Sorry... Joe Walsh did not play on this song, nor on the album Phoenix. Joe Walsh produced Dan Fogelberg's album Souvenirs, and played on that album. Dan did give Joe Walsh thanks for his "moosical" help, but what he was referring to is that Joe did help Dan become a better guitar player. Obviously, by this time and the Phoenix album, Dan is regarded as one of the best guitar players ever.
A lot of people think Walsh played lead on this, certainly the influence is obvious. But Dan was a gifted guitarist and Walsh thought "Face The Fire" one of Fogelberg's greatest performances.
Immortal song, but I wonder if ol' Dan would still be so anti Nuke if he were here today?
Ya know what? I once heard this song on the radio with my girlfriend, and the DJ attributed the lead playing to Joe Walsh, and we were both blown away, thinking Dan had been lucky to have Joe rip through what we both thought was even phenomenal for him. And I've studied the LP jacket thoroughly after that and I was surprised that Walsh wasn't credited. I just watched another version of this song posted here and the quality prevented me from seeing who or what was playing the lead. (cont.)
I just wanna say that I have a newfound respect for Dan Fogelberg. Like I said, my girlfriend and I were in awe when we thought it was Joe Walsh, who most people know is a guitar god, if there ever was one, but I am totally flummoxed. I'm really glad I now know that one of the all-time great guitar breaks was done by someone most people consider a mellow, sentimental, but very talented kind of guy. I guess the phrase "incredibly versatile" should be added to what I consider 2B his attributes.
Another one of my favorites by Dan. Outstanding emotion behind these words.Such a great song with a cause. Still need to have this song played for all gernerattions because man does not change his self-destructive ways of greed over the right thing to do as we see these days. Thanks for posting a great artist speaking the truth.
Wow, this really takes me back. My wife and I saw DF at the Universal Ampitheatre on the Phoenix tour. A whole generation has gone by since the 'No Nukes' days and their powerful DF anthem. We are a nation of amnesiacs. A legacy in it's own right. Thanks for posting this.
Classic Dan Fogleburg.

The coolest part of the solo is when he switches modes at 4:36, although that final flurry shows he's got some speed, too. You can't turn away-y-y!

Most know him as a mellow troubador, but one of the best lead guitarists. Thanks for a piece of proof.,

Bear in mind that Dan was recruited to be in the Eagles to take the spot now occupied by Joe Walsh.

WOW. if you think this is his best you haven't heard them all.
What about Phoenix, Longer, Leader of the Band, Same Auld Lang syne, Power of Gold... Too many others to mention.

Wait, the bad quality version is actually this one. I wrote that endless, rambling bunch of crap in the wrong comment section. Who reads 'em, anyway?

Many of his songs were done 100% by him in the studio (except percussion).
