Linkous is incredible. Anyone could dismiss this music as depressing and stop listening, but that'd be such a waste - it's really calming, beautiful music which he put a lot of heart into. RIP Mark. Thanks for leaving lots of great music to remember you by.

I'm glad people identify with Mark's music, and of course, each does it in his or her own way. I think the depression and darkness talk is taking overhand, though. I mean, it's just not what I derive from this music. Sometimes, when something is slow and reflective, immediately people say "depressing" or "dark". There's some of that for sure, but I hear, in equal measure, beauty and longing in this, also.
If you are depressed, and an ex cigarette smoker, try smoking a pipe. With a pipe , you do not inhale, you get some nicotine, but the tobacco is much more mellow. It doesn't stink like cigarettes, it's worth a try. It is hard to give up cigarettes, you need the feel good connection of the brain, the pipe tobacco reconnects this dopamine connection without having to inhale into the lungs like cigarretes.
To anyone suffering from depression - go to the fucking doctor. I did. The drugs literally saved my life. I stayed on them for about nine months - now I'm ok.

Mark's suicide was one of the most shocking and saddest things to happen last year. I don't judge why he did it because I didn't know him on that kind of level. Some people struggle with their demons and ultimately decide that it's not worth fighting anymore. It's a sad fate for someone who was so musically talented, but at the same time I am very grateful for the music that he has left behind.
I watched a documentary on his life as a local musician in Virginia and it was amazing. I've never seen or even spoken to such a real person before. Even though I never met him in person his music speaks to me like a thousand conversations. Thank you for the inspiration, Mark.

@urbanminer3 HEY. this guy had a tortured life....he saw himself as a monsterr when he was an incredible man. have pitty on mark soul. every life is a pile of good things and a pile of bad things. and for marks poor poor life, the bad pile was far bigger than the good. so shut up when you think he's selfish. cuz it was remaks like that that led him to killing himself.

absolutely....sad and beautiful....tragic and exhilarating...but why Mark? Just don't get it. You left us gifts and now we get to open them without you around. Just thank you....the last time I felt this sad was when June and Johnny died.

sometimes it all hurts too much. depression is an illness that is just as important as cancer. suicide takes too many wonderful people. i am sorry that he never found the help that he needed to overcome. RIP :(

Listening to Mark's music today, I am sad but it doesn't make me feel depressed. His music was and is still just so real, pure and beautiful. He was such a positive force in so many people's lives and will be for many many years. A prince of an artist. I hope he found peace he has helped so many people find and make their own peace. His music was just too genuine not to be believed. God bless you Mark. We will miss you. There is just so much love and hope in this music.
