Terry Reid the most underrated artist of all time. but i can't help to wounder what led zeppelin would have been like if you did decided to take the lead singer role.
WAY too long an intro. And no Plant's "whole career," was not based on Terry's vocal style, excellent though it is. For everyone that says Plant is the inferior - recall that Terry can't touch Plant's range.
@coleenmccall This guy was supposed to be the original lead singer of Led Zep.... I think he turned the job down because he was touring with the Rolling Stones... funny that you noticed a similar sound... good ear.
continued: Some of us are out to win And some of us are out just to wane Just out to maim Oh we are what we are when we're praying In our own way of seeking some light May the mission bell still ring Of the colourful dreams In the faith that everyone will be treated right will be treated right on a cold cold night will be treated right hell, i hope that everybody will be treated right, yeah will be treat right on a cold, cold, cold, night will be treated right
Oh we are what we are when in danger And we are as we stand head in hand When a friend brings to light On a cold silver knife You can stare your fate right into his hand -into his hand Oh we are what we are when we're made to Be the soul-owning guardians of land And there's always advice On a cold winter's night That your dreams are just an island in the sands Way out in the sand Don't it seem so strange How it just don't change, yeah Things just stay the same As they've always been
I'm 50 and have followed Terry all my life, just met a beautiful young girl in her 20's about to have a baby and she saw the original Seed of memory album on my wall. NEVER have I met someone that knows him and loves him as I do. WOW
love this song got it on vinyl best sound don't even know why they made cd's iv got the original vinyl it does not skip sounds great you buy a cd one scratch and it ruins the whole thing bloody technology
this song has become a total fav...and if god forbid my father was to pass away...i see this a fitting song to play for him...raise a beer,,,and a lighter...freaking great song
This was my love song, for her and for me, and always remember her by this song, that night I never forgot, One part of me always gonna love you for far you are, just love you always
what a godly song! I listen to this when Im driving in austin texas or in the hills out in cali cause It makes them so much more beautiful and I know if I go off the side it would be a great song to die to.
@sns21274 ...you could have a guy (...or girl) that could make people get along with one hand and cure cancer with the other and there would still be "that" handful who would disagree!
mad song rob zombie did an awesome job really made you feel empathy for the supposed bad guys im sure alot of us would do it if there wasn't the fear of getting caught i know i would its good to see a movie where its not always a happy ending freebird also great:)
this guy is a legend im surprised not many people have heard of him did you guys know he was meant to be the lead singer of Led Zeppelin but he declined because he wanted to be in a band with his mates what a legend!!!
This song reminds me of my ex-boyfriend...he played it for me one night..and I fell deeper in love with him as I did everytime I just looked at him..music has always been so important to us..Baby...I love you...I miss you...
Man if I heard this back in 1973 when it first came out I can't imagine how much my mind would have been blown. I've only been listening to it religiously for about 5 years and I still can't get enough of it. Definitely brings me back in time.
Such lyrics come from the soul I love this song it´s goes not just into my ear it also effects my heart such beautiful lyrics Make everytime happy when i hear them great Artist he deserves to be called singer
I've cried so many tears to this song, reminiscing over lost friends, family and just the pain in this world. Terry really feels what we all feel...at least in his songs...
My favorite thing about Terry Reid is that when The Yardbirds became Zeppelin he couldn't join so he was like "Hey, why don't you get this kid that sounds almost like me anyway". Just funny to me.
glad to see terry reid getting all these hits. we saw him open for cream and the rolling stones. there was so good music then he never got his due respect then.
He was offered to be the voice of zeppelin and deep purple on separate occasions but chose to stay solo. This is , hands down, one of the most awsome songs that has ever been written. The 7 people who disliked this, simply put, are fuckin retarded and obviously don't know what good music is!
Thanks Bear! It still bugs me that I never remember hearing him at the time. I thought I knew all the greats. HUMPH! And I could have been listening to him for decades. . Oh well, now I know.

If you haven't heard Terry's recent stuff you owe it to yourself - he still sounds like himself even though he sounds understandably older - and fuck me dead if I'm a liar, he's sounding fucking incredible too.
@muddy2 No one can fault you for thinking Terry is as great as ever. Age happens, but this man is immortal. I hope to God he lives longer than me, because, i can't live without him.
he turned down jimmy page because of legal issues with his manager/label. he really got fucked and by the time it was settled, he lost his momentum and never made it to the status he should have had
Jimmy Page was looking at several different members than the ones that wound up being The New Yardbirds/ Led Zeppelin, basically headhunting for the best people. The lineup in his head was always changing because people were politely turning him down, or were unavailable. Yes Reid did suggest that Page check out Robert Plant, which of course meant the connection to John Bonham as result. But to say Terry Reid was almost the singer in Led Zeppelin is incorrect, he turned down the gig. Love Terry!
I too would not of had the pleasure of hearing this incredible artist without the help of Rob Zombie. What an amazing singer song writer. And what an amazing ending scene from The Devils Rejects with this song. WOW
One afternoon after a long day at work, I came home turned on the TV and promptly fell asleep. I woke up sometime later.. and this song was playing (I'd not seen The Devil's Rejects yet, and it came on whilst I slept). I lay there with my eyes closed, totally sbsorbed. It was without a doubt the best musical experience of my life.
WTF! Doesn't anyone else hear the obvious rip off of the opening, as it builds ,of this song by Terry (released in 1969 approx) and the AOR monster DITW by Kansas in the late 70's. Go ahead & "A B" them. Terry they owe you a nice check .AND an apology. As for the shitstorm, Kansas pp's.go ahead , there nothing I would like better than to prove it over over & over ....
@EKJunction I don't think it's close enough for a lawsuit, but I never noticed before that yeah, this song does have a very similar feel to Dust in the Wind. They may very well have ripped it off, although a lot of acoustic music in the early 70s had a feel like that.
@instereovideos Thanks ..anytime anyone get's a chance too see Terry LIVE-do so .Don't wait to say yeah he was something wasn't he....it's important to as James Taylor once sang "...shower the people that you love with love...' Peace
it's driving me insane. WHY?!? do people look back on old music and do the "should have, if, would have been" crap? it's the "never was" that adds to the beauty. how about we learn to look at music for what it is..... instead of pretending that something magical happens to it just because it is old. all we have is here and now. stop pretending that there and then is more important, because it is all relative. i dont care if this song came out yesterday by my mother. it's till good.
@ChayDawg64 A little added context if i may-.Lyrics as personal as these were a marked departure from the average pop song of my "greatest generation".parent's.One thought these things but never dared to voice them -in reality or in song.So this period ,for reasons too numerous, was revolutionary. In my early teens, did not want to acknowledge anything that went before my era, the"Now" was all that mattered. So it comes full circle-your time is now - move the signposts.Peace.
@ChayDawg64 If you're a musician /artist ? "Translate" this shit for the rest of us ! or create a new language. I don't want to come off like some Zen master WTB, but it is all within you.Remember what Chevy Chase said in Caddyshack ? "See ...the ball -Danny....BE ....the ball" ?
@ChayDawg64 Couldn't leave it as it is w/ out saying that you obviously appreciate this powerful, beautiful song from a long time ago One human's voice out of billions.Terry's.His passion is rooted in honesty -being "real'.I think that could be your clue.Peace
Terry Reid the most underrated artist of all time. but i can't help to wounder what led zeppelin would have been like if you did decided to take the lead singer role.

he turned down jimmy page because of legal issues with his manager/label. he really got fucked and by the time it was settled, he lost his momentum and never made it to the status he should have had

Back in the 70s I dismissed Rerry Reid as a nonentity that critics made too much of a fuss over. WHAT WAS I THINKING? This is wonderful.

it's driving me insane. WHY?!? do people look back on old music and do the "should have, if, would have been" crap? it's the "never was" that adds to the beauty. how about we learn to look at music for what it is..... instead of pretending that something magical happens to it just because it is old. all we have is here and now. stop pretending that there and then is more important, because it is all relative. i dont care if this song came out yesterday by my mother. it's till good.

@TumbrelJockey so what do i do?
ChayDawg64 1 year ago

Terry Reid was actually responsible for introducing Robert Plant to Jimmy Page. :)
