Often the most depressing comedies are the best ones. In fact, every sitcom I love is pretty depressing, Peep Show, Black Books, 15 Storeys High, The Office UK and so on. It's comedy that people can relate to because it's the real tough life with ups and mostly downs. For me, pretty much a depressed loser in real life, this kind of comedy is really comforting in a way.
@Gwenjane11 You realize that "Extras" was made years before "Flight of the Conchords," and "Flight of the Conchords" is partially inspired by David Bowie's music, right?
When I first watched this show I tought this was a light comedy with some bitter-sweet moments, but now I'm thinking: This show is fucking depressing. Often Funny, but fucking depressing
@matrat57 I don't know about depressing. I think it's a really well written comedy because it's not just some 2 dimensional fart joke kind of comedy. The writing kind of mixes between a comdey and a really good drama.
@lifewithconor I didn't say it was not good. this is actually my favorite serie (I even liked it more than the office personally, but still this is my personal taste) I'm just sayin I didnt tought it would be that much dramatic when I first watched it, and no I didn't expect fart jokes kind of comedy. I think the clip above nicely shows what I'm talking about: Bowie singing along with the whole pub about how much Gervais suck, in front of the guy who always wanted to make him feel like crap...
@matrat57 Sadly true. Satire is often cynical. It reflects the cruel ficklety of fame. As Elvis Costello once sang "Yesterday's news is tomorrows fish and chip paper".
@babidaboopy Ok, so because it's fictionnal it means we can't have any emotion related to it. Sorry, I didn't know I was supposed to watch it without any emotion and just enjoy seeing moving pictures. I correct my comment than: Show good. Image moving. Fun, dah. If you can'T enjoy a well scripted and well acted serie with truthful meanings and critic view on the television industrie and the struggling of friendship that comes with fame, than go watch barney the dinosaure and leave me alone.
@vipersquad .... Well sorry to break it to you, but Bowie is an inspiration to ALOT of people (obviously not you though). You're right- he can't be compared to those people because his style is completely different. So I wouldn't be effing talking, man. Why don't you go die in a hole so no one has to listen to you insult a great man with GROUNDBREAKING music, you moron!?!?!?
@CheetahLuver12 Yes he is an inspiration to alot of people, but yes he CAN be compared to those people because they are all musicians. if you analze these musicians, there's no comparison. Mathimatically speaking - it's addition compared to trigonometry. Bowie's good at what he does, but it's still child's play.
@JohnnnyButtons whatever, johnny. his music is NOT child's play. and no, he can't be compared to anyone else. he is his own person. and so are those other people. at the time i was being ignorant, i admit it. but really, no one should be compared to one another, unless he/she had a famous sibling that had similar work. sorry i was being an ass hole, i was in a really crappy mood that day.
icon works as a term. Bowie has a real persona that appeals to many people. As a songwriter/musician I don;t agree that the merits of music are subjective. Believe it or not, music has many laws like science. Whether an individual LIKES the music yes is totally subjective. @vipersquad you are completely correct here. Bowie works with just the basics when it comes to music, but 99% of people here will never understand this unfortunetely.

In which case we are talking about what accolade best describes his talent and how best to express his achievements as a musical performer and entertainer Personally I consider Bowie an icon and feel he is right up there with the best.
As for the power and technical merit of his music that is surely subjective but the way he has reinvented himself and his music is worthy of respect.
I think you have to levee some of the genius of comedy here in the situation portrayed at the end of this episode when AM rejected by those of his peers seeks the adoration of the idiots at the pub he thought previously too good for, yes they were idiots but they loved him, no critique, no back stabbing, they gave him the reasons to write, unconditional, simple, now we are the idiots in the youtube public bar quoting lines from the real show, life imitating art, i love you Ricky.

He's just been writing verse-chorus-verse-chorus-verse-chorus for 35 years. The praise for his "reinventions" are due to changes to his fashion and the technology of his music, not to the actual structure of his music.
