  • Ahhh. Love love love your voice!

  • I love this song, it's interesting to watch students from differents parts of the world singing it, so far I like this one and one from a mexican girl, in my opinion the vibrato sounds a little unnatural in some parts, but still you were really good.

I agree, singers are not what they use to be, they seem more preocupate on sing louder instead of doing music, I can't remember when was the last time I went to the opera and enjoy it

  • I agree, I'm only 19 but as far as the problem I can see is managers and producers, and even some instructers are only worried about getting them out there, fast, and at a price, they're not worried about the toll it takes on not only the singers but also the art itself, and by the time a singer is 30 when they should be starting, their career is over. Opera is an art that takes time and persistance, not just vibrato and a powerful voice. If more singers learn to wait, they'll be much happier

  • You have a beautiful clean voice. I love your spin. Don't wear that type of dress that peeks out your legs it is distracting from your wonderful voice. Try to think a pure vowel keep it's on ah and try not to fold you bottom lip inward. Remember vowels are more tongue and palette than the shape of the lips.

  • It's been a while since I've heard that sweet voice of yours. I'm really impress, you have gone a great distance with your studies. Has to be one of my favorite video that you have posted, along with that Broadway song. Keep at it cause I hope to see you on stage some day.

  • good voice you got there. But a lousy recording. Make sure you don't overdo it on the top notes. I am sure you know what i mean, to much compression. Keep up the good work.

I myself am a norwegian student of singing (tenor) appreciate your videos

  • I commented on the other of these two six months ago but not this one? Heresy, I say!

Yet another amazing performance, as always.

You know I'll always be your fan.

  • Is that Mrs. Seal playing the Piano?!!!!! OMG! If it is I know her!!!! OMG!! WOW! If not then ignore this.

  • Yes, it is.

  • OMG! How do you know her? I went to Barron Collier High School and was in the Concert Choir with Mr. Todd Peterson and she traveled with us to Austria/Prague/San Fransico/Italy! I love her so much! We all do here in Naples. Where are you from?

  • I go to the college she teaches at.. I'm from Naples but I live in Fort Myers now.

  • I live in Fort Myers also! I go to FGCU studying voice now. How about you?

  • I hope you intend to become professionnal : your voice is very interesting !

  • i´m also studying this aria.. :)

congratulations, i think you´ve done a good job..

the only thing that i might sugest is that you sing the high notes with more expression..it may help you to reach them with less effort.. cause it isn´t easy haha

you have a beautiful voice :) congrats!

  • Great singing. its funny u did this recital on my b-day

  • Wow! You definetely have a gift. Brava!

  • i think you're Renee Fleming in the making... you did very well for being so young. keep this up and one day you'll be singing this in front of a sold out audience in Vienna. ;)

  • a dark voice would be more touching however this aria must be sung at least once in a lifetime!

  • Could you tell me why a Rusalka (a young water nymph) would need a "darker" voice? That's absurd. This opera wasn't written for Renee Fleming nor Anna Netrebko, they just sang it. In my opinion, older, darker voices DO NOT fit the part of a young, non-human at all.

  • excellent work on the diction, I am learning this one and it is a bear!!.. The high notes are a little shrill but you have them clearly. Just, open a little more and keep it up! Best of Luck!!

  • Thank you very much. I'll definitely work on that!

  • Keep on this. You have what it takes, it's alright for a student. The important thing is the place where we are heading, and a healthy path to it. I think your performance has achieved something in here.

  • Sweetheart, I am not trying to be the Simon Cowell of youtube but you ought to leave this rep alone for a few years and find yourself a serious voice teacher who will give you the appropriate rep to sing and DEVELOP. Listen to the types of voices here on YOUTUBE that sing Rusalka and this will give you the idea. You should try singing light soubrette music for now. Wishing you all the best.

  • Thanks for the feedback. However, I have numerous teachers that are graduates of Eastman School of Music and sang opera for a living. I'm 100% supportive of them and I firmly believe that they're pointing me in the right direction. Besides, I enjoy singing the aria. If it were staged, I'd agree with you.

  • But these teachers, as good as they may be, will never match listening to the great sopranos of the past : Ponselle, Muzio, and so on... You have to find your model, the type of voice that fits yours and follow it. Even great sopranos may be personnal bad teachers : Crespin was wellkown as a voicebreaker at the ONSM of Paris. I myself was a pupill of Helia T'Hezan, a great french dramatic soprano of the 60 and 70s and she didn't fit to me.

  • Good, but personally prefer a darker more mature voice for this aria ;)

Keep up the good work, though!

  • i totally agree with thedarkone05. voices like netrebko are good for this aria.

however, you have such a sweet sounding timbre!!! just work on your diction, it sounds american!

  • Netrebko can't do ANY aria justic--ESPECIALLY this one. The girl here isn't perfect either but she has the lyric voice that fist this aria.

  • why do you believe that netrebko can't do any aria justice? maybe she doesn't have the image or personality of a typical opera diva, but if she couldn't do any aria justice, then why is she landing great roles and performing internationally? and i understand that rusalka is a young character, but something about darkness in the voice completes the aria, which many agree to! but it's just an opinion. and i'm not here to fight w/another youtuber like most do.

  • I do agree with you and I will go further : my definitive reference for this aria is the recording by Zinka Milanov in 1955 or 56 for RCA. Her voice is dark in the low notes and clear in the high. Though Rusaalka is a nymph, she's not weak and ethereal, she's determined.

  • Good point! Singers today don't really have someone they can go to for examples on true operatic singing, and good teachers are a rarity. I can think of few singers today who don't water down their sound. No wonder every student coming up sounds like a pop singer. Listen to Aprile Millo's version of this song. Beautiful!

  • Yes, I know it since long and it's one of my favorite ! By the way, Milanov's is from 1958. When I was studying, I had 2 teachers and I didn't blindly trust them, I took from their advices those which I felt adequate to my voice. And listening carefully to Lauri Volpi, Tagliavini and Vinogradov for the placement and to Schipa and Pippo for the diction was the best school ever !

  • Just gorgeous...truly!!!

  • Haha, yeah. I'm about 5 feet tall, too! It's funny to me how when I was younger, everyone thought I was older, and now that I'm older, it's the opposite! I hope it stays that way! lol

  • oh ok. You look younger! I guess it's just the picture.

  • this girl seems awfully young to be singing this aria. How old are you? And what school is this at?

  • I'm 22, and it's at a local college called Edison.

  • you have a beautiful voice. wow.

  • Sing, my angel of music!

  • This girl needs a serious voice teacher.

  • you're just jealous

  • I agree. There is however a voice in there. This performance however is nothing to marvel over.

  • Bravo! your voice is very very very beautiful.

  • Bravo !

  • Hearing you sing makes me melt. Please, don't ever stop!
