There are many reasons why Africa is portrayed in the media the way we see. Here are a few:

1. To hide to corruption of European invaders.

2. To belittle Africans to support the ideology they need to be ruled by invaders.

3. To keep African Americans feeling they have no connection to Africa through negative imagery. (which goes both ways FYI)
