  • I was there in the stands in turn one... The camaro landed in a tree on the othe side of the fence. Me and my brother were fist pumping in front of that car no more than 20 min. before this happend! I didn,t know what happend. Dust and noise is all i heard and saw.(NASCAR WAS LOUDER!) I was at the nascar race that night and it had a incredible ending.# green white checerds and leader pushing on last lap... it took a good 20 min for the reviews and rules to be put together to make the winer...

  • I saw this live

  • I'm personal friends with the owner of the team of Schaldach, and the reason he "locked" them up was because of the rear caliper of the car breaking and in turn locking up the brakes. Then while rear ending the mazda of Foster the impact pinned the throttle body WIDE the fuck open and that's why he hit the wall at 160mph. So please anyone talking shit please check yourself before just looking like a fucking idiot.

  • haha..american cars

  • @Elavics You have no idea what your talking about.

  • OMG !! IS THE CAMARO OK ?

  • Hey! thats how i race on need for speed!

  • good thing all the drivers in that crash were ok and that gravel trap did not work at all it looked like it made the cars go faster once it hit the gravel trap.and can someone tell me if road america fixed the catch fense douring this race or after the race before the nascar nationwide series race

  • Bumble Bees red cousin transformed and took off after he heard the deceptions were back

  • AUTOBOTS ROLL OUT!!!

  • Joe Foster driver of the Mazda was having some pains from an earlier accident and got a neck brace at the hospital, but is okay

  • Let's take a lesson from the runaway truck ramps we see on the highways up in the mountains and build a very gradual incline that leads into a 90-degree wall at the end of straight-aways. Safest preventative measure I can think of IMO.

  • @krayzeejojo Maybe. I've heard people say sand traps have outlasted their time. While yes, that maybe true for these cars, they had a Nationwide series race at this track that same day, and several cars got stuck in the sand traps. So yes, these cars maybe able to go right through the traps, NASCAR race cars cannot go through these like that. So it depends on the series that is racing.

  • can anyone tell me if the mazda driver was ok? i was watching this on tv and i stopped watching when the caution continued.....sooooo was he?

  • @Elavics

These cars have nothing in common with the road cars other than body shape.

  • The throttle stuck open.

  • This is about as lame as lame can be. Not spectacular or athletic.

  • That used to be a tree line / rock fence....then after AJ Foyt crashed into it in 1990 and broke his legs, the area was cleared into what it is today. Foyt sailed off the mile long straight at nearly 190 mph and flew over the sand trap to land in a dirt embankment. The impact shattered his legs.

  • this is what happens when you use camaros for road racing. Stick to your silly 1/4 miles.

  • @hendeeze Funny.... Camaros have won several races this season. Your an ignorant BMW fan I presume? By the way a corvette won this race ;).

  • its truly amazing how safe these vehicles have become, thank god for technology!

  • Yikes, shades of Lee Petty and Johnny Beauchamp there!

  • Glad both drivers are ok!!

  • I'm sure all the American car haters would be crying "the guy can't drive" it it were any other make of car.

  • Hung Throttle

  • Should(nt) have bought Ah-Murrrrrrrrrican

  • 1:50 those brakes just burned up like shit! Pretty freaky crash indeed!

  • @chokac1 Thats's pretty funny since an american car won the race!

  • @chokac1 what a truly stupid statement, considering they are running the same breaks as your favorite car on the track. facepalm

  • @chokac1 your statement clearly indicates following: you're naive, you're young, you probably can't drive and you have never owned an american car....

  • lolcantturn

  • @umom7 Some basic race driving dynamics: If you can't slow down enough to load the front tires, you can't steer. Also as soon as he hit the sand trap, there was NOTHING he could do. Go back to your video games.

  • I can't believe they showed a replay as soon as they did. Normally broadcasters wait after a spectacular crash like that because if the driver doesn't survive it's considered really poor taste.

  • @mustang6172 The Mazda driver was moving in his car, and the marshals gave the thumbs up signal for the Camaro driver who went over the fence. It was evident that neither driver suffered any serious injuries.

  • @mustang6172

One of the safety crew gave the thumbs up to indicate he was OK before they showed a replay

  • He did a Villeneuve!

  • @inasafeplace LMAO

  • brakes seem to work fine he just didnt hit them until way tooooo late.

  • Amazing accident! wow!

  • Hope Joe is okay... That was definitely a scary crash.

  • WEll the sand traps CERTAINLY did a good job in slowing those boys down. NOT.

  • @combatking20 Imagine that area covered in tarmac and the same thing happens.

  • I was that Photographer!! And yes... It was amazing!! I never stopped shooting but with a 500mm lens I got all I could til the Camaro went OVER the fence!!

Awesome snaps man! That's one you'll NEVER forget nor stop talking about!

  • @RaceShotsResource

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @RaceShotsResource Balls of Titanium

  • @RaceShotsResource you must have been the guy right next to my brother

  • @RaceShotsResource you must have been the guy right next to my brother

  • @RaceShotsResource so why didn't you go and help him?

  • @StreetSurfer136 Because I was yelling to Gunter to relay the message to the corner workers that he was Okay. One of the other Photogs that was standing with me, ran down the hill and was there. I have posted a video on our RaceShotsResource page with the pics of Gunter getting out of the Camaro. With no tv angle of the accident past the track there was no way to relay info to the Officials other than standing in the place where I was.

  • Bet those photographer had a "Oh Crap" moment - after getting the money shot of course! Hope Joe is ok...

  • Comment removed

  • typical GM product..... lousy brakes......

  • thats what happens when ur brakes go out !!!!

  • Holy crap!

What if that was a IndyCar?! O_o

  • I cannot believe that the photographers just stood there and watched!! They did nothing! - not even flagging to the corner workers/marshals that the car had gone over the fence!!

  • @thunderbelmont I think it would have been fairly obvious to corner workers/marshals that the car had in fact gone over the fence... It's kind of something that's hard to miss...

  • This is what happens, when you just stack the tires over each other instead of joining them together and adding a tubular insert to form an elastic wall.

  • @colintamiya

elastic walls are softer to hit

  • @colintamiya That would crush a car if is was going so fast it could go through the stack of tires.

  • Damn that was a hard hit!!!!
