This is too little preload. With the proper preload you shouldn't be able to spin the ring gear by hand at all. This video is an example of too little preload. It should have 15-28 in. lbs and the ring gear in this video may not even have 5 in. lbs. Accomplishing this amount of torque is a PITA. I used a 18 inch breaker bar with 3 feet of pipe. It is doable but not easy.
I can guarantee you that you would be pulling the gear set and replacing it withing a few thousand KM's if you ran it like that. :P
Great style video for the young guys with A.D.D. though.

sounds like bad carrier bearings . Also is there a pinion gear installed?? turns too easy
boaterbil 8 months ago
Its a bit loose the pinion need to have 15-25 lbs of peload on it so the bearing stay well set .

could this be why my dana 60's prevent me from doing over 60 MPH?
TheSigp220 9 months ago
That seem to be just right to me with new bearings

Well, son of a bitch, it's that easy huh? And to think I go through the trouble of setting up for turning torque on lightly oiled bearings! Doh!

This is done by Photoshop. No human can do that.
SilentHiss1 1 year ago
@SilentHiss1 Yeah its pretty easy to do. Take the drive shaft off or pop in in neutral.

@SilentHiss1 I didn't know you could edit videos with Photoshop.....

Too much pre-load my ass you should not be able to spin it period. might also try not puting the bearings in dry either.

When is the time for this test?
Can you do it with the pinion in place or before to install it?
Thanks a lot for these vids.

@COKE75 ... pinion goes in before diff
turtlemann14 11 months ago
@turtlemann14
I know.
But unless you have installed a new chrush collar and nut yet,you can remove it for triying different tests.
Anyway, the time for this test is with the pinion out of place .
