Realistically, it will probably pass. Some European and African countries (I'd say most of Africa) will follow suit. Then, within 30 seconds hackers are going to make it redundant, and everyone (including China) will have free internet, but mostly due to apathy of "legal" regulations. These laws will still be in place but go unpunished, and in a few years it will be overthrown as a symbol, instead of anything useful.

@Staz222 no, it doesn't. if a country blocks a site and the domain is registered to that country it is blocked to anyone that trys to type that domain regardless of which country you are trying to access it from. the only way to stop this problem is to type loopholes or much simpler to prevent the legistration from passing outright

@JJJessieJames If you visit American-hosted websites like Youtube, probably. The bill states that all domestic sites have to be policed for "pirated" material, and the offending material must be removed or the site itself will be shut down. Since the bills definition for piracy is insanely broad, a lot of videos would be affected. But as for sites that are hosted within your own country or countries that aren't China or the US, I wouldn't worry about it much unless they get ideas like this.

Then, within a few days, millions and millions of YouTube users will become aware that GO DADDY actively supports SOPA, and that they should move their website hosting to another ISP as soon as possible!!!!

@tryinglockout I'm Canadian too... Things can't go well for us, since it means the US can block American citizens from viewing Canadian web pages. That means there will be a huge drop in ad revenue. Just google "canada sopa" and you'll find a lot more info.

Realistically, it will probably pass. Some European and African countries (I'd say most of Africa) will follow suit. Then, within 30 seconds hackers are going to make it redundant, and everyone (including China) will have free internet, but mostly due to apathy of "legal" regulations. These laws will still be in place but go unpunished, and in a few years it will be overthrown as a symbol, instead of anything useful.
Meanwhile, protests will go on and alternate forms of communication come about.

@Staz222 no, it doesn't. if a country blocks a site and the domain is registered to that country it is blocked to anyone that trys to type that domain regardless of which country you are trying to access it from. the only way to stop this problem is to type loopholes or much simpler to prevent the legistration from passing outright

@JJJessieJames If you visit American-hosted websites like Youtube, probably. The bill states that all domestic sites have to be policed for "pirated" material, and the offending material must be removed or the site itself will be shut down. Since the bills definition for piracy is insanely broad, a lot of videos would be affected. But as for sites that are hosted within your own country or countries that aren't China or the US, I wouldn't worry about it much unless they get ideas like this.
