  • shes scottish mate, lovely lassies. No stars collide when galaxies collide thats even more amazing than scottish lassies.

  • the way she says universe is sooo sexy. . .

  • And this is what it's like when worlds collide... watch?v=lsV500W4BHU

  • SO what you're saying is...

    DOCTOR WHO IS REAL?

  • I thought a supernova was the most powerfull event in space..

  • @skumii wooooooooooohhhhh, not even close. just one black hole has more energy than a supernova im pretty sure.

  • thats alot of energy...

  • so for how many years is this collision spread on ?are we talking about thousands of years or less ? or more ?

  • @haroos Much, much more.

  • @haroos the black hole collision time scale of what was shown in the video i would sya is about 100 years, or less.

  • @haroos i think hundreds of thousands...

  • I can't understand a single thing she's saying.

  • @MsPinkPrincess6 You just made your country sound ignorant.

  • What happens when somebody eats a lot of beans???...Exactly! He sets up a brown hole in his toilet.

  • how did i end up here from epic javelin fail? O_o

  • @TeqzoHD lol

  • i still dont get how it changes time but oh well

  • Comment removed

  • @Joey00000p it curves the galaxy a bit making to go closer, search for space time for more info

  • space....and....time?? doctor who??? :3

  • galaxy porn?

  • @redbut298 Your account is gay looking your ass is red so you had a dick in it for an hour & your mom sucked her own vagina.

  • Gravity waves. Awesome .

  • That ripple better hurry up and reach earth, I need an extra hour to get this essay done!

  • More energy than all the stars in the universe combined? Beyond me, I'm in well deserved awe.

  • What does she mean by 'space/time'?

  • @ragnarox16 spacetime is a mathimatical model that combines the 3 space dimensions with time, wich creates a 4th dimension. You can find more information on wikipedia under spacetime ;-)

  • @ragnarox16: Space-time is a complete 4-coordinate system to find anything in the universe: length-breadth-height-time. Say you want to meet someone for lunch on the highest observation deck of the Empire State Building: the complete coordinates are 40°44′54.36″North-73°59′08.36″West-102ndFloor-11:30AM. The problem with black holes is that they mess up this 4-coordinate system.

  • Uh?

  • Uh sorry but you're gay, newscientistvideo.

  • @halomaster22323 I hope you know that you're just a dickhead that doesn't care about anything.

  • I don't get how these gravitational waves can "bend" time.

  • got to love galactic porn!!! :D

  • i thought she was speaking russian

  • GIYGAS!!!!!!

  • you cant call black hole its African universe hole, all right !

  • i hate that fucking accent

  • @h4rdstyl3r1337 you're gay

  • @Adventistify ur mom

  • @h4rdstyl3r1337 i hate your accent too but fuckit. you sound like you come right out of a comic book

  • I don't understand why the hell is there gravity?I mean energy is never lost it's only distorted or converted right? So then what is the primary source of gravity? What feeds and provides energy for gravity?

  • @XxAssasainXx Apples and oranges.

  • galaxies collide because they get tired of being all alone in space, and they want to hug.they long to feel the touch of their galactic partner.

    it's the ultimate mating ritual.a union,a destruction,a rebirth

[the violent mixing of molecular gas and dust from a galactic merger often results in star formation.i suspect short-lived blue giants].

  • huh so if it causes fluxuations in space time how wuld it effect us if one of those waves where to reach out to our galaxy if we happened to be close enuf in proximity to a collision?

  • @7mqqnshlne92 They do reach us all the time, gravity propagates infinitely. But they're too weak by then (unfortunately to even detect, so far).

  • its not black hole! its african american hole!

  • the center of the milky way is a black hole

  • what would happen if you went in a black hole

  • @Ki3rann your body would get crushed into the size of an atom probably

  • @Ki3rann not for certain, either your body rips apart, either time stops, travel back/forward in time, idk, black holes are so powerful they can even consume light!

    nobody knows for certain.

  • @guitarfreaky1996 But oddly enough, no one has lived to tell the tale.... ;)

  • @GerbilEssences Even more oddly, black holes are only a theory and people take them as seriously as if they were stars...

  • @guitarfreaky1996 black holes suck ;)

  • Their energy level is OVER 9000!!!!

  • you know what? YOU AND I, COLLIDE.

  • @neogaiden lollololol

  • Scottish accent. Toooooooooooo Sexy!~

  • Beautiful voice, love the lady voices of the UK.

  • @dblemn She's Scottish :-)

  • @dblemn Scotland to be precise!

    A very nice accent :)

  • @dblemn hey in from england you mother retard

  • @dblemn uhm its irish or scotish wow RACIST

  • @skimowhite586 Are you fucking kidding? lmfao. Both Scotland and Ireland are part of the United Kingdom.

  • theese are not galaxies on this clip, but black holes -.-

galaxies collision might look different, and there is another animation for this.

  • At the centre of every galaxy there is a black hole. That's what the stars which make up a galaxy rotate around, just like planets rotate around a star in a solar system.

  • It is all just a supposition... But i am aware that it is very possible that the centre of a galaxy is black hole. Anyway it is quite a difference between colliding of a two single black holes and two galaxies. ...still, In my opinion, this title does not suit the video.

  • it's not a supposition, black holes emit x-ray radiations, so Hubble was able to detect the super-massive black hole in the center of our own galaxy

  • There are black holes in every galaxy

  • @Extreke i dont know that, u dont know that, y'd u say it?

  • @Extreke majority of galaxies smaller ones dont have one

  • god and jezus are fake lol

  • space cambaned

  • man, what would those aliens think of us being destroyed?

maybe they'd post it on youtube like this.

  • lol

  • I wonder how many other galaxies with intelligent life is experiencing this right now... =O

  • wow our galaxy will run into andromeda.. thats crazy.. although it is in 2billion years.

  • lets just hope mankind is advanced enough to travel to other galaxies by then.. and spread our seeds throughout the universe..

  • hey if we can abolish religion, it's definitely a possibility!!

  • I love your accent!!!

  • if that happend isnt there the possabiltiy that one black hole could eat the weeker one?

  • dumb how could 2 black holes be stronger than all the stars in the universe all the stars in the universe combine wil be like 3 times bigger than that because the universe never stops and the billions and billions of stars and i wonder wiil any thing or anyone could tell if the universe is berly likw a small particle of a thing much bigger than that we may never know ???!!!

  • stars are just fire, black holes control, form, and maintain entire galaxys. 1 black hole could take on most stars, 2 would be unstoppable by any means.

  • size doesn't matter when you are talking about black holes, a black hole would squish our sun to the size of a marvel and it will remain just as heavy. it's said that the (entire universe) was much smaller than one atom before the big bang. it had almost cero size, smaller than anything you could imagine. Yet everything came from there. That's I bealive in god because I need faith in orther to bealive in this crazy universe.

  • also it doesent matter about any of this the serisue flaw with the big bang theory is....

how the hell did any of that stuff ever get created

you cant creat anything out of nothing

  • Mc Gyver can :)

  • exactly. the one fact science has never been able to explain. Even if they say we started by a single molecule..........where did that molecule come from?

  • thats why i alugh at ethiests, they think they are smart by not beleiving in god , but they have no profe for any of there theories at all(avarage ethiest)

    its hillariuse

  • There needs to be a day where science can be loved and appreciated even by the believer in a higher power. Why cant there be both? Obviously we need science to know the nature of things.....but we couldnt just appear out of thin air...or some miraculous bang. If facts are what we are talking about...wheres the facts in that exactly? Touche dude-right there with you.

  • Same thing as Christianity...Christians don't have proof either, just beleifes

  • Comment removed

  • there's no proof in god either, and we do see proof of naturally occurring science all the time in any reaction or movement of particles

    by the way nice spelling:

    laugh*

    atheist*

    believing*

    average*

    hilarious*

  • it was jesus

  • how did god create everything out of nothing? when did god begin to exist? how did god start to exist?

  • @frogmarch100 such a shameless cop-out.

  • ad then it was like... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Scotish

  • i didnt know such a thing as black holes colliding could happen...

  • The narrartor is Scotish.

  • Every fucking video title from New Scientist is misleading. Good video though. Thank god they got a better voice for the narration.

  • CombEINED

    UnivEURSE

    WEUVES

  • heh.. she said "universe"..

  • this is when black holes collide, not galaxies....lol

  • There are supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies. Even our own milkyway galaxy has one. Soo... It kind of implies galaxies as well.

  • Ignore that idiot... I think you mis-interpreted the concept, it IS galaxies colliding, can't be bothered to explain it right now soo... ^^

  • Screw it... I'll just say a galaxy needs a supermassive black hole in the centre to be considered a galaxy

  • same. there is a black hole in every galaxy.

  • I'm gunna be the one that's taking over...

    lol

  • Bullshit. Total ignorance from scientists. Galaxies will never shock each other. There are trilions of trillions of human beings inside them all. And living Gods rule their movements. Pride and ignorance is fatal for mankind.

  • If the Milky Way black hole, and the Andromeda black hole collided, all the sars in both galaxies would probably be destroyed.

  • wow. physics. this is pointless. if i lived forever, maybe this would be like a marker on my calender, but i DON'T. ah, it's interesting none the less.

  • You may not live forever, but there is the possibility of our race living until this event occurs. It's good to figure out what happens just in case we do and we need to figure out how to escape/stop it.

  • i DON'T THINK HUMAN RACE WILL LIVE VERY LONG WE ARE LIKE PARASITES THE ONLY CREATURE THAT DON'T DO ANY GOOD FOR THE PLANET IF WE GO NO ONE WILL MISS US I GUESS

  • That's a rather sad point of view that a lot of people seem to hold. Sure, we've made mistakes, but I really do feel like we can change if we need to.

  • i agree. we have actually screwed up this planet

  • in 2 billion years time, the human race will have evolved into several completely different and unrecognizable species.

  • Or maybe in two thousand years (global warm, etc) we may not even exist.

  • Your an idiot. Global Warming wont kill us. Honestly we have a much better chance of killing ourselves off. Global warming wont end the human race. I hate you.

  • oh man, ususally i lqtm when people spat online, your comment was so god damned funny tho, haha

    i hate you, oh you...

  • or will simply be extinct

  • in about 3 billion years the milky way galaxy and the galaxy next to us will collide

  • Yeah, pretty much everything we do doesnt have any value, there will be no humans, in 100K years.

  • No, the galaxys are moving apart, not together. Because of the big bang, galaxies are moving apart. Read a science book.

  • Comment removed

  • are we die then?

  • chuck norris jokes are som plaid out

  • Chuck norris wouldn't allowd this to happen

  • queston: what will happen when galaxies collide

    answer:erm..that?

  • some galaxies pass right though each other, other collide and either merge a single bigger galaxy or break off into smaller galaxies. But this doesnt produce NEARLY as much energy as 2 black holes colliding.

  • i love that dialect.. woooh damn:-D

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Them mergers could kill us couldn't they?

  • do u think humanity will still be around after 2billion years?

  • I'm an optimist.

  • I don't consider that very optimistic, time to move on, man;)

  • no. I think we we have killed ourselves off...lol oh well bring on the chocolate!

  • Accent.

  • What dumbass named this video?

It has nothing to do with colliding galaxies.

    fucking dumbass uploader.

  • Well it kind of does...I mean, it's talking about the black holes at the centres of both our galaxy, and Andromeda. So I guess it can be a little off, but no need to get angry :).

  • reminds me of that Muse song, Super massive blackhole

  • would earth be affected since this collision is so large we would not even know it was going on

  • It depends how far it is.

  • I couldnt even imagin the Energy release they would give as they come to a tight binary orbit. Let alone the scale of the Gamma ray burst it would release apon collision

  • since black holes are objects that consume everything around it, shouldnt these two black holes consume eachother until there wouldnt be anything left of them?

  • Black holes don't 'eat' things, they draw them into themselves, like when a meteor hits a planet it doesn't just pop out of existence, the matter from the meteor adds to the planets mass.

Think of it like two glasses of water, if I pour the contents of one into the other, what I'm left with is a bigger, single glass of water.

  • no because andromeda has more mass a gravity than the milkyway, theirfore its gravity wpoul either sling shot the earth out into dark space or the black hole from andromeda will tear earth apart. superman65

  • mmk, I get the black holes and gravitational waves and such, but what exactly the the ripples do to the time? slow it? speed it? ?? please tell me, I feel like an idiot asking this but I just don't get the ripples thing.

  • Higher gravity = slower time.

  • I knew that.. I just.. didn't think of it ... at the time... s-s-shut up

  • This "Galactic collision" apparently occurs around the same time our sun fizzles out(bit like a doomsday) there are three suppossed endings to the universe:1. the universe collapses back in on its self like an implosion

    2. the force opposite to gravity("dark energy") rips everything apart into its atoms

3.the universe goes to a very very low temprature (i don't know for sure but somewhere near sub-zero i think)anyway thats what i know, don't call me stupid or anything, just what i've read.

  • the collision won't happen when the sun fizzles out. sun fizzles out in 5 billion years and the collision happens in 3 billoin

  • in 2 billion years who cares

  • Wouldn't they need incredibly sensitive instruments to detect those waves, though?

  • when our milkyway merges with the other gallexywill the black hole eat the stars coming in atd will the ripple of the two black holes cause damnage by combining

  • would be cool to somehow harness energy from gravitational waves

  • I wonder if it would be possible to harvest such events for energy?

  • In 2 billion years u have got to be kidding me Ill be freaking dead and Judgment day will probaly happen before that anyways.

  • its black hole because the have a black

  • its black holes, not galaxies.....

    anyways,Great Video dude

  • i kno but look at all the other shit people say thats gonna happen it'll be important to people living in the 21st billion century whatever good vid HAPPY NEW YEAR

  • but hey if any of this shit happens ill just be glad that we all wont be around when it does happen...think about it all these people can say the world is coming to an end but i assure you that 99.9% of those people can forget about when they remember they said "it'll PROBABLY happen in BILLIONS of years later"

  • here's my theory: in the billions of years to come when our sun explodes, the earth will be redirected into deep space by the explosion and warp into a new galaxy when the milky way collides into another galaxy-the effect of it being submerged into one black hole. there's a chance we could survive but there would be little life on earth left and well basically ALMOST EVERYTHING will be destroyed

  • first, sun won't explode b4 collision.

second, earth will get too hot, and we've got to go to mars then i agree everything left

  • The sun isnt going to explode. Its most likely going to turn into a red giant (destroying earth) then into a white dwarf (like tons of other stars) Then fizzle into a brown dwarf.

  • But dude, stars MUST explode to turn into giants. Thats what will happen. The sun collapses under its own gravity, and starts fusing helium instead of hydrogen and BANG! Explosion. And WOO! Theres a giant red ball in the sky! It will not eat Earth at first, but it will expand and eventually swallowing it. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will die. Only Pluto will be colonizable, because there will be much more heat.

  • you must be from the states lol. go back to school

not sure you got a single thing right.

  • Well, you got the idea right, but there will not be an explosion. The sun will expand because of the fusion of heavier elements, like helium, instead of hydrogen, then once burned out, it collapses. No bang, just a whimper.

  • I wonder if all matter, given enough time, will merge into one super-sized black hole? Then what?

  • then were all fucked ok

  • Black holes evaporate, essentially, as been proven, and the universe is expanding exponentially, which also has been proven. It started with the big bang, and will end in a Big Fizzle.

  • no, fucktard. there is no beginning and end to the universe. the big bang was not the beginning. it was the beginning of a black hole that we ourselves are in. however the black hole we're in has already probably "evaporated" (i.e. it opened up again after its density decreased thanks to the expansion).

  • when matter gets sucked into a black hole, it creates an internal "big bang" but we don't see it because it's beyond the event horizon. after tens of billions of years, black holes **DO NOT** just evaporate. they simply open up again, with matter and energy leaking out more and more until the "baby universe" rejoins the larger universe. DUH!!!
