  • this....is........beautiful.

  • Tesla is doing it already check out their website, they already have an S model just under 50K. Its only a matter of time before they hit the 30K mark. And being a private company boy is it sweet, that right, the profit comes back home. [But it is quite possible that they will go public] Major bump for Tesla Motors, it's gonna change the world !

  • Much as I love the Tesla, the British Lightning Car company is looking a pretty sweet option too :)

And of course, yer should welcome competition, as it will only drive down the price and up the performance for all of us:)

  • @GearGadgetz

THIS IS THE RECORD OF THE FIRST MAN-MADE EARTHQUAKE.

I am not wrong. I challenge you all. With this so many lies fall.

Man-Made earthquakes… The U.S. account of the damage caused by Nikola Tesla in the first major earthquake made by man is in this 1912 government paper, “The Earthquakes at? Yakutat Bay, Alaska, in September, 1899.”

Los Alamos National Laboratories TOP SECRET

  • So, it is bether than porsche carrera. But for the same price.

  • Well, you could say they have a different focus. The Carrera is basically a luxury car, while the Roadster is exactly what it says. So Tesla concentrated on performance, while Porsche concentrated on comfort.

  • Okay, about noise, if u like noise, use the speaker. I personally dont like noise at all. About electricity price, if we get it from the sun and wind, the source is like infinity, u will get it till the earth explode or the sun go down. With gasoline, we use most of it now, and it keep pollute the air. So, what u care more? ur money? or ur health?

  • Money should not even metter but thinking about it how much does the average joe spend on oil, filters, fluids, gas, grease, gears, heads, trans, pistons, , and all the other little things that come with an internal combustion engine. it might not make a difference to most people but i like the idea of a car that just... goes. my only concern with the tesla roadster is limited battery life. 250 miles is enough for me, but how long will the charge hold the 250 mile potential? think of your cell phone...

  • Obama working on it =), hope he can make US have charging station everywhere.

  • I super agree with you!

  • lol.. Obama. If Tesla takes off and releases a third car that costs below 30k then private industry will implement charging stations because everyone will do their best to buy a Tesla when the need a new car.

  • you talking about only "Tesla" and "if" here, but i believe many firms will jump into this e-cars thing. Obvious charging stations would be built, the problem is just when

  • this just occurred to me today, on the the stupid show "pimp my ride" didn't the attach a set of speakers under a van and made it sound like an Austin martin? Using the cars accelerator throttle sensor to play different tones while sounding real, if the immature dudes who NEED the sound of a v8 to make-up what they lack in manhood you can take this route: look at brabus 2009 tesla. I might have misspelled but you should get the point.

  • Tesla recommends that you replace the battery after about 5-10 years - as I understand it, a new one will cost about $12,000. However, that's if you want it to maintain like-new performance and range; if you're fine with an about 15-20% decrease in range, you could use the battery for up to 20 years (after 20 years, I assume one would want to get a newer battery anyway...) The trick is that the battery is constantly pampered by the complex drive electronics, regulating temperature, current, etc.

  • noise is fun on the track and from time to time, but for daily basis u are right it's btter without it...

  • Yea, thank for agreeing with me. Just see the highway in U.S. the houses around the highway have to have gigantic walls to block the sound and etc. now e-cars, :D no pollution, no noise, less money on fixing.

  • Comment removed

  • People complain about not having that stupid engine sound. Look people it's stupid. It's like neeer, neeer like something that has gone wrong in the head. Electric Car's have a much nicer sound anyway. It's like a Jet Engine. Look if you like it so much what people should do is make a speaker that makes that noise every time you push the peddle.

  • I agree. And besides, for the people who do decide to put a speaker in that makes engine noises, at least they have the option to turn the sound off in situations that requires it, like coming him in the middle of the night.

  • ITS THE NEW ERA OF PERFORMANCE FORGET ABOUT PERFORMANCE SOUND. i LOVE IT TOO AS MUCH AS I HATE IT WHEN A FREAKING COP PULLS ME OVER BECAUSE MY CAR IS TOO LOUD!

  • one thing that car doesn't have is the sound of a real engine, also i agree with wheelbaron if more and more people have electric cars then the greedy people at the electricity companies will decide to raise the prices even higher than they already are so they can steal even more of everybody's money

  • Electricity companies don't steal your money. They spend a lot of money in power plants to create electric power, which they then sell to you. Do they make more money than they spend? Of course, because they're a business. Are there corrupt individuals? Yes, just like in any other business.

You know what's good, though? If you buy a Tesla, you get a good discount on a solar panel package. They're enough to completely charge the car, and you don't have to pay anything to anyone.

  • I beg to differ with you Garrison64, most people would charge their electric cars 'off-peak' , which really won't strain the current grid. Once electric cars are produced for the masses, we should have renewable electricity (wind and solar). There is no other energy source to date which is as clean or as cost effective for consumers. Tesla has plans for a model with it's own solar panels, extending the driving range and charging the car while it's parked in the sun. BRILLIANT!

  • I was also gonna say that they left the price out which is substantial at this point. Also electric is not the answer because if everyone goes electric we still have to produce the electricity which is already at the breaking point in many areas. I don't see this as a viable option for our energy problems to be honest. It is cleaner, but it doesn't really solve the main issue we are facing which is dwindling fossil fuels.

  • my problem with electric cars is that if everyone is getting them then the cost of electric will go through the roof! Then it will cost you an fortune to run your other appliances like the microwave. So what then? The Infrastructure and power grids will have to be seriously upgraded, people will be finding more ways to steal electric......

  • Check out some research on the Net, the claim that the infrastructure will have to be upgraded is just Big Oil FUD. Actually even the weak US electric grid is capable of charging millions of cars, because the chargers will have chips regulating when to suck power from the grid, so as not to overload it. As long as the grid is not overloaded, the cost of electricity has no reason to rise (not to mention the government won't let it). Plus of course during all that the grid will be slowly updated.

  • 0-60 in 3.9,

    top speed 125mph,

    244 miles on a charge,

    charges in 3.5 hours

    $129,000

  • Sounds great except for the $129,000

Thats about $100,000 more than I want to spend.

  • Really and exactly where will you find a high performance sports car for $29,000?

  • Ummmm, maybe in Taiwan or China. That seems to be where we Americans now get all our good shit so cheep. Now that Obama is president maybe I will just wait for him to get me one or maybe two. One red and one blue.

  • No you wouldn't, China's cars don't pass our safety guidelines. The car has to actually not fall apart in a fender bender. And Obama will not get you one, he will only provide a tax discount for buying one (a plug-in vehicle that is).

  • And while we're at it, maybe Obama will buy us houses that are off the grid. [/sarcasm]

  • TESLA GOOD WORK!

  • This ad gives me goosebumps. I love it

  • The bailouts hurt Tesla.

  • WANT

  • I say we give GM's / Chrysler bail out money this year to tesla. Even tho at those base prices I won't be able to afford a car like that. I would be confident that in the future they could come out with a 15-20K car for masses as soon as production hits. This would put a big dent in our demand on oil, and it would be a USA company - more jobs, green, win, win, win! I'd rather see may tax money going here then the big 3.

  • Well, in 2-3 years, they cut the cost of a Tesla vehicle in half; I'm sure within 10, there'll be one below 30K (and assuming annual price inflation of 2%, that's a 57% cost decrease). As it is, the S-model is already cheaper than an H2

  • The all new sedan is officially announced on its website. Go check it out, looks nice, base model $49,000-$54,000

  • *The anticipated base price of the Model S is $57,400.

  • Minus a $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles.

  • We all have to remember the costs of LCD flat-screen televisions when they were introduced right after the millennium sometime...

No one can afford them-and now everyone almost has one. This will be the same.

  • Very nice, this will be an investment for me come 2011

  • Nice will be buying a car like this!

  • How come a small company like Tesla can do this but Gm cannot? Why cant ford orToyota do this? They have the money and tech, why not? This car costs about 110k, I am sure Tesla can make a family car or something less powerful than a sports car. I laugh my ass off every time I see an Exxon Mobile commercial where they talk about adding hydrogen to gas to make it more efficient. They want to Milk oil for profits as ling as possible. GAME OVER BIG OIL, ADAPT or die just like GM.

  • They already have a sedan in the works. It will go for about $50,000 and should be ready in 2011.

  • That's because the big 3 assumes that everyone wants to buy a big gas-guzzler SUV rather looking forward. GM wouldn't be where they are if they didn't scrap the EV1.
