@MrJBSTINE I have zero interest in unmanned vehicles of any kind. Oh I suppose whithout knowing it there is probably some kind of unmanned thing we all need and want, but for the most part, I'm adverse to the topic. I used to get AviationWeek magazine and it was a mystery to me why they had articles about unmanned aircraft? Who are they printing that story for?...the robots? I pick up AWST to read about the exploits of men and women, not robots. Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
@MrJBSTINE The trouble with "bots" in jets is that for complex systems there is multiple computers. They need to cross-talk. If one computer gets wrong signal or interprets it wrong, then trouble happens. I can't think of an example off hand but maybe the F-22 crash is one.
@MrJBSTINE: "Manned planes will soon be obselete anyway i think!"
JM: Blasphemy! Don't say that. Never say that. Where's the glory in an unmanned plane? I would never go on an automated airliner, for instance. Not because it's not safe, because I'm sure the technology exists....but because it is anti-thesis to the glory of aviation.
@MrJBSTINE Of course it's better to be able to eject if necessary, but I'm just saying that I've read that those canopy det cords always injure during an ejection. You'd think they would come up with a better way by now. Det cord is 1950's technology.
My understanding is that the detonation cord on the canopy is very dangerous. If a pilot has to eject, the explosion sends shards of glass and hot shrapnel all over the occupants on their way out. 100% chance of injury during an ejection in that aircraft.
I like the moment where one pilot hands off the aircraft to the other pilot. That's team work. They cross check each other for safety awareness. That looks like a nice little jet to fly.
@m14lover1 has it not just got 2 throttles? as a fast jet trainer it makes sense as then each pilot becomes used to having the throttle in LH, stick in RH
@willwoodhouse i'm sure it does. auto throttle is an autopilot feature where the autopilot maintains the assigned speed. you can also adjust the thrust manually.
@m14lover1 yes i am aware of what autothrottle is, but i don't believe the JP has one, instead the only times when it would appear to be "autothrottling" are when the pilot in the left seat has control and given that the RAF (like most places teach you) if you have nothing to do with your free hand, it should be on the throttle
@m14lover1 Pilot on the Left has Throttle Control, as does the Pilot on the Right, When Pilot on the left moves Throttle it"s Interlinked with the Centre Throttle Control.
