  • NOS MISKOLCIAK? Megnézzük az előadásról készült filmet a Csodamalom Bábszínházban? Magyar feliratos. Az időpont még rejtély! Majd érdeklődjünk! Miskolci Nemzetközi Operafesztivál Operaklub / (International Opera Festival Miskolc,Hungary)

  • ova zena fenomenalno peva

  • I love her singing! She is devine!

  • Melle Di Donato devrait faire la différence entre les sons blancs et enfantins d'un certain "Baroque" et les moyens et l'école requis pour affronter les rôles de la Colbran .... Quelle époque ...

  • Rossini is all about the singing, dear people. Who cares about the staging? When you follow bel canto opera, you must understand its aesthetics--that is, virtuosity and grand artifice. This is music composed for a very different audience in a very different time; therefore, it behooves us to adjust ourselves accordingly. I wish modern directors would quit trying to reinvent this material; they need to let it be what it is--people would derive more from it, I'm sure.

  • Well the singers usually have no control over the staging. They have to "fit in", so don't blame Joyce for the staging. It is her superb singing that makes this so wonderful. Her Tanti Affeti is the stuff of legends.

  • I WAIT FOR THIS DAY : Juan Diego Flórez - La Donna del Lago

The Teatro alla Scala - MILAN ITALY

From 26 October to 18 November 2011,Running Time: 3 hours 15 minutes, Sung in Italian with electronic libretto in Italian, English

  • I think this production is destined for the Met in a few years. Loved the camera work. Pity Ms. di Donato did not do this season's second run of "Armida" at the Met. She really has a wonderful voice.

  • I think this production is destined for the Met in a few years.

  • Both R. Abbado and Di Donato are boring too !

  • @Johnny1206 I'd blame this production and conductor before I blame Joyce. It looks like a bore.

  • I have filmed opera and ballet for years, and it is not easy to do such a wonderful job. Under the circumstances, the camera work is fantastic. I listened to the performance over the radio, and Miss Di Donato was superb. It's a pleasure to see her now.

  • I think the similarity to Bartoli would be the range and quality of sound. I haven't heard DiDonato live, have any of you (as well as Bartoli)? I know Bartoli has a tiny sound, and she also relishes on the higher runs. Which kind-of hints that she's really a soprano, I agree, as well as DiDonato. It's just that her "type" since she's a tiny bit hefty physically and stout, lends itself more to the mezzo/pants roles. What do you think? Her middle and lower is not that dark and developed.

  • @rlee1976 DiDonato's voice is not small. I heard her do Barbiere sitting way back under the balcony of the Civic Opera Building in Chicago -- a real stadium of a hall, and it sounded like she was sitting right next to me.

And which one are you referring to as "a bit stout"? Joyce is just big-boned, and Bartoli wasn't stout when she started out in the late 80s/early 90s.

  • Beautiful sound and audio quality for someone who is just sitting in the audience! No offense by "just sitting" - you know what I mean, not floor-miked, with tripods, etc., ie not a professional recording... it's great! Haven't seen Joyce live yet, but plan to sometime soon! She's a real inspiration to us all!

  • This performance was universally praised. The Financial Times reviewer called it the "best singing I have heard in years." The New York Times's review was ecstatic about her performance. She is without doubt the #1 coloratura mezzo in the world today. An Irish girl from Kanasa City, MO, USA.

  • Wow! Her ornamentation is so fresh and beautiful! She's really made this aria her own.

  • I think "1980s warrior princess" is the look they were going for with that costume. ;) Her singing is great.

  • Wonderful singing!!! Yes, booooring stupid production! Thanks for the post :) JDF and JDD are the BEST!!! We need more recordings of them together!!!!!

  • Voice teacher? A littel study to learn about breathing and REAL singing?

  • BRAVA JOYCEEEEEEEE.... This woman is amazing... much better than Bartoli... IMPRESSING! Really "Cantante di Teatro"... Bartoly is great for CD. Thanks for the video!

  • The production looks really rather boring. I guess a concert performance would have been more apprecitaed in this case. But you don't have to excuse for the video quality, I find it surprisingly well! And btw a big BRAVO for your courage to film during a performance in theatre, these in-house recordings are always most interesting! :-)

  • @Intermezzo89 Well, I had to endure 3 hours of a boring production, I couldn't miss recording this treat! By video quality I meant my shivering hands (and my way too fast camera zoom!), because as you said, the quality itself is really good, I was also very surprised :-)

  • @thecelticspirit Can't believe they put that set on the stage of La Scala :/

  • -Exquisite ornaments. The most sensitive interpretation of Rossini I have heard. Incredible singing

-Very few of the lower notes are less well supported. The top register is blessed with divine Sparkle

-The costume designer and the hair artist need to be executed though.

    -The acting needs less movement/"acting"

  • @LohengrinT

I don't really find her low register unsupported, I feel she doesn't make it heavy like Marilyn Horne though, but it's really not bad.

  • Production aside (I can't make up my mind whether I like or hate the dress - I *know* I hate the music stand), it's just so great to SEE her singing and acting the role in a complete production. What an Elena! Possibly the best ever.

  • hey the music stand is copied from Zimmerman's Met Armida...

and the costumes look like Star Trek...

Love Joyce though...she could just wear a potato sack and sing and that would be fine

  • Based on this bit I think I like the staging, it's nice, and normally I don't care about all the drama and movement^^

The singing as always is beautiful!

  • @leoperarm Somehow, it doesn't surprise me ^^

  • @thecelticspirit yeah.... right xD

  • NON T'AS COUPE LES APPLAUDISSEMENTS! Mais totally brilliant indeed.

As for the staging, j'te dirai quand j'y serai allé! :)

  • @luvxl Ben j'applaudissais aussi, patate! Tu vas pouvoir y aller finalement? :-)

  • Great sound/video quality! You're right about the boring production (everybody's just standing around), but I guess it's better for the singers to not have to do cartwheels *and* coloratura. :D

The singing though… WOW. Joyce sounds like a cross between a precision laser and a melodious bell. Amazing. Thanks for posting!
