It's almost impossible to repair a weld on a lamination that thin. It loses heat too quickly. Pattern welded steel, if done correctly, will have no inclusions or occlusions present.
Thats normal I think, a good artist charges a lot for an original piece of work. You also have to include the fact that he's working with a lot of expensive metal and a lot of hours.
He can/does make them, but he makes them on request. The reason is it would cost a LOT of money. I think his big A2 steel blades run around $2-3K and the Damascus would be even more expensive. It's fantastic art, but the spring steel version's edge retention is plenty to be used as fighter, and unlike the more brittle A2 and Damascus you can use them for survival purposes as well.
Oh now these series of vids have just been beautiful, im going to be hoping we get to see the making of the handle once the blade's finished. I am loving this channel Fitzen!
That cougar is amazing. It looks freaking cast....

Can't remember where I saw it but in china they found a similar hammer that was made of wood and run by a waterwheel.
That rotary hammer is nice though.

I feel like a housewife watching As the World Turns. Can't wait to see what they are going to discover in the shop on the next episode.
