@megalodonNL thats cause we europe used to play at PAL speed which is 50hz , in japan its 60hz which is faster and is also the default speed of the emulators :)
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Metal Gear series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
@xXxMartin96xXx I was thinking of that was even possible... Like to make some kind of googles to overlay everything we see as 8-bit like. Man, that would be sweet :)
To anyone who thinks using GSXCC is 8-bit, it's not. This is, like, 12-bit music (even though that doesn't exist). It doesn't emulate the NES, it emulates this, the MSX. The instant sign that someone uses GXSCC are the flutey leads and the shitty drum sample, but apparently well-composed MSX music doesn't actually sound like that, and for that I am happy.
Weren't these games 16-bit? If they were, they could have been put on the Super Nintendo! (if they weren't 16-bit, don't start a flame-war, it's just a thought)
But the NES version is completely different from the MSX2 version in which you destroy metal gear. In the NES version you destroy a super-computer. Plus, the NES version has been known by many Metal Gear fans (like me) as a FAIL when compared to the MSX2 version.
The problem with modern consoles is that you can't really define any "Bit-era" anymore. For example, the Playstation 2 MIPS R5000 processor is a 64 Bit CPU.
The PS2, at least for me, is still a modern design. It was designed way after video game companies tried to brainwash kids with stupid bit slogans. So there was never a 64 Bit era to begin with. The N64 most certainly never started a new era in video gaming.
@porcorosso81 I also consider the PS2 a modern system, but we are actually IN the 64 bit era right now! PS3 and 360 use 64-bit CPUs, and so does every modern system! The only difference is that the newer systems have more RAM.
Actually (and I know this, since I code on the PS3), the PS3 is a 128 Bit Vector architecture. All registers in the SPUs are 128 Bit.
You can't make generalisations on a broad variety of architectures and slap the "64 Bit" era sticker on it. If you say "the newer systems only have more RAM", then boy, you hardly know anything.
It was wrong even back then. The SNES, for example, barely passes as a 16 Bit console. The CPU actually has only an 8 Bit data bus, and probably ALU.
@porcorosso81 It won't be too surprising if future generations just refer to this as the "64-bit era" anyway because of some of the consoles and the increasing 64-bit adoption trend in PCs, if "seventh-generation" never really catches on or just seems too arbitrary.
@porcorosso81 That makes sense. The Genesis/Megadrive always seemed to have the edge especially early on. the only feature the SNES had that set it apart was mode 7. Graphically I have always thought the Genesis/Megadrive was superior. And the soundchip while not allowing for as full of a sound as the SNES was able to hit a larger range.
@porcorosso81 The n64 flopped by nintendo standards. Most of the market was controlled by sony at the close of it's lifespan. Nintendo got overconfident and paid the price. They took a ridiculous and unnecessary risk using cartridges for games of that console's size and it came back to get them. They are recovering finally after 10 years of console pwnage. The wii was the smartest idea they've had yet.
@porcorosso81 Yeah that explains why the graphical jump wasn't as great as I and many others thought it would be. Basically the PS2 was just a souped up PS1. I think it's pointless in this day and age to invest in consoles. I'd rather be up to date and have the fastest system out there, my pc.
Mercenary is my fave. Reminds me of the beat to Mustapha, my favourite song of all time, which is by Queen and was released about 9 - 10 years before this game.
@str0man2008 I believe it to be the Japanese onomatopeia for the drum. "Ta-ra, ta-ra, ta-ra, ta-ra", while Anglophone listeners may very well go "Da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da".
@xTasteMyScythe My favorite is Return of Fox Hounder. I can't get enough of that one. It's film quality. Like something you'd hear at the end of a really good action/spy film.
Apparently, this is the actual speed for "Theme of Tara". I wonder why on that MSX MG1 playthrough of yours, it was slowed down, along with the other tunes...
I have no idea what is the correct speed. But after the MG1 walkthrough I started playing at 110% emulation speed. Then, when matched with the separate music, the emulation seemed to be too fast... So I gave up getting it exactly right.
07:01 - 07:47... The best tune EVER!! :D

The music may sound primitive, but that's what make's it so good to listen to
19Vexthehedgehog91 2 months ago
@19Vexthehedgehog91
This era was pretty innovative, despite the limitations of 80s hardware, so I wouldn't personally call it "primitive."
Plus, what's not to love about 3 channels? The NES/Famicom versions of these tracks are remarkably less appealing.
StudioSchade 1 month ago
Isn't the music a bit too fast?
But indeed, great compositions! I played the Intruder Alert on my keyboard at the time. Or at least how I interpreted it :)
