@MrJSU2010 The song is "Say You'll Be There" by the Spice Girls. We want the opposing band to say they'll be there....for that ASS WHOOPIN we gona give em!! Hence the chant.."We gon' BUST EM UP!"
As the FIRST BLACK drum major to march as Head Drum Major at KARR for junior and senior years, Im glad to see that people that marched under me while I was a drum major come back to Karr to bring progress to the program. If Mr H (aka Chalupa) brings his JSU style back to Karr along with my fellow SAXO (aka J Grows) then I applaud it. They are both doing well and the Edna Karr alum call to tell me about my skool often. KEEP AT IT GUYZ!!
FYI, Amien Russell wrote all of Karr music (a JSU Alum)
@BleedPurple04 Yeah bruh I just saw that tweet last night. I ain't been on twitter in a hot minute lol. Why they won't let us make it man? Negroes in this city got their panties in a bunch over what WE are doing with OUR PROGRAM. Keywords: WE and OUR. Build a BRIDGE and GET OVER IT cuz it ain't going anywhere.
@mankiesgurl15 You mad at a former JSU band member for having his band's drum majors march with Jackson State's style? I didn't know you can STEAL YOUR OWN STYLE now...from a NEW ORLEANS HIGH SCHOOL. lol. FYI: These drum majors were taught by J Grows...who is an assistant band director at Karr.....and a FORMER JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY "JACKSON 5" DRUM MAJOR. Stop hating.
I appreciate the support and positive reviews. As the Head Band Director, and Karr Graduate/Pre-Katrina All-Star Band Section Leader/ JSU Section Leader/ JSU student Assistant. I can assure everyone that the staff is 100% New Orleans born and bred and that we are CONTINUING to work hard and providing a breath of fresh air for the city and our ever growing program.
I respect your opinion, but ALL SCHOOLS IN NEW ORLEANS are Southern Influenced some way, shape, or form. And (just to let you know) all the directors are from here. 2 of them graduated from Karr, and I graduated from St. Aug. We just went to JSU and experienced something new that WE liked(you would've lost your money on that bet). We're not knocking anybody, we just wanted something different.
I understand that we need something new but throw some of the old school New Orleans in that. I bet any money that all of Karr's directors are not from New Orleans. And by the way not all the high schools in New Orleans follow behind Southern. If you would understand how rich the tradition is in New Orleans. You will understand why people feel the way they feel. I also understand that yall want to do something new but these people not ready for that. That's my honest opinion.
@donniebabynola You must not have been at the Jamboree. They also played "Velvet Rope"..a song that is "true old school New Orleans." Regardless of if the people in the city are ready or not, they better GET READY because this ENTRANCE CLIP has been up for only 2 days and has over 1,000 hits!! If Karr would have gone with a traditional NO/SU entrance, this clip would not have even been posted. They would have faded into the background and been JUST ANOTHER NO BAND. (food 4 thought)
Karr's band staff is doing what every other SU grad (and NON GRAD for that matter) is doing in the city...Basing their program off of what they learned at the university they graduated from. Why are some of you in an uproar about this? Let me guess..yall are mad because these guys have the NUTS to go AGAINST THE GRAIN of the city and not play "Vice Versa," "Empire State of Mind," and the rest of Southern's library like EVERY BAND in New Orleans? GOOD JOB Karr! Continue doing what yall are doing!
So, is it wrong that we're not following tradition of being a Southern U based high school like EVERY OTHER SCHOOL? We(the 3 directors) all went to JSU! Why be like everybody else? That's why the BOTB @ Tad starting to be boring, everyone wants to do the same thing. I'm just saying, give us some kind of respect, credit, or something for wanting to be innovative!
Maaaan niggas stay hatin. I enjoyed the entrance. It was cute and I am proud of the band, band staff, and director, Christopher Herrero. Everybody else who aint got nothin' positive to say can get the steppin' cuz we Edna Karr Alumni ain't got time to entertain the foolishness and "hooked on phonics" needin' ass people on here.
