General Dostler did not break any laws in shooting the American Commandos caught behind German lines while out of uniform. They were spies. The Americans did the same; for example in the Battle of the Bulge SS Commandos were dropped behind US lines dressed as US Military Police to confuse retreating US forces. They were captured and shot without trial as spies. The shooting of Dostler was not justice
