It breaks my heart to hear about bullying. I don't know how bad it is everywhere but I can see similarities in the incidents in the US and over here in the UK. It's appalling. Teenage years are hard enough without someone making it worse. And using religion as an excuse is despicable. The religion of Christianity is one based on love. Luke 10:25-37 tells of Jesus himself preaching to people to love their neighbours and it says that EVERYONE is your neighbour.
Wow. I can't believe Christians feel so strongly about this out of all the things in their holy book. If homosexuality is a sin, doesn't the bible say EVERYONE sins? And if God can forgive all sins, gays can be Christian and go to heaven. And Romans 3:10 says that nobody is righteous...you are no better than anyone else - gay, straight, or otherwise. And even Jesus said, Let he who is free from sin cast the first stone. When you are as perfect as your creator, then you can pass judgement.
Being Gay is 1 of the newest ways to be "different", adding yet another variable to an already disparate pot of all manners of beliefs, values & so forth. There will be casualties. Things get complicated when they are not kept seperated. Calling it Marriage & not something else can trigger a shockwave of who knows what. Change, Identity crisis on both sides, confusion... what happends next?
The worst thing that bothers me about bullying is that most people in hischools etc. are like "oh, he/she doesn't even understand being bullied! It's really different from the other cases." I am a Christian and I have my beliefs about homosexuality. BUT if you really read the Bible you will see that the biggest message, in the 10 commandments and in Jesus' message is LOVE. Love your neighbour as yourself. Love everyone. I firmly believe that no one who can spew hate towards another human being has the right to call themselves a Christian.

Do you realize that in the SAME chapter that is says no homosexuality it talks about how it's ok to own slaves as long as they're from another country? Yes bullying is terrible and what happened to Tyler Clementi was disgusting and awful. However, the bullies didn’t kill him, he was killed by his own profound underlying sense of shame. What human being has escaped teasing and humiliation in their life? Ellen acts like bullying is some sort of new phenomenon, if anything's different now it's probably external factors like society, upbringing and social pressures but not the bullying.

Bullying, no matter, what the person is or does, is terrible and makes me wonder where we are as a nation with our level of ignorance. My spiritual and personal experience have prompted me to be a better person through tolerance and empathy, put the shoe on the other foot, and remember what a melting pot of a nation we really are. Do unto others as you would have done to you..

Yes bullying is terrible and what happened to Tyler Clementi was disgusting and awful. However, the bullies didn’t kill him, he was killed by his own profound underlying sense of shame. What human being has escaped teasing and humiliation in their life? Ellen acts like bullying is some sort of new phenomenon, if anything's different now it's probably external factors like society, upbringing and social pressures but not the bullying.

I have nothing but compassion for the trauma he's been through but it WAS the shame that killed him. Many kids don't have the correct parental guidance to stop them from being mean.
Our society introduces sexuality into childrens lives too early.
Young people, who are not emotionally ready to explore their sexuality can be pushed over the edge by equally emotionally immature taunters.

But I also understand that when she says "intolerance" she is targeting us who are Saved by Jesus. And when she says "people's minds will change" she means, society will say it's Okay...which is another attack on God and the Church. It will never be okay. It will always be wrong. We are growing spiritually..no longer confined by religious dogma and judgement. We cannot base our life on Mythological stories. We must stop judgement of others and work on being love. Many theologicians in universities around the world, including Harvard University, have divinity schools and many books have been written on the subject of the basis of faith in Jesus Christ. So belief in Jesus is far deeper that what's being "preached." Christianity is 2010 years old faith and supported by research.
