The pitch thing might not move because you need to select the track, even if you have you need to click on the track again, make it go a different colour.

Pitch not changing? the reason the pitch isn't changing is because your track is not edible. press (Control+Option+ G) and your track will change from orange to purple and it will easily be edible. Problem solved (;

I ran into the same issue, but if you use the AUPitch effect it works out just the same. This works in Garage Band 11!

HALLELUJAH!!!! I figured out how to do it!!! Its stupid tho....you have to make it a voice project, then record the song you want to do from your phone or whatever onto the mac, THEN you can change the pitch. I used On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez and it worked perfectly!!!!!

IN ORDER to move the slider you need to click the check box "Follow Tempo & Pitch ". Then itll move. This worked for me and i hope it works for you

To change pitch and tempo on garage band !!!!!

the sample you want to speed up, click off the track press ctrl alt option and g then click follow tempo and pitch if doesn't work and wont let you move slider click edit> add to loop library then find loop drag to project then you can now change tempo and pitch

If you have a 6.0+ version, after track is colored dark purple: 1) click "i" on bottom right (between hide/view loop & media browser buttons), 2) Right above those buttons, click "Edit" tab (next to Browse tab), 3) Put your cursor in space below the existing effects (when you do, the words "click here to add an effect" will appear), 4) From pop up menu, go down & select "AUPitch", 5) Double click (sun-looking) icon, 6) Slide "pitch" control.
