  • Audix is more focused and controlled where as the the Shure sounds very loose and grainy. Maybe I'm biased because I religiously use an Audixi5 and I would die for that thing. Love your vids keep it up.

  • INteresting THanks ... both would sound nice together in the right placement, i am going to start using my i5 more.... even on cymbal ... has a nice full sound, Alway like a 57 and a TGx 50 together or a Cad ribbon ... will be trying to new PRA238MKII ... just nice and fat ... i like it.

  • These are the best mic comparison tests on the net....very informative and I now know where my next spending is going...on mics of all shapes and sizes....cool stuff!

  • Shure for sure ;)

  • Audix i5 clean at off center sounds GREAT! i5 has more body

  • Sm7B off-center kicks ass!

  • @matnrocknroll That it does!!

  • audix seems a bit hi-fi sounding, both im sure have their places in recording...

  • @jimsi I'm finding that the i5 is more of a mic that should be mixed with another mic for a better balance... can't wait to try it on a Snare though!

  • @CowcarMusic My i5 is the only snare mic I use. I started with the SM57 but the Audix has more body and high end, which I find great for a snare mic.

Never really cared for it on guitar amps, and I prefer the SM7b to the Audix in this shootout. However, for a snare mic, the i5 kicks ass.

  • i think these mics would work well together at different positions on distorted guitar, i didnt like the sm7b so much on the cleans. good video tho, i really enjoy these shootouts because i record primarily metal and that mesa has a badass tone for it, its given me good insight into a few mics i now plan on purchasing , keep it up!

  • @welkerstudios Thanks, I'm glad I could help out!

  • I've got the 421, 57, couple of i5's and an apex205. I'm considering getting the 7b. is there anything else in it's price range (or maybe in the $500 and under) price range that can compete with the 7b for heavy guitars?

  • @FastRedPonyCar hmmm... A lot of people like the E/V RE20, which is around $430 or so. I will eventually get that and probably a beyerdynamic M160... they are all around the $500 mark and do well with heavy guitars. from my experience I'd suggest the SM7B to pair with the 57!

  • I spy with my little eye... M-audio keyrig in the background of your studio ;)

  • @DavePlaysAJackson That is correct. I also have a review of sorts of the KeyRig on my page!

  • to death metal, i choose the audix, for rock n roll, old scholl riffs, i say the shure sm7b

  • @downhillernp Agreed! Opinions may change with EQ or other post production effects... but for sure the i5 picks up more growl (Bass)!

  • shure sm7b of course
