  • Any sources to find credible arguments on whether the jump shot should be allowed or not? I have to write a paper for WR121 class about an argument of my choosing. I thought jump shot would be great since there are great arguments from both sides. But I'm having trouble finding good sources. Any suggestions? If not, I'll pick something different.

  • @ProdigyKimXP

I'd recommend searching on the AZBilliards main online discussion forum or the Billiards Digest CCB online discussion forum. You should be able to find lots of opinions there.

You also might find the "jump shot" FAQ page on my website useful.

    Good luck,

    Dr. Dave

  • cool

  • I had some confusion with jump shots, I know to aim though the center of the ball but some say to aim directly though the center and others say to aim at it's resting point on the clothe. Which do you believe to be true?

  • I think aiming through the resting point makes jump shots a little easier. FYI, I have lots of jump shot technique advice in the FAQ section of my website (see the link in the video description).

  • OMFG YOUR A DOCTOR!

  • ... not a medical doctor ... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :)

Actually, I have a PhD (doctorate) in Engineering.

  • whats an illegal jump shot?

  • scooping under the ball with the tip.

  • ahk thanks (y)

  • any time.

  • fuuck billiard matrix

  • jump shots are very easy with a jump cue

  • Agreed, especially with a dart stroke.

The cue in the video is actually a regular playing cue.

  • Niceeeeeeeeeee!

  • Nice

  • i do this

  • i must say thats some crazy spin

  • That shot is so hard for me. I'm still doing the illegal jump-shot in casual games just because I can't do it yet.

  • It helps to have a "jump cue," which is shorter and lighter, with a phenolic (hard plastic) tip. You can also find more advice in my book and on my billiards website.

    Good luck,

    Dr. Dave

  • whoa, that looks really cool too!

  • Thanks for the video. It certainly helps with understanding of the physics of it. I've heard it explained, but it's much better seeing the video.

  • fake.

  • I assure you it is not fake. It was filmed with a special high-speed video camera, and the video was not edited.

  • Hello Dr.Dave. I'm sorry for the comments. My 8 year old brother was on my account. I am a professional billiards player myself, and know that such "moves" are truly possible. I also wanted to say that I love your videos and you should continue posting more!

  • Thanks for the clarification. I'll have to remember that trick the next time I post something I want to take back later ("My brother did it while I wasn't looking"). Just kidding :). Thanks again for your message.

    Dr. Dave

  • how did you make it so slow?

  • no faky...just skillz no doubt...love it

  • It's not fake . . . and it's a beautiful shot.

  • Why would it be fake? Jump shots are very common amongst professional and serious players.

  • How is this fake?

  • I assure you that it is not fake.

    Dr. Dave
