@ToadCharmer Thanks for the support. Much appreciated. BTW, anyone who puts fourth the time and effort to take on a job that is not so familiar to them should be respected and any advice should be constructive. Just sayn'. People like yourself toad, get that.
@twn5858 Anyone can do it. Just don't use canned air and stick your face in the cloud of brake dust the emerges. I got my masters last year to figure that one out.....lol ;)
i am a tech at honda and you suck what about the other sliding pin you did not grease up and how bout the slides you did not clean and not lube up if you are going post a vid like you know something make sure you know what the hell you are talking about and you do not have to spray the damm brake assembly with brake cleaner and what is fatal asbestos has not been used in pads since the 90's and plus you are harming thev environment using that damm brake clean outside you need to learn more
@vtec03 Wow! Look everyone. This is one of those dealership techs who are offended by do it yourselfers. You disgust me with your holier than thou attitude. I have been servicing my own Civic since day one and it is now at 225,000 miles with ZERO issue. Brakes have always functioned perfectly after my service. For a DIY, i am confident enough to share my experience. Please take your poor attitude and either shove it or use it in a more positive way via giving a FRIENDLY SUGGESTION. Jerk!
@big2000dave And dealers wonder why people are skeptical about taking their cars to be serviced. This is a basic brake job, not exactly rocket science. I, like you, refuse to be extorted for $250+
@vtec03 Only reason i decided to approve this comment is to prove my own point.... everyone here is likely a do it yourself-er. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you realize the consequences of lack of experience and are willing to learn from your efforts.
Hi Dave, I am in the middle of my 2000 civic brake job and the lower caliper bolt just spins and wont tork down. I noticed that when you took the capiliper pin out, its like its free floating. When I tork the rachet, that pin spins as well. Great video, thanks for your time. Any thoughts?
Why waste all that brake cleaner? I just blast the assembly with compressed air, (if i was outside while looking away with a mask on) then simply wipe the rotor down with a rag that I spray some brake cleaner on. Besides the back side of the rotor could use a wipe down and it will only be accessible once you take the caliper and pad off. Brake clean will eat through rubber so you don't want to be spraying it every where, it will eat the caliper piston seal boot and slider pin boots.
very informative, thanks for the video. couple quick questions for anyone. What if one of your caliper pins is completely stuck and won't come out? I'm currently doing brakes on my accord as we speak and I got 3 of the 4 caliper pins out no problem to grease, but one is just STUCK! Ive banged it with a hammer, banged the bracket, sprayed wd40 up in the boot. NO LUCK (cont)
there is a brake caliper compression tool you can get which I have found invaluable. It serves as a superior tool to the C clamp..as it will not slip, but I do LIKE the method of compression you employ as it seems really easy that way too
Your video is EXCELLENT and has reminded me of doing it correctly LOL as i have now made a list of bits to get to clean it all
@big2000dave (cont) Also, you were kind of vague on demonstrating the grease on the brake pads. Do you just put the grease on the back plate of the pad? Do you take the plate off and put it on the inner side that touches the pad?
I never took my cap off my brake cylinder resovoir, Havnet popped the hood yet, im afraid to look.
LAST QUESTION! bare with me! SO when I went to take my first caliper off originally, I accidently loosed the brake line bolt in the middle and some (cont)
(cont) of the fluid came out of that bolt, then fluid came out of the inner piston, a decent amount. Does this mean I HAVE to bleed my brakes now? Thanks
How about a tripod buddy?!!!!

@ToadCharmer Check your messages.....its been a long week and my eyes are playing tricks on me. That comment was more venting toward vtec.

@big2000dave Right on Dave. Mr vtec03 thinks changing break pads is rocket science. It's a simple 30 minute job. What a douche bag.
