  • You believe in a god is satisfied by a human blood sacrifice.

Doesn't that sound like a primitive myth to you?

  • ...as I hear he preaches the word of God...in a way

  • Piper completely contradicts his own Calvinist theology of unconditional election by implying here that salvation is our choice. According to his own doctrines the elect can never be lost for God will cause them to persevere, and yet he WARNS people in this video to turn to God as if their salvation is up to them.

He teaches the doctrines of Calvinism (TULIP) but he preaches here the doctrines of Arminianism - "free will."

    He is a hypocrite - a pharisee.

  • John Piper to me is a little bit nutty, it seems wierd to me that he says do not put the bible into context in your own life? I mean this seems to be a hard swallow for anyone who thinks about things, it seems he teaches you that gods plan is not something that can have an individual meaning, this is why the god of the bible is not universal truth he has boundries on who he will accept and these people are not to quesiton him or rather the book written by man about him.

  • A word inspired by God, and there have been many who questioned the bible, except there are some who actually looked into it... pretty deeply to, a follow the evidence to see where it leads tactic. Lee Strobel, ever heard of him?

  • Either way the point is that teaching that "god" cannot be put into context is not a great message I feel.

  • What do you mean when you say, he's teaching God cannot be put into context? I may have misunderstood you before so I want to clarify.

  • I have heard him give a speach on the way that sinners try to put the bible into context to fit their own life, he says that you are not to put the bible into context that it is the word of God and not to be put into context for the individual, which is a direct contradiciton from the Hebrew teachings of the OT and completely impossible as everyone has different views of the world and none of us hear or see the same thing when we look at the bible or anything for the matter.

  • Your talking a lot about what "we" see and not about what God has to say about it don't you think? I mean that's what Piper is ultimately getting at here. What right do we have to think we can use the bible as our own personal genie in a bottle (give me what I want and call it a day)?

  • I am talking about what we see, why would you give the power to other MEN to tell you what the world is? If you cannot put it into context for your own life it is hardly devine, I don't know how you could argue that something that is so open to interpretation cannot be put into context when my view of it is obviously different then yours, we all create our own reality that is if we do not allow others to create it for us.

  • Dude your misunderstanding me, I'm not giving power to other MEN to tell me what the world is, its the word of God okay? If what Piper and all these others pastors say doesn't line up with the bible I have a problem with that. So what scripturally backs up your claims here that we should put the bible into context in our own lives, I'm trying to go back to God's word here. Do you believe the bible or not?

  • The bible is the word of man even if you believe it was written with devine inspiration I think it is okay to admit that men make mistakes and this book is chalk a block full of them and obvioulsy not written by the creator.

  • Inspired by God friend, and if you read through scripture you notice some interesting trends that occur throughout the bible like the consistency of humanity making the same mistakes and yet how patient God is with them. One other thing how could all those guys who wrote different books in the bible be writing about the same God when they never met, you see distinct writing styles in the Gospels that prove that alone.

  • How could Matthew, Mark, Luke and John be writing about the same Jesus differently. Obviously if they copied each other you would see trends in their writing that seem to mimic each other. Also think about the time they were written, you didn't have youtube or T.V's, you had witness accounts and people were pretty good for that then (and I'm talking like hundreds it not thousands of witnesses). That's how traditions were passed down and so on. You don't have to believe me, check it out.

  • There was a Messiah to come in hebrew legend and they used this story and stories from past sun gods to make the Jesus of today.

  • Alright obviously you won't believe me here and I don't expect you to anytime soon. I will ask you this though, what happens when you die? If I'm wrong, nothing will... but what if I'm right and you face God at His judgement seat to answer for the life you lead on Earth. Will you wait to see what happens like many others already have, or will you do something about it? I can testify to what God has done in my life but that won't make a difference to anyone unless they believe what I say is true.

  • Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us, and now we can have a relationship with the heavenly father because the barrier that sin made (that separated us from Him at the fall of man in Genesis) is gone because of the cross!! But the difference is He's alive!! He's currently ascended to heaven until the second coming when He comes to judge the world instead of save it like the first time. He left us the great commission to spread the Gospel (His Gospel, not ours) to all nations. I'm a believer.

  • So because I do not believe in something that I have never experienced you think I should fake it just in case I could burn in hell?

  • @Rents66 ...in that case I think God not called you yet to salvation...He know when to call you-when you will desire the Light of God,His justice in you.

  • @imremogheri Do you think the creator of all things is a man? You refer to your god as a he, so does this mean your god is in the form of man such as yourself? If so do you think god is a physical being that made us just like him and if this is not your belief then what is your god to you?

  • @Rents66 ...take care,God loves you even if you don*t believe...time will come for you to believe in the trouble time.

  • @Rents66 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3:16. Paul says that we have God's authoritative Word. God initiated the Bible and inspired its writers. God safeguarded it from error and guided its compilation. The Bible we have is precisely the Word God wanted us to have.

  • @LoveSTATIM I could see where someone could think this as I could see where anyone could get inspiration from any of the "messiahs" these men to me if they were physical men and not just a story understood that most people need a moral compass and a direction in order to lead a life of righteousness, that does not mean it is the only way or the best way for all.

  • @Rents66 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." [John 14:6]

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it." [John 1:1-5] The Word is Jesus, the only way.

  • @LoveSTATIM Who was John? Was he the creator? Was he not a man? Like I said in my original comment, even if you believe it is inspired by the all mighty directly with all the possible manmade mistakes based on perception of what happened makes it hard for me to say it is the word of the creator, I do believe in a creator I just don't think it is that simple.

  • @LoveSTATIM Amen.

  • Your god has not had a single success yet. He made perfect angels. He made perfect humans on a perfect earth. He had a perfect son. And ALL of them end up tortured and dead. He ends up with a few thousand buddies to lay around paradise with for ever while ALL the rest are destroyed or tortured for eternity. Has there ever been a bigger loser? Ever? Thank Reason it's just an insane delusion. That burning bush that started it all must have been a hell of a hallucinogen! Moses was trippin!
  • keep you're opinions to yourself

  • Learn to spell "your"

And no , I will continue to broadcast my opinions from the pulpit of the wonderful internet ,same as John piper. If you dont like it , I don`t give a shit.

  • bufantas - it's funny how you spend all your time commenting on these spiritual based videos, getting all worked up over something you believe to be false. If you don't believe it, than why get all worked up about it? Why spend all your time going from religious video to religious video pronouncing your anger towards it? Why does it bother you?

  • Hi csu . Dont spend ALL my time commenting , just some idle moments. I suppose my concern is that I care about the truth and I think religion is trying to subvert science . I think it is the duty of scientists to take a stand against ill informed superstition. Mostly the fundamentalists who need to be challenged , you know the folks who think Adam and Eve were real people , not just a metaphor for innocence etc etc.

  • Hi buf - just a question, do you believe in God?

  • How are you doing CSU? The short answer is no. The long answer will have to wait till I get my paperwork finished ( 2012 at this rate!)

  • written on it, u wouldnt logically say that over time, it just came together that way. U would logically think that someone with a mind put that on the paper, would you not?

  • I'm doing well buf. Yeah, paperwork is never really fun. So no God for you huh? And because you don't believe in God, than obviously the bible is just a bunch of stories to you. I guess for me, just looking at nature, it only seems logical that nature had to be created, because we can't explain its origin, and because of the unfathamable design that we see (not to mention what we have yet to see). i mean, if u were walking thru the sahara desert and came across a piece of paper with a song

  • You are right csu , we cant explain it`s origin , but we can do a good job of explaining how the complexities of nature evolved over time , without the need to conclude the need for a creator. Indeed , the logical question would be , well , who created the creator? Right on point 2 .For me the Bible is just a bunch of cute stories , with no relevance to the real cosmic order of things. Any Creation story in it is completely destroyed by science.

  • written on it, u wouldnt logically say that over time, it just came together that way. U would logically think that someone with a mind put that on the paper, would you not?

  • Many Christians view it as metaphor from a worldview that predates modern scientific analysis , but you always get the lunkheads who take things literally and think Noah and his 7 buddies built a wooden boat and looked after 12.5 million species of animal with no electricity! As for the young earth creationists , talk about wilfully ignorant cretinism!

  • Ah well , thanks for asking and back to the tax forms. take care csu

  • I could probably find something more fulfilling than post comments on you tube you are right , except I live in England and there is bugger all else to do.
