Back about Nov '44, the guys in the band got together and worked up a birthday tribute to the "greatest little man" ----it romped and rampaged and had a sax passage in it that would have easily roused the dead within 35 miles. It was the most classic of romp-and-stomping lease busters I've ever heard and I'd give anything now to lay hands on it. I heard it for the first and last time while out driving before they had car tape decks you could instantly record radio music on. It was an air check.

Jan died in 1948 at the age of 35, I believe of a brain tumor. Senseless loss
