It's just amazing what a person who was 17 in 1962 went from Roy Orbison, The Platters and Chubby Checker to being 27 and listening to this lyrics in 1972! It's like 30 years happened "musically" in only 10, just amazing.
@felixsainz36 Britain in the late 70s was bleak prospects, Britain was under daily audit from the IMF; currency controls prevented anyone from taking more than a few hundred pounds out of the country; and in the “winter of discontent”, the garbage collectors, undertakers, transport workers and electric utility unions had all been on strike. Mountains of garbage everywhere. Produced two things: punk rock and Margaret Thatcher.

@Hellishcrusade Dude this was the English punk era these guys were so bothered about their country they raised it issues at the time with a new aggressive sound which shocked Britain into changing learn your stuff before you troll.
Rotten's voice, look and attitude is incredible, glen is a bass god even though sid gave them the look and spirit more and Steve is terrific with his thunders-like movements and stances. i love how chairs are being tossed around and he's just kicking them completely aside and avoiding everything being knocked over. great band! Defiantly a historic recording!
so glad this band is not together this fucking song sounds like a huge peice of shut live lol Motley crue cover the damn song it sounds millions of times better even metallica would make a better cover version then original.
I remember being in Hyde Park when they played. Just released God Save the Queen. The police that night were everywhere, you'd have thought it was an invasion. It was also very apparent that the police were on edge, a bit nervous, as we would say in London, cacking it. I have never seen a rock act do that to the establishment before or since. These guys took no prisoners...ever since them the record industry has put a firm lid on that sort of approach. Today we have X factor or American Idol!
@skinwalkerxxx.Sid Vicious (died Friday 2 February 1979) was at that time in the audience probably pogo-ing to this song.He replaced the bass player Glen Matlock around the end of February 1977 roughly six months after this video was recorded.IMHO hiring Sid and the quitting of Glen ultimately was the Sex Pistols biggest mistake they ever made, even Steve Jones the lead guitarist who would later swear on live TV in December 1976 admitted this.
@markfletcher760 Totally agree that hiring Sid was the beginning of the end but without Sid they never would have really gelled as the Pistols. I think it's consistent with what they stand for (to me, anyway) that they only achieved the purest form of Pistolness once they became a band that was obviously self-destructing from the moment Sid got on board. That's why the US tour was so awesome. And really, they did what they needed to do on Never Mind.....
@thecatkeaton ok? so "punk" is a genre full of shitty music that doesnt sound good and a bunch of fans who think theyre hip cuz they say they like music everyone knows sounds horrible
@Thatpartydude thats punk dumbass its not about being good or popularity its about the message and the message is fuck you music shouldnt have to be a bunch of technical bullshit and its also about how the system not just in the u.k but in the u.s is a fucking worthless bullshit lie
If the last ten years of music had been nothing but make up and 30 minute solo's, a neo-nazi party called the National Front were about to take over, there had been a two year long garbage strike where the streets were pakced with disgusting waste, this would be the only music you would want to hear, the musicians would be on your side.

Only recently they rejected their acceptance into the US R&R Hall of Fame with a valid political letter. Everyone else plays the game without criticising it.
@FreddPepper If you listen to Steve Jones (on his own radio show) interviewing Richard Hell you will hear them admire bands like Stones & Sonics, acknowledging no one artist was a pioneer of punk because you could credit the first cavemen that banged two rocks together. Jones accepts Pistols were in the right place in the right time and were lucky things fell together. I encourage all Pistols fans to hear that sobering interview where dewey eyed documentaries are admonished.
