Hey, love your videos. I'm a new sub! So for safety in brown bear country. Would you use something like this 44 or is the Glock 20 a better choice? Or some other hand gun recommendation?
"gongs are always in season, 12 months a year" And then a dewgong waddles out from behind the trees. BOOOM! then rolls flipper over flipper down the hill "yee haw heh heh sweet sweet!"
I have an Old Model Blackhawk in .357 Magnum. It's tons of fun. The action on the old model is just like the Single Action Army: Half cock releases the cylinder, and the loading gate is just a hinge. Probably made before that lawsuit you talked about, because my uncle had it sent in during a recall Ruger did and the transfer bar was put in.
so what is the best barrel length for these?? I know that they come in 5.5" 7.5" and 10" I am wanting to buy one used and have found several for under $400 but am unsure which barrel length to get. I will be using it primarily for bear defense up here in Alaska. Any advise? Thanks.
@SimonBearSr02 If you're going to pack it around just in case, you had might as well save yourself as much weight as possible and get one in the shorter barrel lengths. They make the SBH in 4.6" as well, btw.
I just realized that you never pushed the base pin all the way back in at like 7:30 and then continued to fire it! Not that it's going to do damage but just saying! Love your videos hickock45!!!!!
I had a regular old non-super Redhawk with the scope ring cut outs. Dead nuts with a red dot as far as I could see. Sold it for the Blackhawk. I have come to love single action. Fun fun fun. Hotter the better.
I want one of these so badly! When I get one, I'll probably get it color case hardened with a good oversized finger grip- The .44 does NOT mess around! :P
@mw2rules1999 Deagle is a joke of a gun. More of a range curiosity than anything usable. This (the ruger) is something you can bet your life on and take to the ends of the earth.
1957. The first .44 magnum was the Ruger SUperBlackHawk. I am a regular veiwer, I was on here when you had 50 Subs as Sabbthmusic ; as long as a I behave myself and DO Not question why people think a piece of iron is sexy. I always wondered how much of it's internal emulated the Colt SAA. SO needless to say On a Colt SAA, you should leave the chamber under the hammer void of a cartridge, can we assume this?
@Doyouknowhowmuchusuc The main reason you leave one chamber empty in a Colt SAA is, because the Colts do not have what's called a hammer block. A hammer block is basically a piece of metal that is behind the firing pin that keeps the hammer from contacting the firing pin when it's not cocked. How it works is when the hammer is cocked or the trigger is pulled to cock the hammer on a double action revolver the hammer block moves down unblocking the firing pin. When the trigger resets it moves up.
@Weaponcollecter16 SO COWBOYS back in the old WEst had to carry like that if they wanted it too be safe eh? WHen Tuco in the Good the BAD and the ugly is in that gunshop, the owner mentions Colt, Remington and than 2 other off the wall names that aren't even around anymore. LIke P something.... I got to look at the movie with subtitles to research it. I just got my Ruger SUper BlackHawk....

I just got this gun for free (father died), don't know shit about it... so if i want to shoot it at a range (or woods) what steps do i need to take? I'm not sure if i am even old enough, i turn 20 next month. And should i even keep it in the house or what? i dont have a permit etc etc.
Question? I own afew different handguns but i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to good deals or trades. I have a Smith&Wesson Model 14 .38 special +P and a local pawnshop has a new Ruger .45 Blackhawk long colt. The Ruger is priced at $503.00 and they are willing to trade with me for $350 dollars boot. "Is this a good deal/trade or can i find better?"
@shootcentermass OH my god.....Just don't tell him not to call his Ruger Sexy, LOL. I heard he doesn't like that. Yea , it is a great channel, as far as funding, he is a millionare, did you think he won all these guns from U-Tube, LOL
This was my first hand gun. It's not the hunter version but the SBH new mod in .44mag with 7.5" barrel, It was quite a shock coming from a non hand gun owning family having never shot a hand gun to purchasing this at 21 (legal age in michigan to buy) and going to the indoor range and cutting loose. What an amazing gun.
@miximebuchi sorry thought you asked what they were. They look sick when fully expanded, I have never shot Talon ammo so wouldn't be able to say how much they tear up a living target.
@maximebuchi - talons were a type of ammo that got a bad rap from the media. The Winchester SXT (same eXact thing lol) is pretty close. Look up the story
Outstanding review. I had a 5.5 Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44, which I used for cowboy, using .44 Special loads. I have been considering picking up a new Hunter model in .44. I know and trust the Ruger Blackhawk single action mechanism and I think your detailed assessment might just push me to finally get one.
you need to do videos talking about the freedom arms handguns. You should shoot, talk about, and compare the single shot .357 with another high power caliber revolver by them and give your opinion on them!
Seems to shoot to the right for you, (as I am sure you know by now) Nice gun, had one of those back in the 80's, need to revisit that memory one day!! Great video, and thanks to the viewer whom let you borrow that for this video!

What a natural, I could tell you shot that gun before. I'm gonna go see a SASS range single action shoot this month after watching. Like that pig shooting. Something wrong with the lens folks, it gets all good again after that :)
hey hickok i was shooting 2 .45s the other day, a Gov't 1911 and a HK Mark23. with the Mark i was shooting low at like 15 yards almost everytime. with the 1911 only a few times. do you know how i could correct this? i am a new shooter with handguns cuz im only 17. anyone that has any ideas as to how to help me i would be very greatful to. thanks.
@smcombs100 Usually shooting low combined with a new shooter is caused by anticipating the recoil. Right before you pull the trigger you instinctively push down to counter the recoil of the gun that you know is about to happen. If this is the problem, try holding the sites on target while sloooooowly squeezing the trigger so it "suprises" you when it goes off.
@ImWatchinTheTube, I carry a 92FS while on duty, but for Pistol Qualification you need to shoot both Single and Double Action, Single Action is better for longer distances and Double better for shorter distances.
Also its not hard to conceal a full size hand gun, I carry a S&W M&P .40 when I'm not working, I don't wear it on the inside of the waist band, most people can't tell that I'm carrying
Hickcok, You've done several videos on caliber, like how a .357 mag gun can be loaded with .38 special. I was wondering if similar is true for a .44 magnum and another caliber, like .45 ACP or some other. Thanks!
@fox8989, Yes he does, in the earlier videos you can see him spray painting them, also you can see in earlier videos the targets were different colors
Excellent video. I have the same gun and plan to try deer hunting with it for the first time this year. Can you give us any detail on your lead reloads? I would like to start loading lead (I have always reloaded with jacketed bullets) to save costs, and I would like a mild practice round. Do you have any leading issues shooting .44 special in a .44 mag? A lead reloading video would be nice......
@ArtisanTony I have a Glock too. I have had it for a year and it has failed to feed 3 times. Each time it happens I realize that could be my ass If my life were depending on it. My S&W .357 j frame has never had a problem of any kind. I am seriously looking at the S&W tactical .357 Mag which shoots 8 rounds and has rails for optics and lasers/lights.
That's a new style gun with that feed gate. Our vintage Super Blackhawk goes into half-cock to free the cylinder, just like a Colt SAA. Also, from what I've read, the Ruger Blackhawk is THE ORIGINAL .44 Magnum, beating the S&W model 29 by a few months.
should i shoot this for my first powerful hand gun im 13???

I simply love my own SBH 7.5" SS handgun.
Mine is not a Hunter but, it is just as fun to shoot.
Feels real good when I carry it while Up North in the woods.
The Dragoon Trigger guard does NOT give me 'Knuckle-Smack' at all.
Plus I am fairly accurate with it. Even more so then my Ruger Single Six 22 caliber Convertible....Odd as that may sound.
I really want to get my hands on some heavier grain rounds. 300gr and up.
Even some TRUE .44 Specials would be nice. Not those Cowboy Action Rounds.

Saw one in my local gun store case. It looked at me with very sad eyes. It felt good in my hand, so I bought it.
I can one hand just as well as two hand it.

I can ring a 100 yard bell with open sights no problem.
Fun. Accurate. Reliable.

I think that 2nd watermelon was the most impressive watermelon shot to date!

i notice that all your targets appear new in every video do you you just take a can of black paint out and paint them after shooting?
fox8989 7 months ago
@fox8989, Yes he does, in the earlier videos you can see him spray painting them, also you can see in earlier videos the targets were different colors

The Super Blackhawk line are some of the coolest revolvers around, in my opinion.

Do you have a Carhartt sponsorship or something? You seem to be always wearing those shirts.

Hey hickock, when you can hit the gong from like 85 yards, why do you get so close to the messy stuff? Just curious.
TheChoada 7 months ago
That is a powerful gun.

how does that pistol grip feel? it looks so short. i feel like if i fired that gun (or any old colt style grip) it would fly out of my hand.

Got one of these with a red dot (can't remember brand name) in .45 colt... easily hits a 10 inch plate at 200 yards off hand. Love it.

I think this is probably the best looking revolver out there. Although, the python and smith 581 are beautiful as well.
buttnut1080 8 months ago
I have one of those in .41 Mag, great gun. I just started using it for silhouette shooting. Great video, keep it up!

hickok, I know a lot of the videos you do you use guns that are lent to you. I was wondering how many firearms you personally own.

I am still trying to warm up to revolvers.
ArtisanTony 8 months ago
@ArtisanTony They never fail to feed, and if there is ever a misfire you just pull the trigger again.
TheChoada 7 months ago
@TheChoada With 15 rounds in my Glock I can afford a few misfeeds :)
ArtisanTony 7 months ago
@ArtisanTony I have a Glock too. I have had it for a year and it has failed to feed 3 times. Each time it happens I realize that could be my ass If my life were depending on it. My S&W .357 j frame has never had a problem of any kind. I am seriously looking at the S&W tactical .357 Mag which shoots 8 rounds and has rails for optics and lasers/lights.

the summer of fun with Hickok45!
reavessname 8 months ago
That's a new style gun with that feed gate. Our vintage Super Blackhawk goes into half-cock to free the cylinder, just like a Colt SAA. Also, from what I've read, the Ruger Blackhawk is THE ORIGINAL .44 Magnum, beating the S&W model 29 by a few months.
stuntmanmike37 8 months ago
You better not be shooting any of those Black Talons! ;-)
