Earth hour in New Zealand was ove ages ago an I agree there was ony a little dimming here in Auckland. Most of it went dark but there were these houses still with their lights on and then they went off at 9:30 lol

For this to become truly effective, to become part of "pop" culture. We need to start doing this on a monthly basis or at least several times a year. Global warming is caused by the wobble in the earths axis of rotation and solar flare activity. Anyone who believes otherwise needs to have their head examined. Why don't all the people on one side of the planet jump up in the air while the people on the other side jump on the ground and maybe we can adjust the wobble back to where it belongs. That makes a whole more lot sense to me. Your theory makes as much sense as blaming human production of methane gas for global warming.
You take an extremely complex topic and make it sound like you're the king of it.
Of course wobble in the axis and solar flare have some effects, but there's no solid proof that increasing greenhouse gases increase warming. Hell, without them this planet would be much much cooler.

turning on lights means using power and power comes from coal power plants which pollute the environment, so turning off our lights mean that there is less coal being used to generate electricity... but there are alternative sources for electricity being used...

For this to become truly effective, to become part of "pop" culture. We need to start doing this on a monthly basis or at least several times a year. It is a feel good event as mentioned by an earlier poster. All true revolutions start as a feel good event. This is nothing like sacrificing a virgin though, I think that was a pretty pathetic attempt at an analogy......

All these "solutions" are just feel-good measures for the feeble minds. "Let's all shut the lights off for an hour and light candles!" Yeah, that will make us feel like we are "making a difference". What a joke.
This is the same mass mentality that caused human sacrifice in our history when the crops failed, long droughts happened, floods covered the land, or epidemics killed the masses.

Resting on the environment, did all countries participate in this latest event? As it stands now, current greenhouse gas agreements allow China, India, and Mexico special exemptions for toxic waste, while the rest of the western world must make drastic cuts?? Dirty air is dirty air!!! What a fluke? Most of our jobs are going to the aforementioned countries!! Why, slack environmental standards allow companies to transfer work there at the expense of Canada and USA!!

Did you remember summer 2005? Hurricane Katrina! Just because it's cold doesn't mean global warming went away. The ice is STILL melting. Islands are STILL drowning. Our world isn't perfect, with poverty and all... but trying to save and care for our planet, could make it at least a little better. Even if Earth Hour is over or not, we can still contribute.

Global warming is caused by the wobble in the earths axis of rotation and solar flare activity. Anyone who believes otherwise needs to have their head examined. Why don't all the people on one side of the planet jump up in the air while the people on the other side jump on the ground and maybe we can adjust the wobble back to where it belongs. That makes a whole more lot sense to me. Your theory makes as much sense as blaming human production of methane gas for global warming.

You take an extremely complex topic and make it sound like you're the king of it.
Of course wobble in the axis and solar flare have some effects, but there's no solid proof that increasing greenhouse gases increase warming. Hell, without them this planet would be much much cooler.

Humans are really interesting.
They want to stop climate change. Fine but instead of not driving a car, they switch off the light... As if lights are producing green house gases ?!?
Corporations are of course participating. It is less electricity bill that they need to pay.
But, yes, emotional gain is huge. People think they did something with this. Its nice to show that we can stick to common idea. However would it be nicer to make more educated way of promoting it ????
