do you know what absolutly grates me? as a brit, a life long who fan AND a musical fan... that weird "british" accent whislt he's singing. we know there supposed to be in england but it sounds wrong....
@stevethepirate78 It wasn't just Cerveris though. I loved Tommy on broadway, but the one thing that bothered me about the entire cast were the exaggerated, over-the-top british accents. Even The Who themselves didn't sing with those accents!!
The Who's Tommy was by far one of my favorite musicals I ever saw on Broadway. It was amazing! The sets, lighting, and of course, music were unbelieveable. They need to bring it back as a revival.
Are all the songs supposed to be out of order? How the hell do you go from It a Boy to Pinball Wizard? And please tell me they don't have the actor playing Tommy singing The PBW. He supposed to be deaf dumb and blind ! The Movie was way more accurate to the story
Tommy sings a short reprise of Pinball Wizard in the second act, after he becomes aware and talking again. That's what you're seeing. The full Pinball Wizard is sung by Cousin Kevin and two Pinball lads.
Thanks for the clarification. I think Im so used to the motion picture version that I forget there are other versions. I always have the image of Elton John in the giant boots with the keyboard built into his pinball machine.
He's singing about Tommy because Kevin and his friends drag Tommy to pinball arcade, and they represent the teenagers would be watching Tommy play the game.
ah ok i have actually seen the stage version but it was a long time ago... i see, makes sence. altho i still like the original idea of there being seperate characters for their own songs x
For starters mus1cat, The Who's Tommy has been around alot longer than 1993. Pete Townshend wrote it during the 70s(I think) and it was turned into a movie, so in all honesty, Tommy is an old. You wouldn't say Rocky Horror isn't old, it was just on broadway in 2000, when it's been around since the 70s as well
This is the first musical I ever saw, my Uncle who is a fan of The Who took me to see the Broadway version when I was in sixth grade. I fell in love with it, I fell in love with theatre and shortly after The Who ranked as my second favorite band (close behind The Beatles).
They just had or getting ready to the 15th anniversary reunion concert of the original stage show with the complete original cast. I wish I could've seen it or see it.
Out of all the great old musicals, this is one that I hope they revive soon. I would really love to see this on stage.
Although I always loved The Who's Tommy, I wasn't eager to see it on Broadway cause the movie with Anne Margaret was sooooooo weird. But the B'way show was FABULOUS, especially the 'Pinball Wizard' scene which was, IMHO, the best part of the show. Wish they'd do it again.
With my local theatre group, i played ten year old tommy(: great show<3

Agreed. I like Michael Cerveris in general, but his accents are weird. He does the same strained accent in "Sweeney Todd."

its just so forced.... id rather them just sing naturally

It was written in the 60s. The Who performed it at Woodstock in 1969.

By far, one of the best shows I have ever seen on broadway. It was truly amazing to watch. I wish it was still running. Bring on a revival!

"Old" musicals? How old are you. This goes back to the 90's...as in 1990's. How is that old?
This was a good musical, it was a breath of fresh air on Broadway.
"Old" would be Oklahoma, anything prior to 1940.
I know what you mean but it sounds funny hearing you say it as being an old great musical.

does anyone remember the Tommy 0n Broadway
30th anniversary tour? I believe it was in 2000 but can't remember where on the east coast it was.

Are you referring to the Broadway show "The Who's Tommy" (this being the correct name it was billed under) of which this video music is from?
If you are, it doesn't go back 30 years. This show was at the St. James Theater in NYC opening in April '93.
Or do you mean, The Who on Broadway doing a tour?

I would give my right arm to go back in time and see this on Broadway. I saw a touring production in 98 and it sucked :(

I hate when they do a melody. It ruins the feel of the pieces.
