Wait a sec. The civil right's act wasn't passed with out the republican party. The civil rights act was being being blocked at the time by the southern democrats (know then as the "Dixie-crats"). That legislation would have never been passed without the republican party. Also, Sen. Rob Byrd (D-WV) is a former klans-man.

The name is the same, but the Republican Party of 1980, or 2009, has nothing to do with the Republican Party of 1950, or 1850.

This move by the RNC will backfire horribly because it is so arrogantly patronizing. Michael Steele will have the same affect on black voters as Justice Clarence Thomas: a deep, unending resentment. On white voters the same: a deep resentment (toward party leaders). The vast majority of blacks resent Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton because the media crowned them as voices of our commnity when they are not. In the same way Michael Steele's career will be forever impacted by this pathetic move.

Wallace, who didn't want blacks in the collages was democrat. Robert Byrd was a ex-Klan member, he was democrat.
