  • stinks that the 2T22's are gone :(

  • @amtrak3501 Are the 2T22's gone? I came back up US231 from TN and was gonna go by there, but it had just gotten dark.

  • I think the STH-10 is a single phase siren, that's why it probably sounds so low pitched

  • 3:12 the 2t22 vs the 2001 wind down

  • excellent!!! beautiful classic sirens, that sing the most beautiful song!!

  • excelent harmony

  • I love the ambiance, those old federals are real attention getters!

  • All the different classic sirens! ITs...beautiful! No electronic crap!

  • I love the Resonance Between the Two 2T22's. About 1 Hz Difference Makes it sound Absolutley Beautiful!

  • ah, I can't tell you how many hungover saturday mornings at 10am this occurred on. A new month!

  • In the clock tower, is that a bell, or a 2/3t22, cause it's hard to tell. Beautiful ambience!!

  • That sounds really cool!

  • why are there 2 sirens so close together ? for wider cover , or louder sound ?

  • nice ambience, but still: that poor STH-10!

  • 2t22 and 3t22 alert 00:17 lol

  • love the video

  • wow. all the xt22s run in perfect harmony with each other

  • are electronic sirens like the 612 louder, as loud as ,or quieter than classics?

  • kinda stupid to put a siren in the bell tower

  • what siren is that in the bell tower

  • No siren in the bell tower, just bells. Well, bell shaped speakers.

  • Any reason why they put a siren INSIDE the clock tower? Is it like the bell?

  • i so heard a federal signal 2T22 go of

  • Awesome video man!!

  • There is actually at least one Federal Modulator across the river in Lafayette, a 3-cell model near a city park.

I agree completely - dual-tone sirens grab your attention way more than single-tone sirens.

  • Now this is what a siren system ambience should sound like. Thunderbolts and xT22s.

  • tbolts AND 3T22s?!

    lucky...

  • Yeah, Purdue is lucky.

  • the only sirens my entire county has are paste white 2001s

  • [flicks lighter]

  • Hearing this was beautifull. All of the different federal signals just made it sweet. Now if they got some modulators in there I think everything else would kick there butts. lol.

  • Federal Signal actually came out here a couple years ago with a modulator to demonstrate its capabilities. Purdue was looking at their options in the wake of the Virginia Tech incident. They decided that the current sirens we have grab people's attention more than the modulators. As far as the voice capabilities, well now apparently our bell tower does that.

  • That actually sucks. I think they should leave these ones of course but add like a modulator in there somewhere. The city would be known as the Federal Signal Ambience City

  • I was thinking they had a modulator somewhere

  • Lol they should've put a modulator in the bell tower that whoops the hour like clock chimes.

  • whenever a chevy commercial comes on i cover my ears and make the westminster chime sound and i also do when a dodge commercial comes on

  • That is wise of them VERY WISE hardly other counties see the new sirens and just buy them. In 20 years if they keep these sirens they will be put on the map for having the oldest siren system in the U.S.

  • I doubt they'd still work by then.

  • If the motors and the choppers were changed and repaired they would last FOEVER ;D.

  • Yeah, they would. Unfortunatley, the parts these sirens use are not being produced anymore because FS is a bunch of assholes who have no respect for classic sirens. Instead, they're focusing entirely on electronic bullshit like the 612. If they re-release the thunderbolt (or a similar siren) it should at least be electromechanical, like a dual tone 2001.

  • FS doesn't give a shit about older sirens and the EOWS 612 is no longer produced it was stopped being produced in the early 90's plus the EOWS isn't bullshit they were one of the best electronic sirens ever made next to the Master Blaster. Their planning on making a new thunderbolt, called the thunderbolt 130 butr sadly it electronic but I heard it sounds like the old one but on a speaker though but still it ain't the same as the old one.

  • and Eclipse's would be nice.

  • Thats awesome. I liked how the wind- up was at 0:18. BTW Cool video.

  • yea i love that wind up too!

  • That siren at :37 sounds like the one in war of the worlds (2004) or one of those shows from the weather channel when a tornado could hit dallas (It could happen tommarow) that show.

  • There are sirens all over Purdue. The one on top of Earhart used to wake me up every first Saturday... bloodied my scalp on the acoustic ceiling of Harrison Hall B615 the first time.

  • what kind do they have besides the 3t22s on the Purdue campus?

  • I'm no siren buff... couldn't tell you make and model... based on what I've seen on YouTube, 2t22? 3t22? Around the Lafayette/W. Laf. area, it's more like Hornets and whatnot. The sirens around campus were the Air Raid sirens when my dad was there--'69-'73.

  • 3 2T22's, 1 3T22 and an STH 10 are part of Purdue's system. The surrounding area has a lot of older 2001's, a few thunderbeams, and 2 t-bolts

  • i could hear a hi pitched tbolt before the 2t22 started up

  • I thougt that was a federal signal 2001.

it sounds just like the 2001 down the street

    from me.

  • its a tbolt, but there wuz a 2001 in da mix

  • its to hi piched to be a thunderbolt.

    so I don't think its a thunderbolt 1000.

  • 1000T with a high chopper setting...u could hear a 2001, but right after the 2001 started up, you hear a hi pitched 1000T....a tbolt 1000 almost sounds like an sth-10 or a T-128

  • but 1000Ts are 2 tone.

    2001s are single tone.

    I think a thunderbolt 1000 sounds like a 2001.

  • it does sound like a thunderbolt.

  • yea...the chopper level is on level 7...the highest setting...do a youtube search on "high pitch thunderbolt 1000T". The ones in Hawaii are high pitched.

  • HEY! I saw on NOAA today a Tornado Warning was issued for Tipp. County in Indiana around 7:30 EST; did the Purdue University sirens sound?

  • i could not tell you for sure, as i am currently home for the summer and not in the lafayette area. however, they probably did go off. the sirens are activated by the county and not purdue, so whenever there is a warning for the area of the county that purdue is in, purdue's sirens will sound.

  • I wonder if the sirens sounded in NYC on 9-1-1?

  • i wonder the same

  • Love the video! Sounds excellent with all those sirens singing together

  • how often do they test up there?

  • first Saturday of the month at 11am. This was during "Severe Weather Awareness Week". On one day during this week the entire state has two tornado drills at the same time, one in the morning/early afternoon and one in the evening. I filmed this during the morning test during severe weather awareness week.

  • @bmeiser all those together sound sort of like a P-50 6 toned.

  • wowzers!

  • what do you guys think the types of sirens are that wind up right after the t-bolt at the beginning. I hear 2 of them before the 2 sirens pictured start going off. I'm thinking they are the other 2T22's on campus?

  • I think I hear a 2001 and perhaps a 2t22.

  • Nice man.

    I'm loving that 2T22! (:

  • Awesome video! The xT22s sound cool! :)

  • I love how you can hear random sirens in the background in one area.

  • Excellent! it's the Purdue Siren Symphony, with "Concerto For Tornadoes," in F Sharp. ;-)

  • Nice harmony of the sirens! :)

  • Gotta love that sound.
