  • amazing animal

  • Did you ever have a Florida panther that you rescued? And was this one able to be rehabilitated?

  • @ryuslayer We've rescued many cougars, but we have never been called upon to home/rehab an injured Florida Panther. All the cougars in this video except for the three at the end (Ares, Artemis and Orion) were former pets that people no longer wanted or were unable to care for.

  • @BigCatRescue Speaking as a life-long wild cat lover, I want to say thank you to every person working there for all your hard work to protect and restore these amazing animals. Your dedication and what you do means a lot to me as a nature lover, and what your sanctuary does is extremely honorable and deserves the highest praise possible. I hope to be fortunate enough to visit your sanctuary someday. I wish your facility and staff the best of luck in all that you do this year to help these cats.

  • @Guigley Thank you for the support we're doing our best, I hope you can visit the sanctuary in the future and see the cats in person :)

  • They are all absolutely gorgeous but Shadow seemed to stick out to me a lot. Perhaps it was the structure of his head. He seemed very majestic and regal to me. Truly beautiful. Big cats are gifts from god. They are just...magical <3

  • How long do they live? These guys seem fairly old haha.

  • @ShootTheZombies In the wild they usually live 10-12 years in captivity this can be doubled because you can give them a good diet and vet care etc... We had one cougar named Scratch that lived to be 29 years old, the oldest cougar that we know of!

  • @BigCatRescue Has there ever been a time when one of the 'BIG CATS' actually fought each other, not just play? Or do they even do that?

  • @CandyandCowgirls Occasionally the cats have a "disagreement" but it never lasts long and they always make up with each other :)

  • why do a lot of the big cat have a flap of scin on their bellies? is that normal?

  • @pianolove72 We get asked this question a lot, yes it is normal, cats in the wild gorge on their kills eating huge amounts in one sitting, they also stretch, leap etc... so that extra skin is there for a reason. It is sometimes more prominent in the cats we have rescued since they were fed a poor diet or were over weight etc...

  • Are all of your cats spayed and neutered, or do you participate in some breeding programmes?

  • @gsmonks All couples are to prevent them from breeding and we fix cats that live alone as and when we can. Our cats come form backyards and basements and are crossbred and/or inbred so they would be able to take part in any species survival breeding programs.

  • its KAREN the cougar!

  • These enclosures are really natural and beautiful. Lucky cats!

  • ummm, hate to be a stickler, but TECHNICALLY, cougars (pumas, mountain lions whatever you want to call them) are actually very large SMALL cats and not actually a big cat.

    very beautiful though

  • I would probably loose a hand after just one day working there. They re beutiful!

  • I would probably loose a hand after just one day working there. They re beutiful!

  • DEADLY

  • 0:03

    HEY, I'm watching you!

  • @BigCatRescue How can u tell the Cougars apart. They look the same lol

  • @kakuzu458 After you work around them for years you can distinguish which is which pretty easily :)

  • first cougar is like wtf are you looking at lol

  • first cougar is like whats my lines again?

  • When I was a kid, my mom dated this guy that 'owned' cougars in Nevada. Had a decent sized space for them and a small food enclosure area. He let me pet him [great idea, a 13 year old playing with wild animals] and the purr seemed to rattle the air. As I left the cougar reached under the wire and pawed at my jeans, ripping a hole in them. While the motion itself was just playful, it taught me a lesson; even their playful actions are deadly and really should not be pets. Was a sweet cat though.

  • I live in L.A. and do plenty of hiking and have never seen a cougar (mountain lions as we call them here) on the trail. Thanks goodness, I'd rather we avoid each other. I'm glad you're taking care of the ones that live at the sanctuary.

  • It's soooo beautiful....

  • 1:20 CUTE KITTY!!!! Awww I want to hug them

  • Are you able to touch the animals?

like, Can the trainers, Or people running big cat rescue able to pet them with no problem?

  • @thekait294 No, we have a strict no contact policy, it's simply too dangerous to allow contact with these wild animals.

  • cougars to me have such a small head compared to the rest of their body lol!!

  • Are female cougars usually more docile than male ones? I heard that was why University of Houston would always have a female cougar for their mascot, until 1989 when they stopped using live cougars for a mascot and only had them for special occasions like homecoming events.

  • @ApacheMan2K Not in my experience, they can be equally aggressive as male cougars.

  • What beautiful creatures

  • i got mountain lions were i live 0_o

  • It looks ticked..."WTF are you looking at?!?" *stares back*

  • beginning cougar: 83

  • Awww! So kawaii =w= I especially love the beginning /\(^A^)/\...Cougar : owo......Me: o_o

  • I once touched a cougar. I live in AZ, where cougars are seen in the desert. I was there with my family and I was like 6 yrs old and I heard this growl behind me, it was big ass cougar! I thought, "I'm gonna end up on the news for a cougar attack!" But since I was a curious kid, I touched it's head and it roared and I was like, "OH SHIT!" so I ran away. I think it was just defending it's territory because it didn't chase after me.

  • @citrusmangos WOW! Are you sure this is true :) ??

  • @citrusmangos cougars are pro hunters and don't make noise when hunting prey. YOUR STORY IS A WHOLE PILE OF BULLSHIT.

  • @KRewind She/he said that it was probably just defending its territory

  • @KRewind Keep in mind that if it was just defending it's turf then they'll likely give warning growls, so they can figure out who's just trespassing and who's either an intentional attacker or too stupid to GTFO. They're pro hunters, yes, but they're not mindless murderers, either.

  • those r my fav big cats of all time

  • Whats everyones infatuation with having bigs cats as pets? I cannot understand this. These are not cute cuddly cats at all. They are not gonna sit on your lap and watch TV with you. They are not going to act like house cats at all.

  • They are so sweet!

  • ha at the begining cougar dint know wat to do

  • @BigCatRescue Wait... Aries, Artemis, and Orion... Those aren't the little tiny guys I saw some years ago... are they??

  • @BekkaLenore Yep, they're all grown up now :)

  • They are just BEAUTIFUL ._.

  • they only have 3 cougars, and they just re-winded that tape and make some random names up so it looks like there are many cougars there

  • @RebornMotherfunker Nope, we currently have 12 cougars at BCR :)

  • i wodner what would happen if i walked into there with my nads covered in peanut butter

  • Damn, Mac's a beast. Awesome.

  • any plans on adding them to the studbook, with strict laws the gene pool for captive animals in north America is limited. Your cats could increase bio-diversity.

  • @ImSoOffended All of our cats are cross bred and/or inbred coming from a multitude of different captive situations, so they are not suitable for captive breeding programs.

  • can cougars breed with leopards & jaguars like they do with lions & tigers? and also, is there any jaguar at all at big cat rescue?

  • @isingjazz83 Yes this is possible, but there's no reason to do this. We don't currently have any jaguars at the sanctuary.

  • they are pure killer instinct!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful animals

  • Do you know why Shadow was making the squeaking noises? Was it just kinda... to make noises, or was there some known general message?

  • @mumble9 Quite a lot of our cougars "talk" it is a way of saying "hi" and just responding to our noises :)

  • How long can cougars live?

  • @TheRealVenna In the wild most cat species live around 10-12 years old, in captivity you can double this. As far as we know BCR had the oldest ever cougar - Scratch who lived to be 29 years old!

  • who's a pretty kitty

  • awwww.... such cuties lmao

  • You can see how healthy these cats are their teeth are in great condition would want to inspect em too closely though lol. You can see their muscles bulge when they walk. A cat in captivity yes but heh i wouldnt wanna mess with em. Here kitty kitty kitty!

  • what kind of rescue is this that they are in cage.

  • @adanilia We rescue them from bad captive situations, they cannot be released into the wild as many people think, the only thing we can do is provide the best life possible in captivity...

  • @BigCatRescue I think it's sad that people naturally assume that cages make you a bad guy, your my favorite channel on YouTube but even I admit in a perfect (or should we say purrrfect) world BCR wouldn't even have to exist. If people would only understand the importance of protecting wildlife then we could just get rid of the cages altogether.

Of course there will always be people who want to capture, trade and make a buck off these animals...i'm just glad you guys are here to rescue them.

  • @8KingFisher We agree, our ultimate goal is to put ourselves out of business, we wish we didn't have to exist but we do.....

  • @BigCatRescue I'm just glad you guys are around, animals need all the help they can get these days >.<

  • 0:52......nnnn nice kitty

  • What a natural born killer. i held my breath 0.37 seeing its beautiful head pop round the corner pretending to walk past. Amazing!

  • I would love to volunteer, but my urge to pet the big pretty kitties would probably get me killed.

  • is mac purring at the end of that clip of him?

it sounds a lot like the way domestic cats purr out loud when they're exhaling like that.

do cougars even purr at all?

  • @inbetweentics Yes, cougars are the largest species of cat that can purr :)

  • @BigCatRescue sweet... but its too bad that they cannot live in the wild as they had not been raised too or just cant.... ugh damn ppl who exploited such magnificent animals....

  • OMG the eyes! beautiful animal <3

  • Are these cats strong enough to kill a man?

  • @TheGnB517c Definitely!

  • @TheGnB517c They kill deer for their prey...they can surely kill a man.

  • To any that want a big cat as a pet. Think of it this way: You know how sometimes your house cat will playfully bite and swat at you? Now think of how it is when your house cat is 2x your size and can take your hand off.

And people that have big cats and children? They should have neither.

  • it's steve french

  • just watching, no extreme activity...

  • they are not doing anything

  • Cougars are the most beautiful cats in the world and I love their growl too. I wouldn't want o be near one that wasn't restrained somehow though. I value my blood being inside my body. My son *he's four and has autism* thinks they are house cats that say meow. Do you have any where they are growling or roaring? I'd love to share that sound with him.

  • @TheRealVenna Sorry for the late reply, your comment didn't register in our inbox! Have you seen our "funny crazy BIG CAT SOUNDS" video? If not your son will love that vid! :)

  • Here's a question- how often do you catch flak from misguided animal rights organizations for what they perceive are poor living conditions for these animals? I ask because these animals look healthy, and their enclosures look sufficient- but I would still guess that every so often, somebody gets on your case despite your good intentions.

  • @KajexFiredrake There are lots of people out there who do not like us because of what we are doing and what we stand for, but any organizations with any sort of credit are aware of our great our sanctuary is!

  • Hopefully yall can save as many wild cats as possible and they will be less threatened

  • i wanna be a vet when i get older.helping animals like these beautiful cats your so lucky to see them...

  • Is it true that (under the right circumstances) a cougar could be kept as a pet? I'm just asking because I read a biography about a man who owned a cougar, and it went pretty well.

  • @RealBronzeClaws They can unfortunately be kept as "pets" in many states, this is something that BCR is trying to put an end to. These animals roam hundreds of square miles in the wild, for them to be place in a cage in someone's backyard just isn't right. Not to mention that these are wild animals and always will be no matter what you do, they're unpredictable and obviously are very dangerous, they do not make good "pets"

  • @BigCatRescue Are they soft?

  • @Doctalen The only time I've touched a big cats is when they are sedated for surgeries etc.... we have no contact with the cats at BCR, they are coarse

  • @BigCatRescue Are ok thought some would be sorta tamed. Always wondered what a big cat feels like.

  • @BigCatRescue i understand where your pov is, but let be honest not all people keeping them are bad, it may fall under circumstance where they may be neglated as young and some people are just good hearted people and want theses cats to be cared for. instead of putting an end forsay, maybe more regulation and more promoted that if your gonna actually go through with it, you better off imformed, great vid btw =)

  • @powerslider1000 We are constantly fighting for tighter regulation and laws regarding the private ownership of these cats, we need to stop this problem at the root. True not all the people who own these cats are bad people, they're just ignorant to the fact that these are wild animals and don't belong in backyard cages for their amusement.

  • I have always heard that cougars/mountain lions are solitary, long ranging cats with huge territories. Do captive bred cats still retain that kind of instinct? How do you house them together without issues? Are they spayed/neutered?

Great video, enjoyed reading your answers to other people's questions. Much success to you and your rescue.

  • @muddysneakers I'm sure captive bred cats would like to roam huge territories, we do not breed at BCR, any cats that are living together when we rescue them we do our best to keep them together so they have some companionship. But if it's obvious that they would prefer to live alone like most cats do we separate them. Any cats that do live together we spay and neuter them :)

  • Exactly how long do Cougars live?

  • @DetectiveTective Most wild cat species live to be 10-12 years old in the wild, but in captivity we can double this, we had a cougar live to be 29, the oldest on record as far as we know!

  • @BigCatRescue O.o AWESOME lol

  • these things are so cool cause theyre just like huge versions of housecats!

  • @Skaterdude4321 When a house cat bites you you curse.

    When a cougar bites you.....

  • I have a question.

The name of your place is big cat rescue. Does that mean they are just rescue cats being put back into the wild or are they there to stay?

  • @Karmathewolf Hi, we rescue these captive cats from backyards, basements, fur farms etc... They have never seen the wild and captive bred cats are very, very rarely released into the wild. Our cats are not candidates however their genetic history cannot be traced, many are cross bred and inbred, they associate people with food and lack hunting skills, they would become nuisance animals and would not survive. They have a permanent home once we rescue them :)

  • wow pumas (or cougars or mountain lions) sure live long

  • shadow is awsome :D

  • i almost crapped my self at the start when it was staring at me lol

  • WOW thanks for the video and rescuing these beautiful animals

  • are they going to ever be released back into the wild?

  • May I have one as a pet?

  • damn they have a huge tail

  • so beautiful

  • @ERPPP This isn't really true, it all depends on the size etc...

  • I know they are wild at heart and fully capable of tearing me to shreds but they are soooo cute!!! They look so peaceful at BCR, just doin' their cougar thing! It makes me happy to see animals happy, roaming around at their leisure and unmanipulated by man.

  • @VooDooLynx Unmanipulated? The cats are in captivity.

  • Were the fences made circular for the animals or just because it was practical?

  • @guyon2342 The circular design makes it easier to build the enclosures, plus the cage are much stronger rather than being square with straight edges etc.. Our cages are built so that winds can pass through them and they act like huge trampolines if a tree branch falls on top the cage design spreads out the impact and the integrity of the cage is not altered :)

  • @BigCatRescue Ah, ok thx! Just wondering :P

  • i could tell wht he was thinking from theat evil stare in the beginning: "when i get out of this cage i'm gonna give you something to film"

  • shadow was going " hey hey HEY hey HEY"

  • can i haz 1

  • Haha just an over grown kitty :P

    cute :)

  • Almost ALL of the cougars are older than me (not the ones at the end though)

  • Is there a type of big cat that is generally more friendly towards humans than others? I want to jump in the cage with all of them and love on them all day long, (don't worry, I won't), but they're just so precious! Realizing that they're all wild animals, I'm simply curious just for curiosity sake if you guys have noticed if one species is generally more affable and friendly towards people?

  • @pyite23 There are certain individuals when reacting to certain people they may "like" but the simple answer is no they are wild animals and are always unpredictable and dangerous no matter how long you have worked with them or how well you think you know them. Just look at Seigfried and Roy....

  • Is it true that cougars back legs are longer than their front legs and they can jump over 20ft?

  • @vnllagrl89 Yes, their hind legs are larger and they can jump up to 20ft across openings etc.. Amazing animals!!

  • awww.... look at those big kitty eyes .... only if i could pet it with out it tearing my throat off.... (:

  • Im suppose to be doing homework but instead i am watching videos of all the cats on here! I think this is such a wonderful organization that is doing such a great thing! I have worked with big cats before at a previous internship and I can say it would be an honor to work there!

  • it looked royaly pissed off at the start when it wrnt doing anything

  • Have you ever seen the Bigcathaven user on youtube. It made me pretty mad they refereed to all there animals as pets. But they backed up organizations that try to put a stop to laws about banning having exotic pets. I just want your take on the user.

  • @b4igetu These are ignorant people who breed their cats and probably sell/trade cats also to make money, they don't care about conservation or animal welfare, it's sad that this is legal, this is something we want to put a stop to.

  • Kitty, Kitty!

  • i would absoulutly love to work here, as an aspiring biologist, big cats are among my favorite animals, i would do anything to work here

  • Have any of your cougars often made whistling sounds?

  • @ApacheMan2K Yeah, all the time, they are the most vocal species of cat we have at BCR :)

  • 0:35 What a wonderful shot of him peeking from behind the tree!

  • i play with a couger in my back yard.

it rcognized me from when it was a cub.

his mom had a broken paw so i took him in and his mom went to the vet.

  • you couldnt pay me enough to get that close to a cougar just looking in his eyes freaks me out

  • ask them why they keep killing me in red dead

  • These are beautiful cats, I would give anything to work here.

  • Pretty sure I saw a Cougar once, he was out in the open on a back country road and I was watching him from a nearby river. He/she was probably about 150-200 metres away and once he saw me he jaunted off, maybe I got lucky.

  • @shivakrishnarama Very cool, where was this ?

  • @BigCatRescue Merritt, British Columbia, Canada.

  • @shivakrishnarama That would be a privilege to see a cougar in the wild, you were very lucky!

  • @BigCatRescue ze zijn zo mooi

  • "stare..." umm? why is that cougar only staring??

  • I want one :(

  • truly amazing cats.

by the way, i can't seem to access your website, is it undergoing maintenance or has it been taken down or something?

  • @nebbalf I agree, yes our website may be acting weird as we are transitioning to a more interactive CMS design on more powerful servers.

  • Beautiful animals :)

  • I would love to sit on a bench somewhere nearby and simply listen to these cats. I love the sound of their purring. It's so rich.

  • I didn't know cougars made little chirpy mewing noises! Funny and cute : )

  • good names u give your cats^^

I like artemis and orion especially

  • what cats make that awesome "RAWR" sound, not that "roar" or "grrr" any other but that "RAWR" its a cat with black dots on it, dont know the name if it or the name of that sound, please help :(

  • @YoungMaqler Jaguar.

  • What is a cougar's average life span?

  • @ApacheMan2K In the wild 10-12 years in captivity you can double this, we had a cougar that lived to be 29!

  • where's Narla

  • @MinkisBaby This video is from 2008, Narla wasn't living at bCR at this time :)

  • what a waste of time

  • @dalton45637 What were you expecting??

  • @BigCatRescue Propably Arnold Schwarzenegger, who knows?

  • @BigCatRescue

Don't mind Dalton45637 , clearly he was just born with an unusually large stick up the bum.

  • what a waste of 3 min

  • I love everyone in this video. Their eyes are beautiful. I really love those little "words" they were saying......bigger versions of my two brats at home. thanks for posting the video.

  • That is a big kitty.

  • Is it true that the Florida panther is almost extinct? And that Fl panthers are mixed with mountain lions? My science teacher told me this.

  • @TC320TV It's true that their numbers are really low (around 100) I know they introduced some cougars to Florida to try and prevent inbreeding this is probably what your teacher was talking about :)

  • @BigCatRescue Florida panthers and mountain lions or cougars are not different species though, it is a variation within one species similar to humans. So the offspring would not be considered F1

  • @BigCatRescue i like cougars bobcats cheethas lynx and snow leopards

  • Do you guys protect these cats against poachers? Big cats are amazing ;)

  • @DefqonBlackOps We work with many conservation organizations that are trying to end poaching and habitat loss/conflict with people :)

  • Cats are my passion :) And i was questioning, i already asked before if you had any clouded leopard, but now i'm wondering if you have any jaguarundi? And what about a black jaguar ? Ohhh they are soooo cute (^^) I would love to spend my life rescuing these magnificent animals .. they deserve it so much
