  • "But in fact this is just a powerful illusion -- the slope is actually slightly downhill, but the shape of the surrounding landscape and mountainous horizon obscure our usual reference points. The hill can be found 30km from the historic capital of Leh along the Leh-Kargil-Baltic highway."

  • Its an illusion that it is going uphill. It looks uphill because of the nature of that terrain.

  • well the video doesnt do justice to the amazing place that it is. you have to be there toexperience the phenomenon to its full extent.

  • Guys , I have been here and surely this place is downhill and if the keys are taken out of the car , even then it keeps moving approx at 20 kms/hr ... And this is due to the magnetic field in this area ...This is not something that can be found only here,so u can look out for it as well ...

  • Well it s the same as "lauriole" in France. It's an optical illusion.

  • Come on. It even looks downhill in the video.

    /sigh

  • Funny, I can hear the engine.

  • this proves nothing...

  • pfffffff, this video is just rediculous.

  • A better visual would be two weights on strings side by side, one made of plastic, the other of iron. If the hill is magnetic, the two weights would hang at visibly different angles.

  • is it me, or does it look downhill?

  • well i don't if its an illusion, but the height is 14,000 feet above sea level.

so is that down hill or up hill? what do you think?

  • ...don't idle cars go forward automatically anyways? If they really wanted to show that the mountain is that magnetic they would've just tossed a magnet into the air and it would've gone flying towards the mountain....

  • @xzc426 any kind of magnetic force (including gravitational) depends on the mass of 2 bodies involved and is so meagre that if the earth's mass would not have been what it is, we wud hav been flying all around.

so, when we talk about a magnetic hill and a magnet, the force would be so negligible that the magnet won't move at all. brush up your lessons on physics

  • @fmsite Yeah, I do need to brush up on physics. I've only taken up to physics III and gravitational/magnetic force was my weakest. Either way, it would be more convincing if they turned off the engine.

  • Idling is where you don't apply the accelerator. When a car is put into neutral the gear is disengaged therefore the accelerator won't move the car, the engine will only rev. If you left a manual car to idle in gear it would stall and shut off, but if you left an automatic in Drive, yes it would move forwards.

  • @xzc426 In gear they do. Yeah this would be a more believable video IF THEY'D SWITCHED THE FUCKING CAR OFF. Dumbasses.

  • @olihill101 I actually did some research and this hill is an optical illusion. They're actually going down hill.

  • @xzc426

Automatics will pull forward slowly in D, but manual cars won't move if they are in Neutral.

  • @TechSalvager Automatics don't move (on a flat surface) if they're in neutral also. I would imagine manual cars also move forward in drive don't they? I've never driven manual :/

  • @xzc426 - Most people drive MANUALs in INDIA and they do not automatically go forward. Hope that answers your question.

  • What law of gravity is being defied? Don't idling cars drift downhill everywhere?

  • @strathmeyer the gravity pulls everything down which means that any idle car on a downhill road will start moving down on its own.

Here, on this spot (30 km from Leh), the road goes upwards and if the car is left idle, it still moves ahead. It is said to be caused due to the magnetic force of the Grand Hill on the front.

  • No, that doesn't make any sense. Why does the car need to be idle? The vehicle in the video is clearly rolling downhill, and is indistinguishable from somebody driving their car downhill.

  • the road goes downwards, quite clearly actually. there are dozens of places like this in the world, the surroundings act as an optical illusion making it look like the road slopes upwards.

  • @thesurgeon that observation is interesting and the road moving uphill might be just an optical illusion. I suppose, I would like to measure that scientifically. One can measure the altitude at two ends of road or measure the magnetic pull at that spot otherwise there is no confirmation whether the road is uphill or downhill

  • actually the hill is magnetic. it's not caused by anything else, it contains magnet.

    just that it's rare doesn't mean it's fake :p

  • @thesurgeon actually the road does go upwards, i've been there. but still, i think the point is, don't idle cars just go forwards anyway?

  • lame

  • that home of Muslim gin in near Mekkah, it will magnetic but friendly.. if in sea, bermuda triangle, that unfriendly that many gins.. not muslims yet !

  • crazy its that windy in ladakh? wow

  • its not cause of wind, its a Magnetic Hill on Leh-Nimu Road in Ladhakh, India where the Phenomenon that defies the Law of Gravity
