  • ilove it

  • This is folk song mainly from Guangxi province that pass down from generation to generation. They usually dont write the songs down in words, they just sing sing sing and sing everyday at home, in the field, doing chores, and hanging out etc....back in the old days, that is how they mate (as in finding their lovers). One standing on one cliff while the other in another cliff and sing. Their feeling is in the song. They making them up as their feeling goes..very talented.

  • is movie portraying han culture?

  • beatiful mountains, though pitty that I do not understand

  • I have these movie in LP version. They don't make LP for many years. One of the best Chinese Folk movie ever. Love the wonderful mandarin songs in the movie.

  • Thank you very much :)

  • The natural landscape in China, here in the U.S. and in other countries were much more beautiful because we did not have so many people. With exploding population growth comes excessive consumption and development. Thus the beautiful nature like we see in this movie is gone forever! Very sad.

    Thanks for uploading this movie.

  • My favourite movie! It's on Amazon with English subtitles too (^_^)

  • This comes from a folk legend of south China, dating back thousands of years. When Liu San Jie sang, everyone was spirited by her voice. Then one day, the son of an oppresive landloard proposed marriage, and she was forced to flee ilto the mountains............

  • 经典,good song

  • This movie's name is Liu San-jie. Or Third Sister Liu

  • Omg, I remember this as a kid. I finally found it.

    Thank you uploader! 5/5

  • i am also white and enjoy this movie where is subtitles so i can watch again please? GREAT MOVIE !!!!!!! xie xie ni

  • i grow with these songs singed by ma mama. i miss this periode... love it for ever!!

  • Put class struggle ideology aside, this movie is an artistic classic.

  • @wheresbeef

  • oh...i miss it

  • Do not ay her voice like a chipmunk her voice is actually nice to hear. I love her voice. I seen this video before. I had it. Her voice is very sweet.

  • Shi zhong guo ge. Shi er bei de place yin hui you he

  • Everything was dubbed in those days including the dialogue, they don't have digital song, not even stereo in 1961 in this movie. Once I watched a movie been made, the actors were lipsyned, they all moved their lips and the studio work will do the rest.

  • The actress isn't actually singing... the songs were dubbed in after the show was shot. I forgot who the actual singer was though.

  • what's this song called? Need a searchable name if I'm to find it & I'm White... =D

  • tis movie brings back the memories =] =)

  • watching her movie remind me when i was a baby. Listening to her singing made me feel like im in heaven. I really love the whole thing.

  • 刘三姐 me recuerdo mi ifansia grasias grasias :)

  • Seeing these 2 comments below really makes me laugh

  • would the previous poster

    please remove the

    chipmuck comment please

this woman is a relative of mine

    thank you

  • i never saw this movie... her voice sounds like a chipmunk... the scenery is beautiful!

  • shes pretty.

  • yan yan zuo mei?

  • What is this song??? i love it and i cant find it ANYWHERE!!!!

  • My dad has the one with english translation.

  • Hi mate, I have been looking for this film for a long time! I found it now! Thanks a lot!!!

  • i went to gaungxi during winter

    NEVER go there during winter

    1. its freezing

    2. the water level goes down

    3. there is nothing to do

    4. it snows unexpectedly

    5. all of the river animals are in hibernation

  • guangxi is a neat place in spring

  • Hi! I am a Japanese and my father is a Chinese. He often saw this movie and I too saw this together when I was a kid. This movie is a movie of my memory!! Liu San Jie...I remember her! Thanks for posting(*^_^*)

  • hey...that actress is from guang xi ...not hakka, i am pretty sure of that.

  • this is so eerie.. my family had the record of this movie and songs when I so young.. now decades later.. I come across it on youtube..

  • yes,the movie Liu San Jie came 1st. It was banned in certain countries because it was singing against the landlords. Kind of poor against the rich. it was a good movie and HongKong copied some of its rymes to its movie "San Ker Lian" & later "san ker yin yuan"

  • I brought this VCD back from China with me. Such beautiful scenery. Such wonderful singing. I can watch this opening scene for hours on end. I wish I could go to Guangxi now.

This is such a departure from the overtly political movies of the early 60's. I believe it is one of China's first musicals.

  • I bought the VCD.. ahhh some of my beautiful childhood memories just came back. This was the first movie I saw in China when I was 8. So innocent and serene.

  • I bought the VCD.. ahhh some of my beautiful childhood memories just came back. This was the first movie I saw in China when I was 8. So innocent and serene.

  • I'm pretty sure 刘三姐 is not Hakka.

  • Nature and girl are beautiful, i love china.

  • love Liu San Jie !!!!

  • THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!

  • This movie was quite similar with the movie in 1960's named " Shan Ge Lian`" which played

by Guan Shan (Hongkong star Guan ZhiLin's Dad)and Yueh Feng.I don't know which one came

first, but I never heard of this movie till now ,thanks for sharing so classic movie!

  • This movie comes first at 1960. and shaw brothers' movies comes at at 1964. Actually, so called the huamei movie of love eterne are also follow the mailand movie. 'tian xian pei.

  • i don't understand and have no idea what the hell she singing...... but it looks a classic movie......

  • Are You Chinese? or do you speak Chinese? if you do not understand Chinese, how do you know " what THE HELL" she is Singing? 刘三姐 is one of the popular movie in 60s to 70s, most of the oversea Chinese knew and love it. I have watched this movie more than twenty time.

  • Dead On!!!

  • ???

  • Your reply is right on to the idiotic comment of " what THE HELL" . It is a compliment to your comment.

  • hey i go to that place on december 23-30 and a girl wan marry me there haha, she is also like 刘三姐,if anyone wants to go to that place...its in guiling of china, the view there is very beautiful

  • Hey, does anyone know of the title to the Movie that Jet Li played in... Its kinda similar to this... it was when he was every young... Boy's on one side of the river and a family on the other side of the river, but he only have all girls... so he kept trying to get a Boy and finally got one....

Any Idea?? if so let me know...

  • @pajyeeblo It's called Kids from Shaolin or Shaolin Temple 2.

  • Thanks for posting :)

  • good...good sound of liu 3rd sis...

  • I love the story of Liu San Jie. There are many s tributes to her in Liuzhou and Guilin China. Today Guilin is a tourist city. What's great is this move was shot in the Guilin, so you can see what it was like 50 years ago.

  • i love this movie..simply because i admire her strength and sense of righteousness. A rare movie depicting a strong female lead...especially in the male dominated society at that time ( 1961)

  • wow, um it sounds nice, where do you think I can see this in english?

  • With English subtitle? No idea...

  • @bigpigmouth: This is amovie, so you can buy the dvd if you are very interested. I don't imagine it's very easy to find outside of China, but in the area around Yangshuo it is almost impossible to escape. The movie has subtitles.
