  • why can't we all have a pretty pair of Demon Drive's?

  • Ridiculousness...

  • he is so awesome

and the drum mix is so good

  • he is so awesome

  • I think my favourite thing about this video is that Travis looks like he's having a lot of fun.

  • The orbinator !!!

  • 3:31 damn love it :)

  • this is by far the best drummer i have seen.

  • 03:49

    Wonderful! So smooth...

  • You know what sucks is I am just learning this song and am almost finished learning it but sadly you have orbinated it. Now there is no chance I am going to feel like I am catching up with your skill hahaha. Although I learned by ear. I should be proud and I sort of am. After watching your videos though it humbles me again lol.

  • @drevilcs im in the same boat as you mate, got it down but just quite havent got it "orbinated"

  • i've watched enough of your videos that i make some of the same faces when i play xO

    :D

  • 3:32 I didn't think you were gonna do it double time. I didn't think yo uwere gonna fucking do it!!! holy shit!

  • the two people who disliked this listen to Justin Bieber while masturbating to rebecca black while they troll

  • what a weird spot to put a high-hat...

  • @Drmmr4gzus 2 high hats :)

  • @Val0n it looks pretty cool :D

  • @Drmmr4gzus hell yea man!! idk what kind of music you like. but if you want to hear some nice progressive hardcore. check out my buddys band :) they just turned down a record label. facebook /onelasttimepa?sk=app_178091127385

  • @Val0n wow,the're not too bad! :D a actually liked it.

  • @Drmmr4gzus :D idk why they took their older songs off. soo damn good :)

  • flawless...

  • what program do you transcribe drum music? i'm using Finale, and it's slow and frustrating, so i was looking for something better. thanks.

  • its a custom 40ply snare i built.

  • I know this question has been asked hundreds of times, but what snare are you using here? Is it a Truth snare? It sounds beautiful.

  • @MichaelRampage

i now own this snare it is a 40 ply snare

  • Badass...and I have that shirt.

  • 3:34 what

  • @xBASSBOOMx That's called Pro!

  • dude when you arent machining out perfect strikes you actually look like you are feeling it... lol..

  • you are the best open handed drummer on youtube

  • what pedals does he use?

  • The Mangini is strong with this one......hahaha kick ass as always travis.

  • I would like to see you playing against Thomas Pridgen... you guys would open up wormholes, black holes, dimensions... and the whole fucking world would be sucked into those...haha seriously a whole new generation of drumming is going on!

  • @rioseber Indeed, this is the new generation of drumming. Although the past generations are still master of the kit in their own ways (Peart, Stewart Copeland, Buddy Rich, Bonham, Bozzio, Gadd), I believe we are breeding a whole new generation of drumming that is much more techical, precise, and overall, much more challenging. I think 30 years ago if Travis Orbin would be playing in front of the world, people would think him a god for his mindblowing speed and technical precision.

  • @rioseber

That's kind of an odd comparison... but Pridgen is one of my all time favorites. With Carder Beauford, Josh Eppard, Benny Greb, and Chris Pennie. Of course Gene Krupa, but he isn't here to have a drum off.

  • @rioseber travis is better than thomas in the sense that he uses more dynamics and more calculated beats. thomas is just an improv badass. yes wormholes would open.

  • @rioseber Judging by Travis' recent Twitter posts, that might actually happen soon!

  • Interesting set up .. Nice cover!

  • ?. is shaftninja Travis Orbin?

  • @TheFutureMarine95 yes he is.

  • hahaha when you missed the high hat it made me lol :) i wouldnt of noticed if you didnt post about it tho.

  • @Val0n 3:51 - 3:52 -- I saw a live video of Kenny (former drummer) muting the crashes, but on the quarter note downbeats; I changed it to half-note triplets to create a brief superimposition -----youre a god damn animal

  • You're kit is similar to that of the guy from King Crimson.

  • Orbinator, I know u may get this all the time and are probably well aware of your own talents but dude.....seriously....you are the epitome of finesse, punctuality, technicality and everything else that makes special drummers special. i dont mean short bus special i mean you are a total specimen dude, hehe. by far.....by FAR... the best modern drummer! step aside Tim Yeung and Danny Carey, there is a new spectacle! On the real tho, Congrats on ur success and talents, c u on tour soon big guy

    TFD

  • His playing reminds me of those orchestra percussion players - like how they are running around the percussion section grabbing different instruments and hitting them a couple of times then grabbing something else like a maraca and shaking it then hitting some bells and shit!

  • Comment removed

  • I noticed that you have sheet music in front of you in some of your videos. were you in the high school band?

  • i think i got Orbinitis

  • do you trigger your bass drum?

  • This video was uploaded a year ago today... and it's still awesome!!!

  • you have an insane amount of control and an interesting kit arrangment; I bow to your skills :) I assume you've been trained at some point? I certainly wish I had been. I've been playing for 7 years now and I don't see myself getting much better than I currently am though I try. Also my kit is quite a few years old now lol and it doesn'y sound as crisp as it once did.

  • whats the specs of that snare? best sounding snare ive heard in ages.

you're a nutty drummer too haha

  • I really enjoy all the vids travis and the setup too. You could set up your rig at like a jazz gig or a free jam and any drummer could sit in and not really have to change anything. Even a lefty like me could play your kit by just changing ride positions. Brilliant

  • hey travis, what is your set up in terms of recording, ai/preamps and mics used for this video? it really does sound incredible, it's the sound i'm aiming for in my home project studio

  • Holy.

    Fuck.

  • i just broke the like button

    your very welcome:)

  • this was my favorite song off the record :) thank you for making it more beautiful (L)

  • hey man I'm am SUPER curious about how you get your kit to sound like that? Like what program do you use/ what interface and what mics? also do you compress/EQ the sounds at all? especially that kick drum. MMMM sounds perfect! im NEED my recording to sound like that ha

  • Do you trigger any of your drums?

  • the beginning made me kinda die a little. travis you rock!

  • 3:50 ... SICKNESS!

  • Probably the best sounding drums that I have heard. Especially that gracious snare drum...

  • what snare is that it's ridiculous

  • nice crossovers.

  • I have to say, you really amaze me!! Not only for your insane skills at drumming, but you take time to reply to comments and seem like an awesome guy! :) Just wondering if you're ambidextrous or not too far off it, because your skills with both hands are ridiculous!! Also i'd like to ask about the cover you have on your bass drum over where the tom holder was. Did you buy it or did it come with the kit? Thanks! =]

  • I love your videos you truly do show a new generation of drumming to come :D what pedals do you use? and do you have any tips on feet endurance there are times where my feet just don't want to roll anymore ha. It might be because I have 100$ pdp's though aha.

  • i have watched this video soooo many times, and just now noticed that rubber spider on the kickdrum. hats off to you!

  • ha ha, at bar 58 your comment is hilarious!!

  • he is a lefty hahaha you can tell just by where his ride is set at.. and when he does some single kick stuff he uses his left foot but when he keeps a beat with the hi hats he uses his right foot, very talented dude!!

  • travis, great job man for real. you're the one that got me into trx, and now i'm apart of that family too! i'm looking into some crashes to buy, and i'm diggin that 19" mdm. would that be a good investment if i decided on that?

  • this has to be one of the most unique set ups ive ever seen, pretty sick bro!

  • nommames weii!! te pasas de verga !!! eres bien chingon!! wee!!! OMG !!!

  • Thank you sir Travis Orbin. Without your drum transcriptions I probably would have never gone out of my way to teach myself a bit of music theory so that I could keep up with your work. I would love to learn the drums for realz one day, unfortunately school takes up a large chunk of my time. One day I may elicit a drum lesson from your talented self. Thanks again.

    JC

  • Are you right handed or left handed...

I mean seriously because you seem to be right handed but you are using a lot your left foot for single bass stroke.

  • Hey Travis, I was wondering what size snare this is and what it is? It sounds so dang good! One day I'll tackle this song's transcription. It's beastly dude.

  • Anyone know what kind of snare drum he uses in this? Thanks

  • Where did you learn theory and your technique? Really good hands..really good. Need to work on mine =/

  • how do you come up with all your parts? their like so complicated its awesome haha how long does it take you? XD

  • sick video man great playin!!!

  • unbelievable video dude. you single-handedly converted me into a huge SEA fan as well, it is all i have been listening to for the past 3 weeks! i am unbelievably happy that you are playing for these guys... truly an incredible band that you are apart of that I wish I realized the genius of sooner...

  • I love reading comments about Travis. When I first watched his videos I was scratching my head. As I kept getting drawn back to his videos I did some investigating and was blown away by what I found. A hard working drummer dedicated to playing drums for the music but still taking full advantage of his space to create a complex drum arrangement that still complements the music. Very hard to find now a days. I have not been this inspired to play my drums since I started. Thanks Travis!

  • k, so hes left footed? He leads all his double bass with his left foot? and i believe he is ampidextrous with his hands hence the weird setup. I LOVE SEA!!! cant wait for the SOUND OF SYMMETRY!!

  • @fkobbe you're supposed to use your opposite foot when starting a double bass pattern anyways.

  • love the cymbal choking triplet thing at the end. it just took a cool thing and made it awesome

  • that crossover with the toms man, fuck your the man, man

  • really weird set up.. but best kit i've heard mic'ed up in a while

  • damn weird ass set up but good cover

  • Nice cover? haha this is his shit man.

  • @XxToxicxDrumerxX its not a cover, he's the drummer for SKy Eats Airplane

  • @itLEAKED lmao oh i didnt know that aha but i seen them live

  • Well you ARE right but in a sense it kind of is a cover of the original recorded drum part. Travis is pretty amazing at his interpretations.

  • Is there a fake spider on your bass?

  • @NoobTheShow24

    Nope, it's real.

  • ur just fucking killer man, respect

    that is all

  • what are the specs on the spider

  • @peuptypants hahahaha!

  • are the sabian crashes you had before the TRX MDM's, Sabian AAXPlosions? Or whatever they are, are the MDM crashes heavier, lighter, or the same compared to the Sabians? i really want to know since im getting a TRX MDM crash

  • Comment removed

  • it would be awesome if the SEA singerr goes into chiodos

  • no.

  • yeahh but chiodos is doin some gay ass shit where they pick a fan as their new singer.

which means that person will probably try too hard to sound exactly like craig.

  • well that's not gonna work out

  • What kind of snare is that??

  • i'm not someone who usually discusses the merits of metal drumming, but this song is is insanely impressive. same goes any sky eats song

  • dooddd!!! awesome. are you ambidextrous?!?!?! either that or you LOVE left hand lead. ahha i envy you mann. great cover bro

  • 5 stars! you are a really really good drummer! keep it up bro!

  • This is f'in amazing. Not only is this guy VErY Good. but I have never seen ANYONE set up their kit this way......

  • @27xemit i know right! prabably the most creative set up ive seen

  • @stover81291 what about bill bruford?

  • Sexy

  • I love it.......

  • freakin' awesome. I love the meter change in the kick at the end!

  • Fuck me! That's some really insane shit you're playing there, man!

It's not only very well played intricate stuff, you also have a very recognizable personal style. Absolutely fuckin' brilliant.

Is that a Demon Drive pedal you're using?

  • dude holy shittt

  • You are truly amazing. And very inspiring.

    Awesome work.

  • Whenever I heard this song I was always like what the fuck is going on?!?!?

    Now I know!!

Well not really know, but know its possible haha. AMazing man, fuck...

  • lol

  • sure hope hes not....

  • WTF?!?! haha ridiculous

  • you dead set legend

  • plusss are you lefty

  • isn't this sky eats airplane????

  • yes it's sea and no he's a righty, according to some other video where he vehemently exclaims he's a righty via comments.

  • Whats sitting on top of his bass drum?

  • spider

  • damn man this is already a complicated enough song.. and yet somehow you're still able to make it more technical without the song losing any of its balance!

way too sick man, please make a video of transparent : x!

  • You are so awesome Orbinator! I caught half of a drum stick you threw out when you guys played in Stockton a while back and I keep that thing safe haha. Keep up the great work!

  • Oh wow, rad! I hope you caught it fine and it didn't smack you upside the head, haha. Thanks so much, will do!

  • Haha nah, clean catch. I was pretty close =)

  • Thanks for putting up so much SEA transcriptions. I love how Kenny formed these songs, but the changes you made for each of the SEA songs are so much more mind boggling than what Kenny did!!!

ANyways hey I got 2 quick questions. Is there any way you can put up some of your transcription charts you write out for yourself? I would love to see how you write them because of the way you switch from left to right sticking.

Also by the way you play your bass drum, are you left handed?

  • hey travis, i was reading along the transcription while watching this and read through the whole thing!

i want to learn this for myself. i just want to make sure and double check the drums/ cymbal that go along with each each number on the transcription, can you please let me know.

Ps- thanks a lot for posting the transcription, love learning music

  • Greetings,

Please view the transcription for my tune "Pixieprog" (it's in the video description) as there's a drum key at the beginning of the chart.

  • @shaftninja Pure showing off at 3:30-3:40

    Gotta love it, man.

    Inspiring.

Keep up the sick work, & like @thatdudejuju said, get a signature set out, I'd buy it if I had the money! Plus, your set with two hi hats would help out like crazy.

I'm a left handed drummer playing on a setup for a right hander. My bedroom is too tiny to set it up otherwise, so I haven't. With your set I'd have no problems pretending to be perfectly ambidextrous. (Or developing ambidexterity, I guess.)

    Keep rockin',

    Doug.

  • TRANSPARENT!!!! PLEASE.

  • and this is why you are quite possibly my favorite drummer out there

    2 questions

    1. why sir do you not have a signature set out? its madness

    and

    2. theres the old group the guys of SEA were apart of (intheory) and they have some stuff i think you would cover awesomely. they have a music vid for there was magic everywhere on youtube. consideration?

    trav=my hero by the way

    ok imma shut up now.

    great job as usual.

    i bow to thee. haha

  • Thank you for your gracious words, you are very kind!

    1-- I don't know, ask Truth! Haha

2-- Actually, I'll consider it... I think that would make Zack smile. However, I have a TON of stuff I'd like to get to beforehand.

  • what will be the next SEA interpretation? i vote for alias! :) keep up the good work!

  • i know hes amazing and shit but did anyone notice the spider lookin thing on the bass drum

  • what double pedal is that?

  • I can't wait until SEA's next album.

  • Another awesome job.

PS: Your 'In Living Color' T-shirt needs to make another cameo appearance.

  • Your request has been honored :)

  • 3:31-3:37. WOW!!!

  • yeah i agree with the kid below. transparent yo.

  • Please cover transparent!!!

  • how do you get endurance and speed you have on the bass drum?

  • Repetitious practicing

  • ugh your style just makes me want to learn more about drumming. 10 yrs doesnt seem like anything compared to you now haha

  • what style/size crashes do you have? they sound so different from each other, but work really well together.

  • Each model is detailed in my 'TRX Cymbals Demo' video clip.

  • what double bass pedal is that?

  • looks like the Demon Drives

  • Genius...I must learn to be this good someday :D

  • how much is like an 18 inch TRX Ltd cymbal?

    haha.

I'm looking for prices I just can' t find 'em.

  • go to their website

  • are you rockin the new demon drives?

  • Travis thanks for another great vid.....though I think I might need some proof that you are human......

  • 1:41 haha

  • thats funny because I saw that when I first watched this video.....I just though it was a glitch in the matrix....haha....anyways...always great drumming and another one to put on Wyatts play along list....thank Wyatt and daddy.

  • HAHAHAHA!

  • Your playing is flawless. I envy your ability to make everything look way simpler than it actually is. sky eats airplane is amazing. congratulations on being a badass. i dont know if its your drums, or the way they're tuned but they sound spectacular.

  • youre just awesome,man.

  • for some reason, 3:35 to 3:57 makes me laugh haha

  • im diggin it

  • Haha, just noticed the spider on your bassdrum for the first time!

    What's his name?

  • Yep, he's in most of my videos... I haven't dubbed him anything.

  • appropriate name for spider is 'webbly', make it happen travis.

  • i saw the trx prices on their website and some cymbals go up to $550 in the LTD series which is a bit much, last time i checked on their site

  • Those cymbals sound really good!

    What are the pricetags like?

By the way, are those SEA butts in Delaware yet?

    Good day to you, sir!

  • Thank you, glad you enjoy 'em! The price list is on the website. The guys are not here yet :(

  • Woo.

That is quite a powerful china.

I love it much more than your Sabian china you were using before the TRX cymbals.

    You never fail to impress.

  • is that the snare you got from Joe?

  • do you use that drum set for touring?

not a fan of Truth/SJC custom drums?

  • actually he uses a Truth kit when touring =D he jsut uses this one at the studio

  • Thanks, DDrummr41. I had this kit long before I acquired an endorsement (via joining SEA) with Truth. I'm having a new kit made for my videos at home and session recording; it'll be finished fairly soon.

  • such a crazy set up and he makes it look easy.
