It is hard to win against contestants who have a large fanbase- Both Davids had fans that filled big football stadiums. They also have very closeknit families which the voting public ,fortunately or unfortunately takes into consideration . Ruben Studdard won because he had a huge fanbase in the Gospel section of the music industry - When Syesha went home , sadly, only a few fans came to greet her. This performance was her best and I hope she capitalizes on it because it shouts Broadway !
