2. It's where you change so that instead of facing left and holding right, you're facing right and holding left - kinda hard to explain.  Watch the mp_sonic walkthrough, I believe it's used on there.

@sttate They're just measurement units the game uses. I think the in-game character is meant to be 6 feet tall, and that's 72 units, so if you really want to calculate the true distance then you can do, but it doesn't really matter much.

Heres a friendly tip for people such as myself with FPS issues, My PC is a piece of cheese, with a blue light ><. To get increased FPS in Call of Duty 4 you first want to check in your console if the game is running in Full Screen mode (Or in other words checking if windowed mode is on or off), You want to turn windowed mode off, and then u want to change ure current monitor size to either 640x480 or 800x600, YES IT WILL BE SMALL BUT I GOT URE FPS TO A STABLE 125 250 or 333 :D

@666Heratic If it goes to Backlot then you're probably loading the wrong gametype. You want 'cj' gametype if you're using the 'codjumperv3_1' mod.

@oneinchwunda AFAIK there is no way of knowing for sure exactly how far you jump, other than playing on a jumper training map and knowing that you've jumped 'at least' a certain distance.

Make sure you're using 125 FPS. The key to this technique is to start facing further away than you would normally (i.e. around 120 degrees), and then starting by holding left (or right) AND forward at the same time, instead of starting running straight and then adding left/right.

It depends on the jump, in this case 125fps has a greater effect than any other fps. Although if you can control 333fps you may be able to do 317 units with a really good strafe, try the Crash bounce with 125fps then with 250fps. Then try the Pipeline bounce with 125fps then with 250fps, you will see the difference in some cases.
