  • Cute cute bird...

I have a senegal parrot , and they are also great pet:-)

  • do temnehs have grey tails?

  • we have two small dogs (west island terriors), one small female, and a chunky male. our timneh does a weird dance around the big male lol. and throws things to gain his attention, but hes too lazy to notice... my parrot hates the female, she swoops her. once the dog grabbed the parrot, once she let go, the parrot said "F**kin hell" haha and ruffelled his feathers. he was not affected. although the dog got a nasty bite on the nose!

i love my parrot, hes seriously gangster.

  • we have a timneh. hes awesome, and very happy. he is only in the cage when he wants to be, and believe me, he lets us know when he wants to be lol. he makes loads of mimics, and great whistles. But he isnt hand reared, hes wild. He is great for a wild bird but he doesnt like being handled. he doesnt get scared, he stands up to us, and shows whos boss. hes got a good bite but i cant blame him. one day he will pull out the gun from under his feathers. i love him so much lol.

  • Hey cool parrot maybe you could feed it to the python for your next vid?! :)

  • I <3 that song! And Nixie is Beautiful!! 8D

  • I have a 29 yr old just like this one... her name is Goo.. my mamaw got her when i was 6 yrs old and she talks non stop! and is very smart... she has lived with me now for about 6 yrs.. and yes she will know what she is saying and doing lol she was walking to me one day to get her treat and she stumbled on one of her perchs and she yelled out SHEW!! WE!! lol and then I said lordy u bout fell she said YEP! aaawwww

  • I want to know how is Nixie now? I haven't seen any newer videos...unless I am clueless, which could be true. I own a re-homed Timneh, he is going to be 14. I have had him for almost 4 years now. The timneh has only maroon, the red you are seeing I believe is called "red factor" I will look for more of Nixies videos...

  • i'm suprized he hasn't fed this parrot to his freinds12 foot python snake

  • lol im sorry but can you say unfitting music??

  • SHE IS CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • It's gonna get depressed with that music you play!

  • ehh 40 to 60 years old. You will cry so bad when he dies. and the best part about that is that, you can talk to her / she will see how our Flying cars looks ;D

  • shes beautiful

  • what song

  • imagine if pigeons could talk o0

  • jeez the music sucks

  • how's she doing, i'm thinking about getting a timneh

  • thanks a lot :)

  • can u tell me the name of the song?

  • I think Timneh and Congo Greys are the most awesome parrots ever. :D

  • thumbs up for nixie being super cute !!!

  • ofc itsn not fully grey here is called (translated to english) grey red tail :))

i realy want one to from little so it know my familie so it wont bite to often guz our old one be bought it while it was like 1 year old and bite me twice freaken hard so i'm still little scared of them..

  • my girl friend gave me one for free lol

    \

  • hi nixie:))

  • There $6000 here in Australia..

  • gorgeous bird..i would love to see an update. my timneh is grown now and is over a year old and she talks a ton!!!!!! she is so smart. your nixie is gorgeous and makes me want a baby again. i like the music too.

  • nice :) mines cammra shy and eats my lens when i try filiming him, but he loves watchin videos like this all day long :) hes a couch pattaoto when it comes to these vids :) (Y)

  • ive got a timneh too ...he is 10 ...love him to bits ... well i think its a him ....lol

  • I'm looking to buy a second parrot, and a friend of mine who owns a bird store says that Timnehs do not talk as well as Congos, despite what you may read about that tells you otherwise. Is there any validity to this?

  • a bird that smart is vruel to keep in a cage. it like keeping a 4 yr old in a cage

  • @TICHhardcorelover

A properly taken care of parrot will spend the day outside the cage. The cage is like a bedroom, a place to sleep, take naps and play with toys.

  • @TICHhardcorelover

Not all people keep them in cages, some people, like myself, keep there african grey out of their cages all day and all night and have constant interaction with them.

  • Nixie is beautiful! I also have Timneh, very intelligent birds, big talker. Good luck

  • hi how much about did you pay for the purch im looking for one but not sure about the prices? plz reply thank you Xx. kikou .xX

  • We get her supplies (including cage and perch) from petsolutions(dot)com

  • how much are they?

  • there about 1200-1500

  • thats a gorgeous grey parrott saw one the other week it had a huge vocabulary very inteligent animals

  • She's very pretty. :)

  • When nixie goes farward like that she will wanna go on your shoulder

  • An african grey and an Evanescence song? You are an A+ on my list!

  • You got a lot of pets lol

I will be like you someday :]

  • Nixie sooo cute! I have Timneh too, shes almost 9 months old, already knows few words. I love African Greys, they so smart!

  • How much do African Greys usualy cost? and do they have bad tempers?

  • i have a 32 year old african grey (congo)

theyre a bit bigger than the timneh's

is there any difference in intelligence, as in ability to speak?

  • Not really. The biggest difference is that Timnehs are more likely to bond with multiple people and as you stated Timnehs are smaller.

  • as far as I know their intelligence levels are similar. Personalities differ in all birds tho. My timneh is 29.

  • @kebab52 I had a Timney. I was always told they weren't as smart as the others.

They are definitely not as pretty.

I have an Umbrella now. The most gentle bird in the world.

  • i have a loro green parrot named thelea she looks similier to nixie except sheas green and has colorded feather s on her tail

  • gosh i hope that parrot doesn't learn how to sing like that!

  • nice parrot, beautiful!

  • kind of looks sorta like a seagull

  • does this thing shit all around the house?

  • Nope, she is trained to go in a few designated spots where there is paper supplied for her.

  • How did you train her? I'm planning on getting an African Grey and I don't want to have him/her caged. My main concern is the pooping.

    Thanks.

  • Weal how are you train a dog ore cat ?.

  • @FartherAway420 How much did it cost?

  • it did a crap at 0:56 LOL

  • She's a beauty.

I have a 14-year-old Timneh. He can talk very well and is still learning new words and phrases.

  • haha cool i got a african grey its annoying n bites me soemtimes rofl its likes me tho but its jsut wants to bite evrything around the house

  • Nixie has her moments as well, haha.

  • lol i was just watching all your videos..man keep it up i am a animal lover i want to get a snake like 3 feet or smaller lol so yea i love my grey but my grey has full red tail lol

  • She's so cute! I adopted a 19 yr old Timneh and he's just wonderful. I can't believe how affectionate he is and he does talk some as well. I've had him not quite a few months. He made himself at home here almost immediately. I know what you mean when you say they remind you of pidgeons because I grew up being around homing pidgeons.

  • Thats pretty cool having a Timneh that old. Granted they get much older than that, but most people seem to have younger ones. Congrats on adopting him :o)

  • Thanks! I was skeptical about taking him but I'm soooo glad I did. For a bird that wasn't handled much, he's incredibley friendly and lovable (a real cuddler). He seems to like most people as well. He even gives kisses out to my friends!

  • i am thinking about gettin a grey does nixie talk a lot. good video

  • Yes. Some days more than others.

  • thanks

  • What do you do to get him started? My bird is Smokie, he is about 3.5 years old. He can say his name, but that's about it. What really makes them talk? Do you think leaving the UTube on would help?? Thanks for the videos... they are fun to watch

  • She likes to talk when there is noise. The T.V. or music usually gets her talking good. What kind of bird do you have?

  • Smokie is an African Grey Timneh. Smokie finally took a bath and really enjoyed himself in the kitchen sink. I do not have a webcam, so I cannot as of yet put anything up.... but in due time...

  • Yeah, Grays love the water (sometimes) :oP

  • I've heard it helps if when you seem interested or excited about what you're saying to them, hence why so many parrots seem to learn things like "knock it off" and "shut up" fairly quickly. It's a loud and animated response from people. So careful what you yell in hearing range. ;)

  • she is going to be a depressed parrot listning to that music

  • SO CUTEEEEEEEE LOVE HER!!!!

  • that's evanessence in the background isn;t it?

good choice of music for a bueatiful animal

  • Nixie is so cute.

  • How much are African Grey Parrots??

    Thank you

  • Between the bird and the supplies be willing to throw down at least $1500

  • DeadlyChinchilla, it occurred to me you might be young after I posted that, so I checked. I might have pulled my punch on the judgmental comment. You're about my son's age.

I did quarantine them, and they were all single birds. Both their lives and mine were better! The one that haunts me is the umbrella I didn't get. A friend's daughter-in-law had him, and her solution to it's screaming problem was to cover it all the time. She tried to coax her into giving it up, but failed.

  • Insulting me for my age isn't exactly civilized. I thought, from the comment, that the BIRDS had issues the people couldn't or wouldn't deal with. This is common in the parrot world, and is not my own "stupid young judgement."

So very sorry that I misunderstood, and that you took it with such maturity. *note sarcasm*

  • It was hardly an insult. You are judgmental, and people do learn things with age, ideally. This started with me disagreeing with you about getting birds as babies, a bias you might not have when you are older. You said stupid, not me. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, b/c you do definitely have a tone. Are you intentionally missing the point b/c you're pissed? I was riffing on the horse whisperer theme. They weren't people w/ bird problems, but birds w/ people problems.

  • There is no "tone" in type format. You ASSUMED it, then set out to insult me, which I really don't appreciate. All I did was make a simple comment, perhaps based off a general misunderstanding, and I even offered advice on a healthy food source. You conveniently ignore every other comment while claiming a "tone" in one, then pop out with the "well, you're young and stupid" assumption. And yes, when you insult an age the way you did, you ARE saying "stupid young person." I'm done with this.

  • Why do you keep going back to STUPID? I never implied, never mind said, that. I think your attitude, not your intelligence, is reflected in the ideas you have. Don't be so defensive. Really, don't you hope and expect you will know more (not that you will be any smarter, but you will know more things b/c you had more time to learn them) the older you get? Might you mellow a bit, and not judge people who give up birds they can't handle, or think more kindly of old birds?

  • You two still going at it? On my Burmese Python eating a Bunny I can understand it. But we are talking about Nixie here. haha

  • Sorry. I'll stop. You have a vid of your python eating a rabbit!? Before I got sick, when I had all the birds, I also had 3 ball pythons. I got in several 'net fights over that! People had very strong opinions that my birds were going to end up as snake food. Little did they know. I fed them white mice. Someone was selling hamsters for 25 cents each, so I bought 12. The pythons would have none of it. They never got near the birds. The birds would have fought back and won if they had.

  • Yeah, Nixie could take my snakes if she had too. But I never let that chance happen.

  • Aww, baby! Wish mine was still a cute, happy baby. My Congo is now a raging teenager, but at least puberty is over with at 3 years.

A really good food for these birds is a cooked bean mix. Lots of good fiber, especially if you mix in some barley. You just cook dehydrated beans for about 45 minutes, then pack it up and unfreeze small amounts as you need it. Its SUPER good for them, and they love a warm tasty meal. Just sharing. ^_^

  • She's so cute! You can tell she's wondering what that thing your pointing at her is. I can just see the gears turning in her head...God I love parrots.

  • She has a very sweet disposition.

  • Thanks Nice Bird By The Way ^_^

  • was that evanessance ...the music?

  • Evanescence - Hello

  • how much are they (african greys) in California.

  • I don't live in California so I have no clue.

  • They're about $1,000 no matter where you are in the US. Thats the low end, if you pre-order an egg from a breeder. Born birds can go as high as $1,500.

  • great video - my african grey passed away-my dad and mom heartbroken.

even the loss of the bird there is emptiness in the house because she use to wake us up at 6 am .

  • So sorry for your loss. My African grey passed away 18 months ago, and I still have that empty feeling.

  • sorry to hear for the loss of your bird .

  • I just got my grey yesterday.. He is almost 8 months. He's also a timneh.

Im soo antous to get him talking and learning. He's already got few noises down.. I have a video i put on yesterday that i was lucky enough to catch him turn around and show his red tail.. I guess its rare to have that they say.. Mine has red that looks almost like flames threw it.. Really cool.

  • get a lil recorder n make it play back a couple words over night every night :P

  • She's so cute ^_^ I may be thinking of getting one, how much do they cost, what age is it best to purchase?

  • I always get my animals as young as possible. We got her when she was 12 weeks old.

  • I really disagree that you should get them young. I had a long illness, but before that , I had a lot of birds and people starting giving me their problem birds. After 1 day, you couldn't tell which one I just got and which I hand fed as babies. And do the math - these birds can live to be 60 (greys) to 100 (Amazons) so there are a lot of birds out living their owners, and they need homes. I started out just wanting babies, but I was wrong.

  • Why would you take in random birds you knew had problems...? Just because you have birds doesn't mean you're a bird free-for-all for those who can't handle their own. How selfish of them...

  • They didn't have problems the old owners did, which obviously was the point of my posts. You are really judgmental.

  • cute.

  • name her "lucky" because your if your girlfriend wasint there she would be alive!!!!iiiii!!!!!!

  • Very cute bird :)

I'm planning to buy one but with my limited experience with birds, how can I know the approximate age of the bird? I don't want the seller to sell me an old one...

I read somewhere that you can tell from the color of the eyes or the legs or feather... but I didn't really get it...

does anyone have a good site or reference with illustrative pictures?

  • damn he is so cute:D

  • good video and nice grey hope you have good luck with her. i am trying to decide if i want a congo of timneh

  • evanescence in the background!!

  • I have a congo african grey i got him as a gift when i was seven and now i'm 15. he's about to be 9 next month he is really smart but he would never mimic anything i say only my dad...which is hilarious!

  • i knew some on who had one for 104 years he had to pass it on to his kids.

  • I live in Australian and you can send away some plucked feathers from your bird to a company called DNA solutions for $28 aussie they will tell you through DNA what sex your bird is in around a week. I don't know where you live but there should be something similar elsewhere.

  • i have one and how do you tell if it's a girl or boy? please respond

  • You would have to have a blood/feather sample done by your vet. Physically there is no reliable way to tell the difference between them.

  • how much would it cost?

  • Depends on your vet. For us I think it cost us less than $30. Many breeders offer it as well for an additional cost.

  • I have a timneh and they remind me of pigeons too!

  • Too bad they don't live for 4,000 years. Hatsheput of Egypt had one who she told all her secrets to, I bet that "hebebe" knew where the gold was buried. Just kidding folks.

  • they are reported to live up to 4000 years

  • Haha, 80 years.

  • What a quiet birdy! when i get a african grey, On about 16 weeks, does he bite me on the begin? plz response cuz i have a little agapornis that always bites me -.-

  • He might. You will have to build up trust with him/her.

  • Hey beautiful bird, mine is a congo who wont shut up welcome to hell! Please change the lighting too much of a glare.

  • do they bite?

  • anything with a mouth bites.......

  • Adorable. I'm thinking of getting one :)

  • I used to handfeed the Congo versions of these birds and have professionally handfed birds for years. These types of birds live 30 years, the way Alex had. My babies learned to speak at about the age your bird is in this video. Pretty little girl you've got there. Keep trying to teach her to speak and she will before she is 9 months. Teach her to identify objects and to count and add and subtract. You're very lucky. I wish I could own a bird like yours.

  • whats the song in the background called???

  • Evanescence - Hello

It's from Fallen one of my favorite CD's of all time .

  • How cute. They're very intelligent!

  • "They kinda remind me of pigeons. I know it sounds a bit weird"

No, it doesn't!! Really, they DO look a bit like pigeons!

That blurry-blue color and their bodies are alike and they do look like pigeons!

  • my white face grey cockatiel bites anyone that comes near his cage

  • African Greys tend to be like that around strangers. They will back off if they can but if cornered by a stranger they will try to bite while making some humorous sounds.

  • She's a cutie. I got my TAG when she was 4 months old. She's been trying to talk since the beginning and is now 2 years old and can repeat things she's only heard once....lol. So, even from the beginning you better watch what you say..lol. I have some videos of her on my page at different stages talking.

  • My friend has a african grey named hoss. hes pretty sweet. he makes abunch of sounds and can talk. he likes to dance... Theyre pretty awesoem birds.

  • i think they can live about 100 yrs

  • cool bird

  • im getting a timneh. do they bond to one person only

  • no, theyre rele friendly.

  • How much do they cost ?

  • ALOT... i got one and it was over £700

  • how much is that in dollars?

  • About $1200 I think.

  • Oh gosh!!

    Its hell expensive!

    Almost 6000 kunas!

It's Croatian valute of money and that's really much money!

But, I guess they're worth it!

I mean, it can be a really good companion that can actually speak with you and he lives at least 30 years, right?

  • They can actually live for nearly 60 years.

  • dang, wut a beauty. i want 1 :)

  • I collected last week my 12 week old congo african grey. Yours is adorable. I call mine Macy. Like the singer Macy Grey, my congo is also african and like the singer, my congo is loved by everyone in the family so mine is Macy the African Grey. Mine spends ALL its time OUT of the cage.

  • yes i mean loud. thanks i was just wondering because im might get one in the future. do you know any good websites?

  • knrfeatheredtreasures(dot)com is where I purchased her from.

  • how lud are they generally?

  • Assuming you mean loud: She has her moments when she can be loud, but as a whole she is not bad compared to many other birds.

  • What are Greys like to look after and own?

I'm researching them because i'm looking to buy my own in the next month or so.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

  • Just make sure you have plenty of time to spend with them EVERY DAY! I recommend AT LEAST 6 hours each day out of it's cage. Remember that they can live over 60 years so this is life long commitment! Other than that, just making sure you have everything you need and try to supply new toys to play with on a regular basis.

  • Love is what will make you receive one in your life. They are easy and cheap to care for but they will cost you a lot of time. Mine is always near me or on me on in my lap. MIne is only 12 weeks old. Still a baby.

  • i have an african grey parrot whicj is 14 years old same as me lol and now i can talk to it and it will reply in sentences lol BTW urs is great

  • Haha, my Timneh reallt comprehends what she's saying... When she bites me and I call her bad and mean we put her in her cage and she gets really pissed, so she tries telling my mom that "gracie make ouchie, Brat make ouch, Brat is bad" Yea, she calls me brat, cause I always call her brat.

  • Too funny!

  • She's adorable. My Timneh talks better - and more - than my Congo's. I love them, and it looks like you do too.

  • She is cute! I have a Timneh, he is now a big 4 years old. He speaks a lot and I have shown him some basic tricks: wave byebye, give me five, turn around and to put coins in a piggy bank. The goal is not to turn him into a circus bird. It is a way to build the relationship with him. He loves to make me proud of him and to show me how good he is.

  • Love your birdie, PS they need a lot of attention and not to mention the mess that they make, but in all they give back so much - hope you have time to view some of what GR can do (my 8 year old African Grey)

  • I love her. I remember when I got my Murphy at 4-5 months old. My boy. He is now 4 years on the 7th of March. Though...he doesn't talk much at all, but makes all kinds of other noises. I had him DNA sexed to be sure. You are going to have a blast with her. Don't know what I'd do without mine. Good luck and enjoy!!!

  • u can tell wen there small there eye's are not developed yet wen they are there will b a yellow circle in her eye

  • i think these birds are the smartest in the world they can learn more then 2000 words i got a quaker parrot

  • how much did u pay for the timneh?

  • shes adroable. so did u get her from a breeder? just curious..any updates?

  • Just incase you didn't know - when he stretches his wing + leg it's a greeting and you're meant to do it back ^.^

  • mate shes yonger than 4 month i have the same 1 iv had mine for 1 year and she looks like shes 10 lol but there amazing bords

  • She was hatched June 1st of this year. So she was actually almost 5 months old when I made this video :oP

  • That's amazing that they comprehend what they say! I never knew that! Awesome!

    Joanie

  • the body is a lot like a pigeon but not the head

  • When you said, Nixie, reminds you a pigeon, I was laughin so hard because my boyf always calls my baby , a pigeon, he's also a Timneh (his name is Speakerboxxx)

  • that is a cute bird i have one just like it only smaller :)

  • Where did you come up with the name "Nixie"? I was just curious because we use that phrase in the postal service for undeliverable mail. My Congo African gray Jasper turned a year old this past July and although he started talking at about 6 months of age, at the one year mark, his vocabulary really increased. Lovely girl, your Nixie.
