its obviously not boring showing the proper form. the only thing that is boring is where you put bad form because thats just a waste of time since we come here for proper form.
The cheating ways he describes my god i see them all the time and the people who do them refuse to admit that they are cheating they are so full of themselves ! Thank you SCOOBY
hey scooby1961 i got one question,in your vid it says slow push up, but i do the right way but with a fast push up,i usually do 100 per day , do you think i should do 50 slow push ups and 50 fast pushups or just slow ?Im asking this because i heard for example that for people who train box or anyother sport when theyr to punch they more faster by doing fast pushups and that slow pushups are better for gainning muscular mass is this true ?
@rubenfigueiras as scooby tells in other videos you should not train one musclegroup every day due to overtraining (look up his other clips). there might be exceptions to this, but you should take one or two days of rest between your push up days.
Scooby I was wondering what your thoughts on doing push ups on non chest days were? I do bench, incline bench, and decline bench on Mondays but I want to do push ups on other days as well. Would this be something that would hamper my agility to gain mass? Thanks!
I love your work out videos! It's really helpful. I have a question on push ups though. You never mentioned about how to fix elbow joint pain. I do everything you say and still get elbow pain. I went to a doctor and they said to not worry about it, but can you help me fix this problem? Please and thank you.
i had no idea about the proper form of a good pushup till now! my shoulder was killing me last night while doin pushups and i had to stop but now i know why thanks scoob u basically saved my shoulders lol!
Aha...before I watched this video I was doing like 200 pushups, but now I do only 7 plus one but I didn't count the last pushup cause it was a banana pushup!
I can usually do about 60-70 pushups in a row without stopping.. While doing them at about .5-1 second down and up. But doing two seconds slowly with hip pushups and good form, I could only pump out around 10.
Proves that this is amazing in every way. I will definately start doing push-ups this way. Hopefully Muscle memory will allow me to gain more endurance in this, then I can add extra resistance.
Hi. Most of the "hardgainers" in the gym speaks about upper/lower/middle/outer/inner pecs. Well, I am not a doctor and have never studied anatomy but when I look at picture of chest muscles I see only two muscles Pectoralis Major and Pectoralis Minor. I assume that Pectoralis Major does the main job and it does not matter which way you exercise it, it will always look the same just bigger. I think it is impossible to target different parts of one muscle. What do you think? Thanks.
@AllkoDH Well It's gotta be possible to put a strain on a different section of a muscle if it's big. Like flys might work and hit the side of your chest harder vs. press working the front. Not sure if I answered your question at all :).
hey nice video dude.. my shoulder has always bothered when doing pushups.. argh! no wonder i hate doing them so much.. i think i really need to focus on pinning my shoulders back
so what about those other types of pushups.. dive bomber.. hindu.. i don't know i have heard so many names.. is it useless or risky to do them..not that i do any of those.. but still curious???
dude, i subscribe. you are a legend in this field as far as im concerned. i take note to all your posts. i dont think there is anyone quite like you, and frankly, im not gonna look, and i dont need anyone else...
i don`t understand how i can gain mass from pushups because i can do huge amount of reps and i tought every exercise that you can rep more than 15 times it`s not adding mass nor strength but endurance.
Hi Scooby! I was wondering: to build strength, is it more effective to do 3 sets to failure every second day, or do several sets spread out over every day without reaching failure when you do them?
Hi Scoob. Love your videos. I'd like to point out something in this one though. The kind of pushup that you call "the worm" is actually very simliar to a traditional Indian push-up called the "dand". It has been used by all traditional martial artists and wrestlers in India since centuries. Of course, it is done a little more carefully than the way you demo-ed "the worm" :) Do look it up, there are various articles and videos available. Would you mind posting a response after you look it up?
Sick boonie. Scoob, you're the man. I would recommend your workouts and instructional videos to anyone that is interested in developing their level of physical fitness. Could you please put together a 'huge' leg workout involving some of your favourite leg routines and/or a leg super-set. Legs are always a pain, and I find that it helps to be able to go through a difficult workout with someone else. Thanks chief. Auf Wiedersehen.
My progress over the past two years has been remarkable. I owe most of this to Scooby1961 due to his inimitable instructional videos. Good fat loss and substantial muscle gains. It can be done. People akin to Scooby1961 (altruism, nobility, sincerity etc) are a dying breed. His magnanimity is boundless. I thank you again Scooby1961. You were my inspiration to achieve my aims. I will continue to lift weights for many more years to come.
@AbsoluteZ3R0 His body fat probably fluxuates slightly over time. The lower bf he has, the more defined and larger his muscles look. Its probably hard to stay full ripped all the time, and he's looking pretty lean in this video.
@samurphy His body fat does fluctuate but his muscles always look the same size. I've never fallen for the whole leaner = bigger illusion because it simply isn't true. Just look at powerlifters - huge and fat
@ILoveBackWoods have u checked out scooby's playlists? Theres categories for everything there. That should definitly help if u havent already checked it out.
Scooby, or anybody with advice for this matter, I need some help! I weigh 140, and I'm 5'9.. I'm SKINNY, but I know that I can gain some muscle. I really want some bigger pecs and arms(Forearms, biceps, ect). I'm not looking to be a body builder or anything, but just to tone up a little instead of just being skin and bones. My Dad is ripped so I know it's in my genes, but I need to know where to start? Pushups, pullups, cardio ect? Then work my way up to weights? Please help?!
@ILoveBackwoods Play tennis. Gives great arm muscles, great pecs and overall torso training. Well it would prolly take too long to play it good enough to be a form a training for you. ;/
@ILoveBackwoods Pushups, Pullups, Crunches (optional in my opinion). Eat good amount of protein (1-1.5grams per lb of bodyweight) split up among 4 or 5 small meals a day (whey protein isolate helps get a ton of protein without a ton of fat).
When you can easily do 3 or 4 sets of 15-20 of these exercises, step it up. Incline your feet to make pushups harder. Put on a backpack full of junk to make pullups harder.
Progressive overload, proper form, good nutrition, time. You will get bigger.
@samurphy Add some squats, lunges, and calf raises in there and you can do a lower body workout, if your legs are smaller than you'd like, too. Easy to step those up, backpack full of junk, again.
@PureDiamondFilms Shut up , "Free the world of fitness and Athletics...maybe the whole world from you -.-"
WTF is that even supposed to mean? doesn't make any sense . You shouldv'e just kept your stupid thoughts to yourself instead coming on youtube and making a fool of yourself.
I think some of these comments are pretty stupid. Its a workout video and somehow some people are getting into arguements about politics, military and oil companies. I think arguing should be done elsewhere, not in the comment section of this video.
@WillyWall1990 I apologize for posting these things here. I wouldn't have, except that I saw a comment that someone else posted that was very offensive to me and to many people in the military I know. I felt that I had the responsibility to defend them.
May I suggest that people doing the "hissing cat" pushups might be trying to work their front delts? Sure, not the best way to do it, but they might not be as stupid as they look.
Love your videos Scooby! I have been slacking this last semester because of school but I plan to get back to work next semester and hit the weights often!
Scooby can you do a video with vitamins and bodybuilding? I never knew that vitamin D was so important for musclar growth... I have been getting more sun and am seeing better results
Vitamin D isn't really all that directly important for muscle growth. It is very valuable for bone density, immune function, and neuromuscular performance.
It is good to get adequate amounts since training is taxing on your immune system and your bones need to be strong to support impact. You might be seeing better results from getting a darker tan from the sun which brings out definition.
Top of the list for muscle growth are amino acids to aid recovery.
5:40 - 5:45 sounds pretty weird if you're not watching the video...

It is VERY important that you look straight forward. They could not stress that enough in the marines. It maintains good posture very well.

Great info scoob, most lifters I know overlook pushups. One thing I have a problem with is doing mid back and shoulders with out involving my traps.

Scooby can you do a video with vitamins and bodybuilding? I never knew that vitamin D was so important for musclar growth... I have been getting more sun and am seeing better results
moarscooby 2 months ago
@moarscooby
