  • I love Terminators and all... but this shows exactly how fast you can make an LSx ON MOTOR. MS4 (with valvetrain upgrades), headers, and an LS6 intake totals to roughly less than $1000 if you diy. You can pickup an LS1 fbody for at the least $8000. For $9000 you can have a car that outruns a $15,000 car, on motor. Forged/Boosted LSx's are way out of the 4.6's league. The Terminator is just a better starting point for guys that are crazy for boost. Overall, these have their ups/downs. BOTH SICK!

    Windsor pushrod motor is what you need to compare. GM is still using 1950 pushrod block. Ford at least has twin cam on its v8 and v6....

  • Ok camaros haven't had a 400hp motor either. It's a de-tuned vette motor that barely beats a mustang. Depending on year the gt had 40-160 less hp than the cobra. And it's a different motor. And once they did have 400hp, the mustang made the same power with 1l less. And any camaro before 2010 was garbage. Falls apart around the motor. Interior, exterior, wiring, the cars whole quality just sucked. Any intelligent person would pick a 05-12 mustang over any camaro previous to 2010. Much better qua

  • @occamsmike i have an 04 cobra, and i love the 98-02 SS/WS6(i am legally obligated to say the cobra is better though)...LS will make a ton of power w/fairly inexpensive mods. only thing i didn't care for in those cars was the interior. it always seemed kinda cheap. i think the cobra can make more power, but it's gonna cost me a lot more than it would you(cam swap - $2K, sc upgrade -$4K, turbo kit - $6-7K). like pretty much any car, it depends on how deep into your pockets you want to reach.

  • @Turbo05gt Barely beats a mustang?? My 02 ss on 26' slicks stock right to the paper filter with a m6 ran a 12.90. Name one stock 4.6 NA mustang that does that? Ive had a 90 foxbody with a 2.3 whipple 306 and a "f" cam gt40 heads. And a 01ss with a HPE "s" cam and stage 3 mti heads. Destroyed that mustang As far as the intertior being shit. The dashes are about the only non-quality part inside. Ive owned 6 fbodies and several mustangs. Performance wise...camaro all they way!

    my stock foxbodies with 3.08 and street tires do 13.99-14.5 consistently depending on driver/ 60' (i was in a car club of mostly fox mustangs)

    chevys.... garbage. no traction, sound like SHITTT. On the same track, same conditions we'd be hitting low 14's high 13's in stock stangs, and i'm watching c5 corvettes run 15.4 all day

  • @JustBurn I don't know what you think you saw, but a c5 should run high 12's/low 13's with proper driving, must have been some idiot driver that day. the GM pushrod engine has proved faster than ford until just recently with the new coyote 5.0. my LS1 will run with stangs all the way through 2010 model year and still win with just exhaust and a torque arm/traction bars (high 12's). The pushrod is also still used in the vette and is faster than most import supercars.

And Ford has been making SVT Cobras since 1993...and chevy stopped the camaros in 2002...because they knew the Terminator was coming out for 2003...they were smart and knew they couldn't compete with that at the time. The Mustang has never stopped production! So please save the "would have" for your chevy buddies

  • @rjacksonII08 so having Dual over head cams and 16 more valves breathing are is fare. No , think about the actual power out put not technical specifications of an engine. If its 4.6 liters making 320 at the fly wheel that's every bit of fare going up against a 5.7 liter , that is considered a lot less sophisticated having 320 at the flywheel.

  • The 03 Cobra is a 4.6L with a supercharger vs a ss 5.7L....so the supercharger is to make up for the difference in displacement. Plus the 4.6L stock bottom end can handle up to like 600-800HP NO PROBLEM! So it gives the Cobras a lot of room in the aftermarket world. Ford made it and called it the Terminator to terminate the camaros and t/as and take them off the map for what....5 years or so???

  • SS is all motor, with 100 more cubic inches (generalizing) then the cobra. I hate when people talk about engine characteristics, all motor doesn't = better, nor does small motor with boost = better, its all about personal preference.

  • @JerZeyFiveOh 281 vs 346, That's 65 cubic inches more with 1100 cc's more. Its also long block 4 cam 32 valve vs short block 1 cam 16 valve. Both are my favorite muscle cars(no shit) and make power in there own and completely different ways. That dual over head cam with 32 valves really makes up for its 65 cube disadvantage. Serious business those 4 cam v8's are ,like the 405 horse DOHC 32v 5.7 LT5 C4 ZR1 motor , made 130 more horsepower more than the 1 cam 16 OHV 5.7 lt1.

  • @IDontHateOnCars There is no law on how to engineer a motor to be best, its all about what its intended purpose what spec its built too. 03 Cobra was built for the Camaro SS F-body car point blank. They both got their strong points and weak points. The only thing we can rely on is who has the most dialed in setup to create the most damage on the street. Who's motor that can efficiently flow enough air, have enough power to overcome their weight, and be clear cut winner.

  • I have also been challenged numerous times. Not at the track, i have not taken it there so i do not have 'official' numbers, so to speak. I have gone from a dead stop to 60. Dead stop to 100 and a dead stop to 100 and back to zero. 0-60 in 4.33 seconds. 0-100 in 6.18 seconds and 0-100-0 in 10.12 seconds. The equipment used was the same equipment the military uses to measure the velocity of munitions, police radar, and a person with a simple stop watch.

But I have personally beat an 04 cobra 4v supercharged on the freeway, that being said I have no chance at a standstill or in the corners. btw i own a 2002 mustang 4.6l 2v Roush Stage 2, so i know what a 2v mustang can do and its loads slower than a v12 beast on the freeway

And yea the V12 does make a little over 400btw I'm glad to have a debate with an intelligent person on here lol

  • @migy8969 Looking at the numbers you would have to be on a very long stretch of road for the v12 to make it's presence known. Granted, it does make more power, it weighs over 1,200lbs over the stang. Weight is a crucial factor in racing. As much as people hate little hondas, a 200hp civic usually is a hard battle for a 300-400 stang/ls1/ supra.. Yeah you will catch up in time, but the v12 will be behind for quite some time. Just my personal opinion.

    You Gm guys kill me with this "all motor" stuff. Ford gives up so much displacement it's not even funny. Their smaller engines run with or past the GM engines.

  • @airbornbuckeye they dont' run PAST GM engine...yes indeed the new 5.0 makes 412 hp and the new LS3 makes 426..BUT..wich one has more potential?...the larger CI motor always has the most advantage in power to be made in the long run when it comes to modding wich 90% of ppl buying these cars will do...the ONLY time when a V8's CI displacement does'nt matter in my opinion is when it'f forged like the 03-04 cobra's...they had a huge advantage of making mad HP with stock internals
