  • Washington station closed on October 23, 2006 due to Block 37 construction and will never reopen

  • WTF?! It's under the ground?

  • @Dinosbacsi Many subway systems are indeed underground. I'm surprised that you seem to have just realized this fact.

  • @TransferPoint9346 But as far as I know there are only L train in Chicago.

  • @Dinosbacsi

no there are L and elevated the red line is both elevated and subway

  • @Dinosbacsi There are Metra trains and South shore trains as well.

  • @Dinosbacsi .. hence the prefix SUBway!! too funny!

  • @getofmaballs this 3 miles long learn yo fact and thoes station arnt conected

  • We at the HallowHand Inc find this to be pretty haunting, thank you for posting this..

  • It's really too bad that Washington will probably never reopen. The platform was cut open to build a crossover for the tunnel spur leading to the Airport Express Station underneath Block 37.

Fortunetly the upper level transfer between State/Washington Station and Dearborn/Washington is reopening in fall with the opening of Block 37.

  • I'm confused, so really down by the subway track it is a really really really long platform divided into several stations?

  • Yes. The tracks face a 3500-foot long platform divided into four stations at Lake, Washington, Monroe, and Jackson.

  • If you had rating I'd rate 5.

  • lol the train probably picks people up at one end and drops them off at the other!

  • In normal situations, each train makes four stops along the platform.

  • oh yeah forgot to mention the blue & red lines connecting to city hall & the daley plaza. very few cities got it like that. thats part of what helps make Chicago a world class city. i love my city. CHI-CITY!!

  • and just how long are these platforms?

  • The platform is about 3500 feet long, over 1 kilometer!

  • damn, why does it need to be long?

  • Probably because Chicago can have some pretty rough winters, so this makes it easier for someone to enter the nearest entrance to the subway, and walk over to one of the stops, without having to deal with, say, a foot of snow on the sidewalk.

  • i love the way too how the red line & blue line stations connect to the underground tunnels that goes to macy's, the Chicago culture center, LA fitness center & the metra station all the way to michigan ave without stepping outside in the cold. CHI-CITY BABY!!!
