  • 07:01 - 07:47... The best tune EVER!! :D

  • Awesome ST

  • The music may sound primitive, but that's what make's it so good to listen to

  • @19Vexthehedgehog91

This era was pretty innovative, despite the limitations of 80s hardware, so I wouldn't personally call it "primitive."

Plus, what's not to love about 3 channels? The NES/Famicom versions of these tracks are remarkably less appealing.

  • Isn't the music a bit too fast?

But indeed, great compositions! I played the Intruder Alert on my keyboard at the time. Or at least how I interpreted it :)

  • @megalodonNL thats cause we europe used to play at PAL speed which is 50hz , in japan its 60hz which is faster and is also the default speed of the emulators :)

  • love the PSG sound, amazing what they got out of it compared to the more advanced ( but different ) FM chips like the SCC and FM PAC

  • theme of tara <3

the bass is soooo catchy... i'd consider to do a loop version of it :O

  • this make me wish to walk in a 8-bit image style...........

  • @xXxMartin96xXx I was thinking of that was even possible... Like to make some kind of googles to overlay everything we see as 8-bit like. Man, that would be sweet :)

  • @spartan132

how do you see porn, then? D:

  • @xXxMartin96xXx Think back to those old adult Atari games that were made. That's how I'd imagine it would be. lol

  • @spartan132

those games arent hot....ill preffer the hentai RPG of the 97 more or less

  • The only problem with the MSX version... no jungle theme. :(

  • love !!!!!!!

  • To anyone who thinks using GSXCC is 8-bit, it's not. This is, like, 12-bit music (even though that doesn't exist). It doesn't emulate the NES, it emulates this, the MSX. The instant sign that someone uses GXSCC are the flutey leads and the shitty drum sample, but apparently well-composed MSX music doesn't actually sound like that, and for that I am happy.

  • WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

  • Proof that sometimes; 3 channels is all you need =)

  • what is the MSX2?

  • @Wesley683 a "game console"... Google it

  • @DiegoFox4 Nope...It's a computer.

  • @SonGOKUSSJ6 Pwn'd! Nice work doing your research.

  • i cant get tired of the detected theme from the NES version

  • IT'S HAN SOLO!!!

  • @36MonkeysThatFly

No it's Kyle Reese from the first Terminator

  • lol i love to play Theme of Tara when playing MGS4 on I-pod and equiping Solid Snake PS1 face camo just makes it feel so damn nostalgic XDD

  • The musical notes are so precise and sharp. It feel like they are piercing into my ears.

  • Return of Fox Hounder is a really great piece of music. It never gets old.

  • Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom TA RAA!

  • i feel asleep!

  • wow ... even this one is cool ... :)

  • dun dun bom bom bom bom bom dun dun bom bom bom bom bom bom laaa laaaa laaaaaa dun dun laaaa laaaa laaaa epic music lol

  • konami should remake this game

  • true this game is a classic

  • Man, now I have to reconnect my MSX2... wait... why is it disconnected in the first place >:O

  • Haha, I remember playing Sneaking missions online on MGO1 to theme of tara, when I got caught it'd change to red alert... Good times...

  • Weren't these games 16-bit? If they were, they could have been put on the Super Nintendo! (if they weren't 16-bit, don't start a flame-war, it's just a thought)

  • @WeegeePerson 8-bit, which is why it appeared on the NES, instead of the SNES ;)

  • But the NES version is completely different from the MSX2 version in which you destroy metal gear. In the NES version you destroy a super-computer. Plus, the NES version has been known by many Metal Gear fans (like me) as a FAIL when compared to the MSX2 version.

  • Metal Gear skipped the 16 Bit generation.

  • @porcorosso81 It also skipped the 64-bit era.

  • @WeegeePerson

The problem with modern consoles is that you can't really define any "Bit-era" anymore. For example, the Playstation 2 MIPS R5000 processor is a 64 Bit CPU.

  • @porcorosso81 I know that, but I never said anything about modern consoles.

  • @WeegeePerson

The PS2, at least for me, is still a modern design. It was designed way after video game companies tried to brainwash kids with stupid bit slogans. So there was never a 64 Bit era to begin with. The N64 most certainly never started a new era in video gaming.

  • @porcorosso81 I also consider the PS2 a modern system, but we are actually IN the 64 bit era right now! PS3 and 360 use 64-bit CPUs, and so does every modern system! The only difference is that the newer systems have more RAM.

  • @WeegeePerson

Actually (and I know this, since I code on the PS3), the PS3 is a 128 Bit Vector architecture. All registers in the SPUs are 128 Bit.

You can't make generalisations on a broad variety of architectures and slap the "64 Bit" era sticker on it. If you say "the newer systems only have more RAM", then boy, you hardly know anything.

It was wrong even back then. The SNES, for example, barely passes as a 16 Bit console. The CPU actually has only an 8 Bit data bus, and probably ALU.

  • @porcorosso81 It won't be too surprising if future generations just refer to this as the "64-bit era" anyway because of some of the consoles and the increasing 64-bit adoption trend in PCs, if "seventh-generation" never really catches on or just seems too arbitrary.

  • @porcorosso81 That makes sense. The Genesis/Megadrive always seemed to have the edge especially early on. the only feature the SNES had that set it apart was mode 7. Graphically I have always thought the Genesis/Megadrive was superior. And the soundchip while not allowing for as full of a sound as the SNES was able to hit a larger range.

  • @porcorosso81 The n64 flopped by nintendo standards. Most of the market was controlled by sony at the close of it's lifespan. Nintendo got overconfident and paid the price. They took a ridiculous and unnecessary risk using cartridges for games of that console's size and it came back to get them. They are recovering finally after 10 years of console pwnage. The wii was the smartest idea they've had yet.

  • @Luigi84289 i have to admit, things tarted to cruble down with the N64. sadly.

  • @porcorosso81 Yeah that explains why the graphical jump wasn't as great as I and many others thought it would be. Basically the PS2 was just a souped up PS1. I think it's pointless in this day and age to invest in consoles. I'd rather be up to date and have the fastest system out there, my pc.

  • I love how Theme of Tara music Matches on the Metal Gear Online By Playing Stealth Match or Playing as Snake XD MGO FTW!

  • Operation N313: 00:00-00:10

    Theme Of Tara: 00:12-03:31

    Red Alert: 03:33-05:03

    Sneaking Mission: 05:05-06:15

    Mercenary: 06:17-06:59

    TX-55 Metal Gear: 07:01-07:47

Escape - Beyond Big Boss: 07:49-08:58

    Return Of Fox Hounder: 09:00-10:17

    Just Another Dead Soldier: 10:19-10:28

  • The Theme of Tara is also Metal Gear's theme in SNATCHER!

  • The truck can has started to Move?

  • I feel asleep.

  • I love the pounding bass on Theme of Tara. There's a definite percussive element there I think. Still, I guess you make the most of what you have =)

  • Which one of these is actually for the final boss itself?

  • Escape - Beyond Big Boss

    Awesome!

  • Awesome early Metal Gear soundtrack.

I got Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance, which re-released this game and it's sequal... it's bitter sweet to finally play them.

  • heyyyy it's VR Missions from MGS1 lol I thought I heard this on brawl from this

  • The Big Boss fight music is absolutely insane. My heart was racing when I got to that part of the game.

  • Man, I was looking for the original MSX MG Theme of Tara. Thank you so much.

  • Shootgunner!

  • Metal Gear (the machine) theme is so awesome!

  • The truck have started to Move!

  • UH UH OOOOOOOOH

    (punch to soldiers in MGS1)

  • i feel asleep

  • @smackacrackaddict Uh-Oh!

  • theme of tara is the same as MGS 2 VR missions lol

  • If anyone DARES say "The truck have started to Move!" needs to get punched or something.

  • let´s wait for snake rising... dunno what to expect at all

  • they should remake MG and MG2 i would love to see fox vs snake and boss vs snake fight redone in 3d

  • And with higher difficulty. Fighting MG-D and final duel with Big Boss was too easy.

  • @nofx4021 They should rerelease the originals too, just a release for those two with remakes.

  • i just relized some of the music is from the psx in VR traning mussions :D

  • Great music for a great game.

  • at 1:28 you get a slight hint of metal gear solid 2 ;)

  • thatloser88 , HOW do you get a "slight hint" of 'Metal Gear Solid 2' ?

  • i got this on nes

  • Umm..its NOT the same game.Completly different game with the same name and cover.

  • @Randysteele1992 Pretty much. Nes version is for toddlers compared to the original.

  • No you don't...

    Entirely different game!

  • Mercenary is my fave. Reminds me of the beat to Mustapha, my favourite song of all time, which is by Queen and was released about 9 - 10 years before this game.

  • I love these old 8bit soundtracks.

  • MERCENARY is my favorite track! Great video!

  • All the classic tracks from the granddaddy of all stealth games crammed into one video! Beautiful!

  • hahahahaha

  • How come Metal Gear for MSX used the weak PSG sound chip instead of the more powerful SCC sound chip?

  • is it me, or does the music sound faster than in the original? either way, the music kicks ass.

  • GREAT vid!

I hope this is not a stupid question, but why is the 2nd song called "Theme Of Tara"?

  • I read somewhere that Tara is not a name. Takenouchi would have called it this because the music starts off with a "taa-raa" sound.

  • In metal gear solid 4 when you find the ipod music.. he explains that the music with the taa-raa sound..... but it is called the theme of tara.

  • taa-raa is also how Kojima explained the music too him. You've got it right.

  • @oldskoolgamertje Yeah it says that In MGS4 I think on the ipod

  • @str0man2008 I believe it to be the Japanese onomatopeia for the drum. "Ta-ra, ta-ra, ta-ra, ta-ra", while Anglophone listeners may very well go "Da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da".

  • almost got all of these games only missing mgs 2 solidsnake for msx

  • konami games allwas had the best soundtracks.

    metal gear is no exception.

even snake's revenge has a excelent soundtrack.

  • What is the name of the track 7:00 (the one where you fight metal gear)

someone should perform it on a guitar, that would sound awesome!

  • The song is called TX-55 Metal Gear...

  • I wish "Sneaking Mission" could have been in the NES version. It sounds so simplistic and very similar to what the NES sound chip could produce.

  • thanks i've been looking for these for ages

    great game too.

  • I LOVE red alert, its so awesome and so is Metal Gear!

  • @xTasteMyScythe My favorite is Return of Fox Hounder. I can't get enough of that one. It's film quality. Like something you'd hear at the end of a really good action/spy film.

  • Operation Intrude N313 for the win!

    "This is Big Boss...

Penetrate enemy fortress Outer Heaven and destroy ultimate weapon Metal Gear!"

btw, if any1 intrested, i arranged mercenary and TX-55 Metal Gear on piano

  • Make a video of it, upload it to YouTube and put a video response here. I'd like to see it.

  • ok.

I've already uploaded it, i'll now put it to video response...

  • @Murukku47 Yeah this is still my favorite metal gear. The length is just right.

  • Red Alert sounds so epic...

  • i love the red alert theme! i would love to hear a re-arrange on guitar :)

  • haha yeah when i heard it i was inspired haha, so when i can find where to download it im gonna give it a go =D

  • omfg im such a retard and didnt read the info, lol

  • I FEEL ASLEEP

  • UH-OH! THE TRUCK HAVE STARTED TO MOVE!

  • I love thsi song so damn much from the NES, MGS1's VR, and Brawl. Playing the original MSX rom through MGS3S was a treat.

  • Thanks for the video. Excellent music that doesn't age.

  • sorry only now i see the info sorry lool ty

  • theres any way to download the red alert song but the original not remixes? if u know how please tell me i cant find any way to download that track

  • This Red Alert theme is so much better than the NES version's.

  • They use all the metal gear songs including these in metal gear online.

  • "Theme of Tara" is also available in MGS4 as a collectible music track for the in game iPod.

  • Yeah. And I just read somewhere that it is also a background track in Super Smash Bros Brawl. watch?v=FT--zwtXync

  • Apparently, this is the actual speed for "Theme of Tara". I wonder why on that MSX MG1 playthrough of yours, it was slowed down, along with the other tunes...

  • I have no idea what is the correct speed. But after the MG1 walkthrough I started playing at 110% emulation speed. Then, when matched with the separate music, the emulation seemed to be too fast... So I gave up getting it exactly right.

  • set your emulator bios/whatever from MSX2 to MSX2+, and speed 100-105%
