  • "when Eventide pays me"...LMAO...of course the "just kidding" is classic, nice demo Dave

  • Hey! on the maxon od9 is it worth the extra 50$ to get the pro+ model?

Also, say i have the tu-3 boss pedal which can power various other pedals, what is the cord called that i need to transfer the tu-3's power to other pedals?

    -Thanks

  • @Ladera1017 - I haven't tried the pro+. You're thinking of daisy chaining power from the tuner. Bad idea. It always produces hum.

  • three overdrives? Why not just use your volume/tone pots? Especially on the les paul...

  • @louisalive - OD pedals are set at unity, they're just for different flavors I like to use that vol and tone pots can't provide.

  • I always wear black socks too :)

  • @threeamax Those are gray though...

  • is there a reason you placed the 3 OD's in that order? do they sound better if/when you stack them?

  • @modelauk - no reason, I don't stack them.

  • How are you powering the two EVENTIDE boxes? Looks like you're coming off one source.

  • @jst601 - just their plugs, but there are a few power sources that can power them now.

  • @jst601 - there are many power supplies, including Eventide's own, that will power these now.

  • @jst601 Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Dude

  • me by the end of this ----> FUCK I NEED SOME METAL! sounds s!ck tho XD

  • Hey I have a question if you wouldn't mind answering it. Do you ever chain your overdrives? If so, any tips on using this to get a good tone? Whenever I do it I get very compressed tones and I can't seem to remedy this problem

  • @hillbillygenius72 - no, I usually have 1 on at a time. Just depends on the flavor I'm going for.

  • great

  • @DAVEWEINER hey Dave! i got a quick question for you. are you still using the Maxon cp101? because I'm looking for a good compressor pedal and I'm not sure if i should go with the Maxon cp101 or the barber tone press. I've heard good things about both but i cant decide. thanks in advance for your reply!

  • @spencerrr321 - yes, but most of the time i dont use a compressor on my board.

  • Hi Dave, nice setup! I really love your sounds, all of your videos, you've great talent! I will looking for your CD.

Funny feet in movement btw ^^

    Musically,

    Alex

  • I bet you've replaced that Holy Grail with an Eventide Space by now. Am I right or am I right?

  • @photogtrav - not yet, now using the Cathedral, I'm sure I'll pick up Space eventually though.

  • Really good video, thanks :)

Q: How do the OD & boost pedals sound when you use a driven/distorted channel on the amp? Do you use them in this situation or just stick with the amp sound?

  • @richsmells - depends on the amp but the pedals are usually just a hair above unity gain so they have minimal addition.

  • Sorry "any" not "Amy". Please excuse my typo.

  • Awesome rig setup, Dave. Hey Dave, have you tried the Vox Satchurator. If you have Amy experience with it, I would love your input on it.

  • @DAVEWEINER what does a compressor do. im a beginner and i really need help

  • @DReidGuitars it kinda brings all the sound to the same level. great for things like country chicken picking

  • @DReidGuitars A compressor narrows the frequency range of the strings, Usaually used only for clean tones, it'll sustain the strings longer and give them that snap sound you hear some guitarists have. MXR Dyna Comp is what I use and it is great but it is noisy. Great for clean soloing

  • sweet setup !

  • @xGrinder07x - Regular Holy Grail had some issues. holy grail plus sounded better. Now I'm using the Cathedral.

  • @xGrinder07x - no, that's an old limited edition 535Q

  • Anyone else notice he said "G.I.T."? Guitar Institute of Technology?

  • @fluff191 - yessir

  • who built your board?

  • @TacooGrill - Anvil Case Co. Got it from Tour Supply Inc

  • Hey Dave do you use gate when playing live..???

  • @MassimoPetrucci - only if the house power is extremely noisy. Otherwise, I never use gates.

  • Hi Dave, great vid! Got a question, how do you patch your 2 eventides together? I have the same 2 aand want to run them in a chain into the loop.

    Thanks

  • Hey Dave, can you tell me how do you use the dunlop 535q? u send it by the fx loop? or is in the signal chain? because that wah isn`t true bypass , i would like to know how do you use it , i`m worried cause i have the same wah and i`n not sure if i can use it in the signal chain or not ..

  • Do you ever stack overdrives?

  • Are you using the camera mic when you recording? A bit overdrive in my speakers ;-)

  • Are you using the camera mic when you recording? A bit overdrive in my speakers ;-)

  • Dave, Why aren't you running your pedals thru an RJM rg16 or effects gizmo and using a Master Mind to control them?

    P.S Nice socks!

  • what was the effect you did right after the rotary? and are you using all pre-sets on the two top multi-pedals?

  • how do you balance the volume of clean to distortion? when I kick on my distortion (that I thought had the same volume as the clean) it seems to disappear when playing with a full band.

  • why do you think 6 strings sound and play better than 7 strings by the way?

  • great video!! I wish everyone on youtube showing off their pedal boards would do the same lick over and over with the different pedals like you did. very helpful. very smart. I almost have party piece down btw, what a great song!! thanks again dave. tom a fan in omaha ne usa

  • Sorry but I prefered the stock 808..Good demo though! :)

  • hi dave ! why are you using the timefactor before the modfactor ? ... and are you using the amp loop for the timefactor, modfactor and reverb ???

  • Regarding your overdrive pedals, do you prefer them to the overdrive channel of your amp (which is what?)? I've always tended to my amp's overdrive (Hughes & Kettner Duotone) and use the effects loop for delay/pitch fx, because the amp overdrive sounds better to me than any pedal I've tried.

  • Have you tried the Toadworks Texas Flood OD?

  • hey dave awesome pedal review! could you possibly tell me the difference between the keeley modded 808 and the keeley modded ts9 mod plus?

  • dave, can i come to your house and meet vai please?

  • really nice board

  • Are Eventides in loop effects??

  • Hey Dave, you said previously you use mainly your amps overdrive and use your OD pedals to push....doesn't your amp's overdrive distort your reverb from the holy grail plus though?

  • Hey Dave, question..when recording do you play clean and add effects in the mix or do you record with effects from your board?

  • @FlaGuy66 - i add fx during mix unless it's a specific fx i need to play through on the way in like wah or whammy.

  • nice job putting your compressor in the front of everything.

  • Hey Dave, I noticed you were a fan of Robert Keeley's modded pedals and I was wondering, do you prefer the Maxon Compressor to the Keeley Compressor or have you not had the opportunity to try one?

  • @Botdra I have had both of the pedals. I liked the Maxon better, for my style. I like compressors that don't shift your guitar tone into something else. The Maxon is extremely transparent and VERY quite. I like very very subtle compression but the maxon was a wee bit to much. Also it didn't have fast enough release like I like it. The Diamond Compressor is very good, i have tried that one! But I would buy the expensive Finnish made Mad professor Green compressor.

  • @knikk77 Awesome, thank so much for this great help. Any chance I could ask you some more questions over message?

  • Sure! :-)

  • how do you like the xotic pedals. BB and AC compared to the ones you use here???

  • Hey Dave, happy newyear. I was wandering: Where in the signalchain would you put somrthing like a Boss eq pedal or a boost pedal? How does these types of pedals collide with dist or od pedals? Thanks for all the years of rotw and for all your words of wisdom. Keep Rock Alive. Hans G

  • @hansgrock EQ: Post drive pedals, but pre effects. BOOST: depends, if you want more drive for solos then put it pre drive pedals. but if you want just higher volume put it last in your chain (so you don't klip the signal going into the effects).

  • Thanks man. Very usefull.

    Keep Rock Alive

    Hans G

  • Thinking again, maybe the eq at the end of the signal chain (before the "Volume" booster). This is because EQ pedals have booster in them too, that can maybe be too much and clip the signal going into effects pedals. But optimally I would have put it pre effects if you are carefull of the db-boost. Example: I want the delay-pedal to echo the eq'd signal, not the eq pedal to eq the echo signals.

  • Hey Dave, you haven't been playing your 7 strings in a while. Do you still play them or are you totally switching to 6 string guitars exclusively? I like your other guitars (LP, Strat, etc), but the 7's have always been your bread and butter. Just wondering. Love that wah!

  • I'll play 7s when needed, but 99% of the time will be on 6s. They just play and sound better.

  • G'Day From Australia!

Can you use two effects at once with the eventide modfactor? e.g. could I have the phaser and the chorus running at the same time?

  • hey dave, what do you think about the fulltone ocd's compared to that maxon overdrive that you mainly use?

  • Fulltone makes great stuff, I prefer the VOP9 over anything he makes though.

  • Is it just me or this there some crunchiness when you turn on the Compressor? Is that just the camera mic, is that supposed to happen?

  • Hey Dave. Where did you get that pedal board?

  • Tour Supply Inc.

  • I liked this a lot--informative. Do you control volume with the knobs on the guitar?

  • for when you wanna talk to aliens! lol nice!. . those eventide pedals sound great! thanks!

  • what camera did you use for recording?

  • yeah what camera you using Dave?

  • Canon HV20

  • I use a TS9 infront of my amp and I'm sick of its bass vampirism. I don't know if I should get it moded or find another overdrive. Peace :)

  • @lozleigh Buy a Tonefreak Abunai 2. Best overdrive pedal out there. Other than that the Digitech (yes.. I know... cheapo, but I think it is one of the best boosters out there). The Digitech has seperate bass and treble. Good pedal.

  • @knikk77 Digitech Bad Monkey that is... :-)

  • Fuck the pedals what about those socks and that killer plush shag carpet.

  • Perhaps Santa will bring you some new socks Dave ;-)

  • Tube Screamer + nearly every good amp = yummy goodness

  • Cool vid.. thanks 4 takin your time 2 shoot these videos..... Greatly appreciated.. tks

  • I always love your videos, and so, the time you take to respond people.

I hope one day you release a DVD with seasons and all, your videos really help me as guitarist and also, to record myself.

    Just one word: Amazing.

Yo´re a complete guitarist in all aspects.

  • Hey DW..you ever thought about hooking up with the guys at TrueFire and producing a soild Rock teaching CD/DVD Trey Alexander has worked with these guys...Sorry for going OT..

  • Thanks for the post man...cool

    :D

  • Along with torr71 - no Compressor when you're not playing clean?

  • I usually dont leave the comp on all the time.. depends what sound I need.

  • right on. thx.

  • Dave - from someone who loves "riff of the week" and who has been working to build the right pedal board - this one was fing huge man - thx!

  • Thanks for taking the Time...Was the Compressor on the whole time ?...

    Nice sockes....

  • Socks...s_o_c_k_s...socks

  • No.

  • Hey Dave, ever looked into the TC Electronic NovaDrive? I'm thinking of either the VOP-9 after seeing your video review, or the novadrive just because it's analog but with 2 "sides" and 18 saveable presets. Thanks

  • I'v never tried that one.

  • Great bonus video DW.

    Many thanks again.

  • dave you're the man. thanks for doing these things

  • Dave, this is my favorite video you have done so far..

    thanks for posting it !

mabey go over your amp(s) and switching,, that would be a great next vid ! btw..great noodeling as well !

  • Hey Dave, what are your musical influences?

  • I hear some King's X, type riffs.

    (one of my fav's also)

  • Tom Scholtz, Scott Henderson, Robben Ford to name a few

  • dave what's your amp?

  • Fryette Ultralead.

  • @Deusex63: He mentioned the Fryette Ultralead in case you missed it. It said it pretty quick - easy to miss.

    Cheers.

  • that is such a nice overdrive sound

  • Thank you for taking the time to shoot all these videos.

    Happy Holidays!

  • btw how does someone go over 10 minutes?? i thought that was the limit?

  • I are specials.

  • Not sure it is anymore, elsewhise you can be a youtube partner, maybe there's more ways of doing it, not sure

  • Different categories of channel type can have larger time limits. Directors, for example, have no ten minute limit (though I'm not sure what the limit is exactly).

  • Nice sounds dude!

We have the same socks....we should jam :D

  • Dave, what's your favorite effect?

  • sure. daveweiner . com / lessons

  • amazing, amazing sounds!

  • Dave do you have your delay in the effects loop,And your od's in front of the amp???

  • yes.

  • Thanks dave!

  • God I love the sound of that Wah pedal at the start

  • dave

i think u should just use your fave maxon..sounds amazing.i dont like the white one at all

also why not just use an amp and no od pedal..u see why all tube to just put solid state in front?..also i tried orange tiny terror with and without tube screamer adjusting amp gain and the straight amp won hands down.the od pedal makes it sound like simulation.clearly if u malmsteen u have to as he insists on using strat plus low gain marshall to get heavy sound but thats malmsteen for you...lol

  • flavor.

  • Nice amount of options, but how do you control it?? Too much tap dancing? Ain't you using the RJM any more?

  • this is a pedal-only setup for jamming/sessions. Not a touring rig. For touring, if i need multi-function switching, yes I use RJM gear.

  • I've seen presentations with laser pointers, stick pointers, finger pointing... but nothing tops the Dave Weiner Right Foot Precision Black Sock Pointer for a fine presentation. Sweet toys/tools Dave!

  • lol

  • it's a gift.

  • haha funny

  • dave you need to add the Ts808HW...considering it is the only one you don't have here!!

  • Amazing stuff Dave! 17.04 , the gates of heaven opened :P

  • Dave, here's my problem. Switching between the Strat and Les Paul it seems I need to change all the effect settings...at least the overdrive and distortion settings, to compensate for the pickup differences. How do you deal with this?

  • good question!

  • I've never had to do that.

  • Nice sounds but your video level was just a but to high and its causing a bit of distortion.

  • yeah, i hurried through the compression of the vid. Didn't listen back before posting. Oh well.

  • Awesome Dave, somn ive been looking forward to hear...

Btw though Dave, what do u do when u need a solo boosts cos i see that ur overdrives are set to a similar level? do u normally always leave ur compressor on? Thx for the great ROTW :)

  • all "solo" pedals are just a touch above what the amp is giving me. 90% sound from amp, 10% from pedal.

  • Anyway... it would be interesting to hear it with one of your sevenstrings :-)

  • It would sound the same unless i played all low notes.

  • the reverse on 13:00 is making those crazy ring mod sounds, because it's very short and reverse delays just act like that with the time almost at minimum :-)

    cool sounds, Dave

    take care

  • LOL Dave Weiner without shoes on.

  • Hi, Dave

Have you tested the Maxon OD9 Pro Plus?

  • not yet.

  • im still at the start of the video. BUT damnz. Thanks =]

  • Great demo of your sounds there Dave :)
