This scene was great. Because I had a friend over when this came on. She saw me cry. Felt like a fool. But had to show her the true love I had for this show.
Please could you tell me in wich season appear this scene?...it truly beautiful and sadness...i think the best in all Smallville history...thanks for the upload
I think what tugs those heartstrings extra hard is that there's really nothing like the bond a child has with a father who knows how to be a great dad. My little girl hugs me and never wants to let go and every time her sweet voice calls out "Daddyyyyy!" I get a little choked up inside knowing that some day, I'm gonna have to say good-bye. There's nothing like a "Daddy's" love and I think it's THAT fact that gets everybody lachrymose by the end of this scene.
NO ONE CAN EVER UNLIKE THIS! MOST OF MY FRIENDS LOST THEIR FATHER AT A YOUNG AGE, MOST I LOST FRIENDS AT A YOUNG AGE, LOTS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCE THIS IN OUR LIVES! I STILL WATCH THAT SCENE TIL THIS DAY!
This scene doesnt effect me until Johnathon says "Bye-bye" I rewind it to that twenty times and I just sob. John reminds me of my father, who isn't doing well health wise. I don't know if he'll be there at my wedding, or get to see my own kids. He was married before and got to do it all with my oler sibblings, who are in their 30's, but I'm only 14
@gleekable14 I know how you feel i'm 13 and my daddy might not get to see me grow up and sometimes i just cry about it but then i realise it's best to be strong and support him and Smallville has inspired me in series 5 and onwards, like the way Clark has to deal with the grief and how it effects him and also this scene always brings tears to my eyes,i just don't want that to be me one day :/
@XxMemooRosexX Ya. I love this show, and after Jonathon died, the way clark dealt with it really helped me to understand to love the time I have left with my father.
@gleekable14 I know that this is 3 months too late, but he will always be there for you. No matter what. My father abandoned my sister and I, and I wish I had the luxury of feeling the love of a father like clark and you have experienced. I hope this helps you.
What season its this episode? I started seeing smallville 2 months ago, and im almost at the end of Season 3... This part made me cry, so i wanted to know what season it's this, to i go watch quicly!
does anyone have any idea what the song is in the background? ive tried everything trying to find it. sounds like an original piece for this scene which im hoping its not.....
It hurts so much 2 see this clip, i cry alot because I miss Johnathan Kent so much and between the part when Johnathan says "goodbye" then to when clark cries lose it the most. RIP Johnathan Kent - My Dad
even tho he is the man of steel he still has a heart this marked the beginning of clarks destiny and if have watched season 10 episode "homecoming" clark burrys the watch he has on and lets his past fall behind him cause clark new even tho is dad is gose he will be with him no mater where he gose
You knw i guess sumtyms wen i jst miss being human en not crying i jst watch this clip and everything jst seems to fall into....i cry..i luv this scene..watch it everyday...
I didn't cry but I was definitely moved. People have invested emotion into Jonathan and he was a great character with a tragic demise. He's like the father (most of us) never had.
right when johnathan says bye bye, and you see that tear come down clarks face......dang.....very emotinal. especially if you've been watching the series for so long before this scene and are so used to seeing these characters in every episode.
When I watched this episode for the first time, I cried, even when I was 14 by that time. It's just a series, but for me it's my childhood, being a fan of Superman and stuff related.
And if the man of steel can cry, everybody in this world are allowed to do so, no matter how old they are. Who laughs at people who are not afraid to show their emotions by crying is a jerk.
It's always hard when you can relate to losing a loved one and then watching home movies of you and that person. it's probably one of the most saddest experiences in life.
I keep coming back to see these sad scenes and it makes me realize how much the WB was able to make such an EPIC 5th and last pure season of smallville and the last season to be aired on the WB channel before the channel was switched to myATL and half the WB's showes was moved to the CW, lest they where able to continue it ok, and season 6 was pretty heroic too!..I like the Chloe, Oliver and Clark working together to defeat evil idea, and hope to maybe see more of it in comics of the show,
I allways get that Im going to cry well up in my throat. In a way jonathan Kent was a Father to me growing up watching smallville it would of been nice to have a father like him.
This scene still sheds a tear in my eye, but I was so happy Clark finally got to see Jonathan one last time in the afterlife in Void. Both are beautiful scenes
Damn this scene...5 years later...is still a KILLER! The final "bye-bye" by Jonathan and then the cut to the close up of the watch. Woo, that hurts! :'(
John Schneider is the man though. He understood the character of Jonathan Kent inside out!
ahhh this scene kills me. i teared up so bad. tom welling is such a good actor but they dont really give him any really emotional stuff anymore. i really want them to do something that shows off his acting chops soon like i dont know make lois get really hurt or something so we can see how incredible tom is again. jonathan kent was everyone's father. i learned so much from him (cause i never had a dad)
Sure I get a little sad at emotional scenes in tv or movies, but I'm not the kind of person that gets tears at them. Tears have never fallen from my eyes at those times...and then I saw this scene when it aired...and then happened again just now when I found it here. It was a goon run for not getting tears at the tv.
its not pathetic at all, its such a moving scene especialy when john says bye in the vid, im pretty sure everyone had tears in their eyes at that point
Great scene and I think the reason it's captured so much attention is that Tom Welling seemed to embrace the idea of letting go. He was definitely in this scene with all his strength.
Its just a show.....But for someone like me that can relate....I am saddened by this clip and moment in Smallville. I cried and still do everytime I see this clip. Smallville is one hell of a show!
Really moving sad scene! Sad scenes rock if done right! Had me cry one tear along with Clark in the middle there and usually I won't cry for dead puppies!
This show had a wonderful talent behind the music, which is the main reason it lasted more than three seasons. At 1:57, you'll see this person's name. This is the real reason why the show is so moving. Give this man the credit he deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
btw I heard Annette O'Toole talking about that scene as being real. Tom Welling did cry as John Schneider was leaving the show. That's what makes this scene so special and yet so sad. It just felt real.
I have to give a mention to my fav character Lex played by the brilliant MR who plays the character with soo much intensity and emotions. Lex's story is actually tragic after following his develpment.
whats with John and his tragic deaths first here which was bad enough then i actually started watching Secret life of american teenager as annoying as it was just because he was there then he freaken dies. wtf john wtf
this last scene just gets me everytime. Smallville does this to u which is why it's one of the best written shows on TV. You just get so emotionally involved with all the characters. The story maybe fictional but it portrays a certain reality about life and our loved ones. I cried when he says 'bye bye' and when I see the pain on Martha's face, then when she embraces him and then to see Clark leting it out ,the pain of losing his beloved father is just too much. That scene/acting is perfection!
I don't know why I came and watched this...no other ending on Smallville is as beautifully sad as this one...I always start crying like a baby when Jonathan says "this young man's a man of steel" The music is so pretty...
damn if i was lana i would make clak feel so happy aboutt what he did i mean he fucking lost his dad that to me is the utimate sacifice lana you better be dan greatful and live
bah noone actually knows the name of this song nooooooo. love this scene and i must agree with all this scene still gets me teary eyed when i see it great writers, great actors, great show
As a fan I actually started to miss seeing John Schieder after this episode. He's the best actor to play Jonathan in my opinion. It broke my heart when he said goodbye on the tv. What's even sadder is that Jonathan kent never saw who his son turned out to be.
Whenever I doubt Smallvilles's ability to write powerful, meaningful stories, I come back to this scene and remember how amazing this show can be. Smallville has been a show that has had tremendous highs and lows, but when it's high, like this scene, it's hard to find better television.
I'm a 20 year old guy in the military and I admit that this scene has brought out tears from me every time, I practically bawled the first time I saw it.
Smallville's most perfect scenes are those without words =')

I don't think there is a particular name for the song. It was probably something composed by the show's composer, specifically for this scene.
