was curious if this really did much, I cant figure out what it would do. Do I need to replace them, or can I leave it out?
@dmcneill52 - I would replace them. i would also pull apart the valve stack in the bottom of the fork (the 17mm allen head in the bottom) and make sure no pieces are stuck in the shims.
@RockyMountainATVMC - Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know what the purpose of the rubber piece is? Also, Do I need anything other than an air driver to get the valve stack out? Do you have to hold the rods with anything like with non-cartridge forks?
Thanks for posting. I'm about to do my seals and wasn't sure if I needed to remove the cartridge. My forks are similar construction and I can see now that I don't need to remove the cartridge and that will save a bunch of time and effort.
great video! it really helped out tremendously when changing out the spring and seals last night. tusk oil level tool works like a charm. ps, i think you forgot to add the flat washer in the video. i did too and had to take it back apart, lol
@hoasis - Thanks. We didn't forget the washer. We install it at 1:40. This bike has a differecnt shaped washer/spacer. Some of the older bikes have flat washers.
@Xx11HaloGuy11xX - Your CRF250f has much simpler forks. Thy are easier. Refer to your manual. As far as popping them apart and putting the seals in, they are very similar.
No, i was wondering what would happen, i think all of it has drained out now, and changing seals seems easy enough its taking the forks off that i`m not sure if i want to to. I also dont have one of those cap wrenchs
@rider9119 - Are you asking for permission:)? you certainly open yourself up to a little more risk of damaging something, but it is up to you. In most cases if it hasn't lost too much, it would be fine. Why wait though? Changing seals is easy.
after installing my fork seals, and putting the forks back on the bike, i saw that the fork tubes had tons of flex in them when i went to turn the wheel.
also, i can turn my inner fork tube without turning the outer fork leg. is this normal?
if you can help me with this problem along with the flexing problem that would be greatly appreciated!!!
I have a 01 ktm 520. Im wondering which one of the videos i should watch to rebuilt the forks on my bike. some one told me they didint think my forks are the cartrige style. they have a scew and then a big plastic knob on the top next to the scew.
Refer to your manual. The compression adjustments are found on the bottom of the forks (in = stiffer, out = softer). you can also raise your oil height a little. i don't have the specs. refer to your manual.
Do you mean XC-W e? (It is crazy that KTM makes us use the entire alphabet!)Your machine is not a 'twin chamber" type. It is just the cartridge style.
06 WR250F. Great video. Bought the tools & seal from Rocky Mtn and done the work according to manual and video. My washer between the seal and the bushing did not stay in, when I inserted the bushing. I pushed it up and inserted the seal, which held it in place. Is this common or did I damage my seal?
If you are pounding the bushing and seal in place with the for right side up (outer tube on top), you may notice the washer wants to just drop out. That is normal because there is nothing to hold it in place but the seal. Once the bushing is in place, install the washer with the seal.
some guys use a piece of PVC pipe, but if you want to do it the easy way (and safe way), buy a seal driver. You will find it is more than worth its cost. We have them for $39.99.
This was done on a 2004 YZ. The 2005's have aluminum frames and totally different forks. if you have an '05 or newer YZ, refer to the dual chamber fork video.
im pretty sure the forks on my 1995 suzuki rm 250 are cartridge style, but in an ad from suzuki from 1995 they say theyre "twin chamber cartridge style forks" still the cartridge forks in the vid look like mine and ive got a factory suzuki manual so........ wish me luck
i cut one of my old seals in half on one side with a hack saw, then through the rubber (not the metal) on the other side. then i turned the fork upside down and used the bottom of the fork to push them all in.
this has been so much help thank you. i am replacing my fork seals and oil and springs, but i dont have some of these tools like the fork oil level thing. do you know of anything else i can use or do
You are absolutly correct! The CR250 got the dual chamber fork in 1997, but the 125 never got them. sorry i told you wrong. This is the right video for your CR125. You will need to check the manual for the oil level. Thanks!
Great video. Did my forks yesterday. Only problem is my right side fork is really bouncy once I put it all back together. Does that mean there is still air trapped inside the dampening rod?
On a cartridge type fork the it doesn't take much for the oil to push any extra air out quickly, so I don't suspect that to be the problem unless you didn't get enough oil in the fork. Make sure your rebound adjuster is set to the correct spot as well.
The rebound is all the way out on both forks as is the compression. The left side feels how it should but the right side feels like there is no oil in it. They are both at
Is it possible to drive the bushing and the oil seal without a fork seal driver? I'm doing this for a friend and don't want to buy special tools that I won't use after... It's on a RM125 1993.
Yes you can, but it isn't easy and you could damage the seal. Sometimes a piece of pvc pipe works. I have found the $39 for the driver is a far better value than taking the time to rig something, but yes it can be done.
Yes, VERY nice videos..much cheaper than taking it to a shop when it's a rather simple job.
Maxaug123, what I did was cut my old oil seal and fit it around to pound the new seal in. It works good, just electric tape around a philips screwdriver and slowly pound in a circular motion around the seal. Worked great for me and was priceless...
Will these precedures work for an 02 rm125? Thanks! If it does im gonna have to make some purchases lol ive paid to have mine rebuilt probly 5 times now.. Itd be nice to be ready to go and rebuild whenever i need
Thanks man, just checked out the dual chamber videos, looks do-able! FInding this video was the best part of my week lol, great website over at RM ATV/MC, awesome filters to find all the tools that fit my bike in one search page
Great vid., thanks!!! Question, though. I am helping a friend with a '97 RM250, conventional Showa forks, do a fluid change. How do we measure the oil level with THAT type fork? It doesn't look like the spring can be removed to check, nor can we get anything in there to check the height with the spring in it.
Whole suspension? It is the forks, not the rear shock. For a 2004 CRF250r you need to refer to our dual chamber fork video. To remove the fork from the bike you need to reove the front wheel, the front brake caliper, and loosen the triple clamp pinch bolts. The forks will slide right out from the bottom of the triple clamps.
I have 2006 KTM EXC 450, as I know it has this type of fork. Thanks for the video, but one part is not clear for me at 5:50 the air/oil measuring with the syringe. Could you please explain it a little bit how to do it?
Looks pretty straight forward. I have a '91 KDX 250. Gonna do it myself and save about $250.00. Very informative, thanks for sharing.

dennissteakin 2 years ago
Easier.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
thanks i think ill do it myself, thanks agian
dennissteakin 2 years ago
You will do fine. your fork is almost identical to the one in this video. They are not worth paying a shop to do. too easy.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
i believ there kayaba or something, the right side is leaking now,is there any way to harden the forks, like stiffer
dennissteakin 2 years ago
Refer to your manual. The compression adjustments are found on the bottom of the forks (in = stiffer, out = softer). you can also raise your oil height a little. i don't have the specs. refer to your manual.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
i just looked in the manual it looks pretty easy thanks again man
dennissteakin 2 years ago
i have one more question,it does not say how much oil is needed in each tube.and will 1 liter be enough
dennissteakin 2 years ago
between both forks, if you get all the old oil out, you will need a little over 1 liter. i would suggest buying 2 so you have enough.

are the 2008 ktm 300 exc-e forks twin chamber? if so do you know ho much oil goes into the inner chamber?
spruland 2 years ago
Do you mean XC-W e? (It is crazy that KTM makes us use the entire alphabet!)Your machine is not a 'twin chamber" type. It is just the cartridge style.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
i found out yesterday that it is a twin chamber (closed chamber)
in australia and new zealand we only get the ktm exc or the sx range.

06 WR250F. Great video. Bought the tools & seal from Rocky Mtn and done the work according to manual and video. My washer between the seal and the bushing did not stay in, when I inserted the bushing. I pushed it up and inserted the seal, which held it in place. Is this common or did I damage my seal?
kayakoc1 2 years ago
If you are pounding the bushing and seal in place with the for right side up (outer tube on top), you may notice the washer wants to just drop out. That is normal because there is nothing to hold it in place but the seal. Once the bushing is in place, install the washer with the seal.

what can i use if i dont have a seal driver help!
columbinemark 2 years ago
some guys use a piece of PVC pipe, but if you want to do it the easy way (and safe way), buy a seal driver. You will find it is more than worth its cost. We have them for $39.99.

this is great help thanks!!
i also noticed that this was an 05 yz 250 i have an 05 yz 125 is it the same procedure?
bigpimpin780 2 years ago
This was done on a 2004 YZ. The 2005's have aluminum frames and totally different forks. if you have an '05 or newer YZ, refer to the dual chamber fork video.

I have a 1991 Kdx 250 with stock Kayaba Forks. Don't have a manual. 1. Will this work?. and 2. how much oil does it take?.
cashbrotha 2 years ago
im pretty sure the forks on my 1995 suzuki rm 250 are cartridge style, but in an ad from suzuki from 1995 they say theyre "twin chamber cartridge style forks" still the cartridge forks in the vid look like mine and ive got a factory suzuki manual so........ wish me luck

i have a 1996 kx250 but there is no oil in the fork can i just add oil to see if it has a leak?????
LuanLSilva 2 years ago
How do you know there is no oil. To get the right amount in you need to take it apart.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
is there anything else i can use as a seal driver?
hondaracer85cc 2 years ago
i cut one of my old seals in half on one side with a hack saw, then through the rubber (not the metal) on the other side. then i turned the fork upside down and used the bottom of the fork to push them all in.
heyhowudo 2 years ago
this has been so much help thank you. i am replacing my fork seals and oil and springs, but i dont have some of these tools like the fork oil level thing. do you know of anything else i can use or do

i have a yz125 2002 and found oil leaking out of my fork dust seal what happened?
columbinemark 2 years ago
What happened??? I would have to guess that oil leaked out of the oil seal, which then leaked out the dust seal. Time for new fork seals.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
will this work for a 2007 cr85r? please respond thanks.
tristanoliva 2 years ago
for the most part it is the same. refer to your manual for the differences.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
the seal replacemtn part will be the same. Depending on the cartridge type, the filling and measuring might be the same

Does it work on Honda CR 125 07? How much oil (mililiters) i must put it in, 500ml,550ml?
RepsolRC211V 2 years ago
No. You need to refer to our dual chamber type fork video. Refer to your manual for oil specs.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
I think CR 125 have cartridge, all other Hondas CR/F have Dual chamber.
Dont have manual.
RepsolRC211V 2 years ago
You are absolutly correct! The CR250 got the dual chamber fork in 1997, but the 125 never got them. sorry i told you wrong. This is the right video for your CR125. You will need to check the manual for the oil level. Thanks!
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
Great video. Did my forks yesterday. Only problem is my right side fork is really bouncy once I put it all back together. Does that mean there is still air trapped inside the dampening rod?
jrhockey03 2 years ago
On a cartridge type fork the it doesn't take much for the oil to push any extra air out quickly, so I don't suspect that to be the problem unless you didn't get enough oil in the fork. Make sure your rebound adjuster is set to the correct spot as well.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
The rebound is all the way out on both forks as is the compression. The left side feels how it should but the right side feels like there is no oil in it. They are both at
90mm oil height.
jrhockey03 2 years ago
Nice videos!
Is it possible to drive the bushing and the oil seal without a fork seal driver? I'm doing this for a friend and don't want to buy special tools that I won't use after... It's on a RM125 1993.
Thanks!
maxaug123 2 years ago
Yes you can, but it isn't easy and you could damage the seal. Sometimes a piece of pvc pipe works. I have found the $39 for the driver is a far better value than taking the time to rig something, but yes it can be done.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
Yes, VERY nice videos..much cheaper than taking it to a shop when it's a rather simple job.
Maxaug123, what I did was cut my old oil seal and fit it around to pound the new seal in. It works good, just electric tape around a philips screwdriver and slowly pound in a circular motion around the seal. Worked great for me and was priceless...

Will these precedures work for an 02 rm125? Thanks! If it does im gonna have to make some purchases lol ive paid to have mine rebuilt probly 5 times now.. Itd be nice to be ready to go and rebuild whenever i need
slot001 2 years ago
Starting in 2001, the rm125 got Showa Twin chamber style forks. You need to refer to our "Dual chamber" fork video. You can do it. It is quite easy.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
Thanks man, just checked out the dual chamber videos, looks do-able! FInding this video was the best part of my week lol, great website over at RM ATV/MC, awesome filters to find all the tools that fit my bike in one search page
slot001 2 years ago
Great vid., thanks!!! Question, though. I am helping a friend with a '97 RM250, conventional Showa forks, do a fluid change. How do we measure the oil level with THAT type fork? It doesn't look like the spring can be removed to check, nor can we get anything in there to check the height with the spring in it.
Thanks again!
motoxdog 2 years ago
That fork is quite a bit different. Refer to our "dual chamber" type fork video. That is a dual chamber style fork on that bike.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to give us a visual.
4Him4u2 2 years ago
Is that the whole suspenssion?
would this work on a 04 CRF250r
and how do you remove the suspenssion?
5e4r6t 2 years ago
Whole suspension? It is the forks, not the rear shock. For a 2004 CRF250r you need to refer to our dual chamber fork video. To remove the fork from the bike you need to reove the front wheel, the front brake caliper, and loosen the triple clamp pinch bolts. The forks will slide right out from the bottom of the triple clamps.
RockyMountainATVMC 2 years ago
are the showa forks on my 08 crf250r similar to the ones shown in this video? i want to make sure i can dig myself out once i take them apart
thegoattamer 2 years ago
I have 2006 KTM EXC 450, as I know it has this type of fork. Thanks for the video, but one part is not clear for me at 5:50 the air/oil measuring with the syringe. Could you please explain it a little bit how to do it?
