i actually found this after a little searching. it does make a bit more sense than you give it credit for, but that's being nice. the lead chick is a terrible actress and her voice drove me nuts! i wish there's been more of de sade as that was the only interesting part! and i really don't get why the movie is even called "night terrors", "dark passions" or something would've worked better

Oh Lord...the 'not so happy' moments of Hooper's career...give me Chainsaw 1 & 2 or Eaten Alive (also with Englund) over this badly acted, soft porn excuse for a horror film. I'd rather read De Sade or watch hardcore porn (or Softcore for THAT matter) than waste my time with this drivel...anyone remember SALEM'S LOT ('78) and Poltergeist? If it were made in the 70's, I MAY have watched this just for 'Mystery Theater 3000' kicks...BTW--lovely voice on the reviewer-you made it worth the watch!

I actually own this movie, and I must say that it looks like the writers had 3 different stories that went nowhere and decided to just cram them together into one big clusterf#ck. The ONLY redeeming quality is Robert Englund, whose performance as the Marqui De Sade is genuinely terrifying (though Paul is a lttle too hammy.) From what I heard the original script made more sense, but budget cuts ended up ruining the third act and we ended up with near-total garbage,

Well I would say for hardcore Englund fans it doesn't matter whether he sucked or not, they just want one straight thing: To see Robert Englund. And I guess for those who've never seen them with white face before, it's a good choice. Me for example, I would love to own that movie, but as it was said before, no chance to get it... well... guess it's not good being a hardcore Englund fan :P, wasting money for movies that suck.
I really appreciated this review because I wanted to know whether I should pay to rent this movie. I also appreciate your understanding of DeSade and his history -- I was really, REALLY hesitant to put money into a film that shows him off as a horror movie villain. (I liked the idea of Robert Englund as DeSade simply because he's got a great voice and he delivers the dialogue beautifully.) So...thank you for putting this up. Very informative.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it. I neglected to mention in the review that there are almost 20 instances of dialogue taken directly from "Philosophy in the Bedroom." Although there are horror movie elements, I don't think the film appeals to horror fans. Those who know a bit about Sade and have read "Philosophy" will see it from a different angle.
