That looks like an awesome run. I'm staying at Casa Munras right now...it's less than 5 miles from Laguna Seca Raceway! They're full with Skip Barber for my stay...wish I could get a run in...
Well, I locked up the brakes, and by the time I had that worked out I was late on the downshift. But the worst case scenario for the corkscrew is you just go over the berms and chew up the underside of your car a little bit.
Because F1 is run by people who don't believe first that Americans and Canadians should have a race and second that the run off areas and barriers at Seca are too small. The top of the first turn of the corkscrew, for example, has just about no room to slow a car doing 100mph down if something goes wrong. Part of the way F1 keeps fatalities down is to only pick very safe tracks.
"Because F1 is run by people who don't believe first that Americans and Canadians should have a race"
Amen Templar! Finally someone says it: F1 snobbery is rooted in the snobbery of Europe in general relative to North America (US and Canada). We've known this snobbery for 250+ years. As the old saying goes, some things never change.
But why the hell do you want it? todays f1 is sooo boring,...a bunch of jerks,...and its turning away from europe as well, towards even more boring tracks in asia/arabia and so on,....abu dhabi for example,....like a hotwheels track (and a boring one) in the surgery or in some kind of laboratory,...
I drove my Lotus Exige around it this past weekend. What a blast! My time was only 1:49 since i've only been on a track a few times. Your video is excellent.. i now realise so many mistakes i made.
Oh, sorry, I see your last comment. A Porche, really? Those things usually bounce up and down until your teeth fall out. Otherwise, you die when you lose control because you hit the breaks too hard when you are going in a straight line.
Thanks. They say that if you can drive an early-seventies 911 well, then any other production car is a piece of cake. As an instructor, I've driven a lot of different types of cars. To me, there are more similarities than differences. They're all fun.
Thanks. It's not bad. But I think I could get below 1:40 with a little more time on that track. Aside from the particular mistake I make going into the corkscrew in that lap, I wasn't doing 2 right, or 6, or 9.
The car is a 1972 911 with a 247-hp 3.6 liter motor from a 1993 911 in it. It weighs 2500 pounds without the driver, and has a handful of suspension mods. I was on Toyo RA1s, 255/275.
Woah, WAY wide at the Andretti hairpin...that'll cost ya some time. Forget the corkscrew, as long as you're moving and heading downhill regardless of orientation..haha!
What a blast to watch! Great line thru the corkscrew!! This was a treat for me to traverse the course with you as I've been to the Red Bull MotoGP for the past 3 years...would love to take my bike on the course some time! Thanks for this post!!!!!!!!!
Oh, of course, but when you compare street drivers to this or bike riding, I mean, c'mon...LOL! I'm all about the skills in both autocross (BMW's, actually...) and my Suzuki SV650 or Ducati! YeeHa Boys!!!!!!!!!!!
a chimpanzee could drive that pacer better, some boring shit there mate

Love this flippin' track! Can't wait to go to the Historic Races this year. Haven't been since Porsche was the featured mark.
What is that cork screw... a 10-story drop in 150 yards? I bet it feels like falling off a cliff!

Nice driving. Thanks for sharing.
Took my Mazdaspeed3 around Laguna last year. My best lap was 1.56, stock car first track day.
I am going again soon, hopefully I can get closer to your time, my goal is to break into the 1.40s
Its definitely doable, after watching your video I see many areas that I could improve.
Maybe I'll post a video of it after.
Have Fun

1:49 in a stock msp3 is going to be super hard. hell the fact that you broke 2:00 is impressive next time record it and put it up
lmrcobalt 2 years ago
I did record it. The previous one. I'll find the tape and post it up for you if you like.

they run every year in the historic races. And, in unlimited classes with SCCA they can run as well. they can be pretty quick here.
